Does the Holy Spirit convict the born again believer of sin?

No I understand 1 John 1:9 and I also understand what legalism is sir. I know because I have been members of legalistic baptist churches. I am blocking you now and you should be ashamed of yourself for not rightly dividing the Bible correctly. Accusing someone who is no longer guilty of sin is an abomination.

1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I wouldn't use the word convict, and I would think our own heart would condemn us if we didn't confess, ask for forgiveness, that fellowship be restored.

We aren't condemned to hell, but I wouldn't tempt the devil.

Plus, our first love would keep us from wanting to sin, and more apt to strive against temptation.

So so keep your first love burning hot.

You seem to be confusing several issues here.

When you as a Christian read the Bible and are convicted of a particular sin, who do you think convicted you? Was it not the Word of God working hand in-hand with the Holy Spirit? The false doctrine is that Christians are no longer accountable for their sins and do not need to confess and repent of their sins daily (if that be the case).

Please note carefully what is stated in Hebrew 4:12,13 WHICH IS ADDRESSED TO CHRISTIANS:

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

So when a Christian reads the Bible as God's Word to himself personally, the Word of God acts as a sword or a scalpel and pierces us to the very depths of our souls. And even while that is happening the Holy Spirit -- God the Holy Spirit -- sees our souls as naked and open before Him. We cannot hide from God, nor can we deceive Him about our transgressions. So if we are honest with ourselves and before God, we will (1) recognize our sin, (2) confess our sin, (3) repent of our sin, and (4) have our fellowship restored with God. This is exactly what is taught in 1 John 1:5-2:4:

5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Romans 6 makes it clear that a born again believer is dead to sin and alive to God. I have permanent good fellowship with God at 100 percent.
 
My advice to the people reading the post is to be teachable at all ages or else you are going to have a hard time growing in the Bible.

If you want the truth, there is no need to block the truth or assume that Christians do not need to deal with sin in their lives. Sanctification is positional but also progressive, and if someone is teaching otherwise he is a liar.

I know people are going to have different beliefs but it is another to make false accusations out of pure ignorance. Those people I will not go farther in to discussing the Bible with them. We all need to use the word of God and cast down our own ignorance. So we can grow in the scriptures or else we will be blind.

Well what you believe is sound doctrine is most likely not sound doctrine to someone else and can result in being your opinion more than actual sound doctrine. The truth is pure grace has set me free from legalism because I learned my identity in Christ.

You're a sinner. You've wrested 1 John 1:9 out of context abusing Scripture and ignoring 2 Timothy 2:15. You should confess that win of yours to God.

By the way, as you are leaving to block me, Paul referred to himself as a sinner. In present tense. Even as the foremost. 1 Timothy 1:15.

More confused thinking. Looks like you've been snared by the Hyper-Grace crowd (which is false doctrine). And you are prepared to ask others to be teachable, while rejecting Scripture that exposes your fallacies. That is sad indeed.
 
When the Bible talks about the "world" it is talking the people of this world that are not his children. The people that are worshipping idols or nothing at all. They that are too wrapped up in the pleasures and worries of this world. If you are saved you are God's children and Jesus has washed your sins away. Of coarse we all sin because we are only human so we must try our best not to and ask for forgiveness when we do. God Bless.
 
1Pe 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

1Pe 4:2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.




 
Isn't it funny how the OP calls others sinners yet when he is called one it is blasphemy or an abomination? Lol!

Then as he calls others sinners by implication he states he is 100% good with God for all times in permanent good fellowship, no confession or conviction for sins. Ever. Even for his abuse of Scripture and slander of others.

I've heard others say the same thing but on a forum that doesn't proclaim it to be a Christian site, but is biblical based.

I don't understand the reasoning.
 
Act 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

Act 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Joseph, you used verse 31 to base your belief on too, so what exactly does judge the world in righteousness mean to you?

Frankly I myself do not know.

 
Actually, the difference is this, When you give your whole heart to God and receive the holy spirit you realize that everything written in the Bible is true and you WANT to be the best person you can be and God knows your heart. Still ask for forgiveness as often as you feel is appropriate. Walking with Jesus is not always easy but it is always worth it. God Bless.
