Just like all my misc posts this is not important. My card game Elemental-Z is going to brought to daishocon in the wisconsin dell
Its nothing offical like at gencon but I get more takers if I do it unoffical
 
Takers as in people who will play my card game. Daisho con is an anime/gaming convention. I went to it last year and the year before me and my friends get a pricy room and stay at the hotel its at.

Trying to understand, but I'm not a gamer anymore. And even when I was, I didn't understand a thing about how they work. (Still don't. lol)

Are you saying your game is big enough in gaming that a gaming convention is setting you up to bring it and demonstrate? Or that someone is interested in buying it from you?

I wish my game was that big. Ive tried demonstrating at a con but sense no one knew what the game was no one signed up to play so instead I just go up to random people and ask if they want to play. I generally get a few people who are interested but nothing has ever come of it yet. but im persistant if anything lol

How does this work? Like I know how getting a novel published works, but how does getting a game on the market work?

Seems to me, it would be similar. You have to approach people who understand it to see if they're interested. We (word) writers do that through querying agents (if we're too dumb to know how publishing works in general, like me lol) or publisher to get them interested in the book. And we have to persuade them in that query letter to get excited enough to want to represent it/publish it.

But how does it work when you create a game?

well I think it works like publishing. my cards are actually based on a book series im writting. Ive been wanting to get the books published but do to finaces Im falling short. I just need someone to get behind it someone with some influence in the gaming industry

Okay. How do you find them?

Because I'm thinking going to a gaming show is a lot like going to a book fair. If I go to a book fair, I'm looking to find books already published. And I doubt a publisher or agent would go to one, unless they really like to read too, because that's not where they get their bread and butter. Where do you find people looking to buy games? Or, where do you go to find a capital venturist? (Someone willing to front the money. Might have picked the wrong words. lol)
 
well gaming conventions are a good tool for that. As for the specifics Im not to sure on that but I could research it. However id like to publish my books before I commit to anything with my game. I rather have people know the characters first
 
Probably a silly question, because I know so little about the gaming world, but if you don't know the best way to get your game found, than how do you know a convention helps?

I've heard of authors who got very big money for their stories after posting their stories on their blogs, but I also know that's like becoming an actor in Hollywood by going into a Hollywood diner and ordering a soda. It happens, but it's not the typical way to do it. And because of that, I haven't done the research to figure out how to post my story on my blog. (I can't figure out how you go from beginning to end, since blogs usually go from end to beginning. lol)
 
well a convention is better then sitting around doing nothing with it even if it helps very little at least it gets the word out

The words out that I have a book I'm trying to get published. (I'm a natural marketer. lol) As for wasting time? I spent it researching how to get it published.

And in doing that I met a lot of people who thought all they had to do was tell publisher they had great books. Now they're learning how to really get them published.

One thing I think we have in common, although we picked completely different avenues on our artistic choices -- we only have one chance to make a good impression.

If this manuscript doesn't sell the first time I ask agents to represent it, there is no second time. If I'm going to keep trying to sell my book, it will have to be a second book. (And, in my case, this is it. THIS is the story I want published. The only second book is the second in this hepatlogy. So, it's this book or nothing.)

So, if this is the game you want to sell, don't waste time. Learn how to sell it.
 
if it's for Jesus, let Him sell for you...of course do your homework, but let Him lead,
for that's what He does, IF we allow Him...hard lessons learned here,:eek::), for the 'two of us'...
when we follow Him, He will teach us how to come-out ahead;
firstly on The Spiritual' side of things, and then, in the 'fallen-world' that we live-in...
when we put our Creator' First, as best we can at our given times, then 'peace and joy and
contentment-hope-faith-charity', will come and become a constant part of our everyday lives...
