Quote: PeterJens
"If Christ had backed off" we would not be here. In His sacrifice we now have life and a hope
a future and salvation."
After Jesus of Nazareth was baptize by John, He went in to the wilderness for 40 day's and 40 Night's, (Proving that He did not eat both day and Night); and then to be tempted by the devil and thereby secure His Credentials as the Messiah as foretold by Prophets of old.
And to ask the question; what if Jesus failed His wilderness experience that was commissioned by God and the Holy Spirit, and then Jesus turns rock's into bread because He became hungry, well that is a very foolish thing to question, because for one Jesus is God and you diminish who he is just by insinuating that God could fail, foolish thought.
If Christ had, "Backed off" is a foolish notion with long term harmful effects.
TT - so my friend, you do not understand why Jesus shared the choice before Him.
Peter was rebuked for saying He was not going to die.
Jesus asked His friends to stay with Him in the garden, to empathise with the pain and
trouble this was all going to be. The gospel writer describes him thus
Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”
Matt 26:39-42
To die for us was a choice, it cost Jesus the most, a place He did not want to go.
In knowing this price and this struggle, we know even in God, love drove Him on.
It was not easy, or simple, or inevitable.
If you knew communion and empathy you would know how important it is to feel
anothers struggles to get an understanding of the balance in their life.
God wants us to know and understand His heart.
So when you say this is "foolish thought" that you are calling God foolish.
That is neither wise nor mature.
