It seems that there are a plethora of threads talking about how the person you intend to marry has to be on fire for God, loving, caring, patient, respect you as a person, etc, but there are never any threads about you.

So is the idea here that we are all going to marry awesome people and in return they get stuck with us?

Maybe instead of focusing on how awesome one's spouse has to be, one could say "Would I want to marry me?" If the answer is no, I would stop worrying about finding a spouse and start worrying about working on yourself in order to make yourself a person worth marrying.

I know personally that I would not want to marry me as I am now, so I am not going to worry about finding a spouse at the moment.

A better question would be:

Are you willing to improve, and are you good enough, that a spouse can improve you?

I think this is my case...

I am nowhere perfect, I have a couple of flaws, but I believe that a spouse, would help me overcome these flaws.

And I, intended to improve my women, no matter how much she needs to be better, if she is at least willing to follow God, and willing to follow me, I will do my best to help.

Agreed. We need to work out our own stuff before we even think of other people. I would marry me, but I'm also content about being single because I have a great life and a wonderful relationship with God.

You made me think of a cute joke. It's called the RED BUTTON. (randomly selected names. none of this is biblical)

lil-rush, speeder, and dino all die and go to heaven. they meet St. Peter at the pearly gates and are warmly welcomed inside, "you can do whatever you like, but do NOT step on any red buttons."

the three friends go along their separate ways and plan to meet for lunch the next day.

at lunch, speeder and dino are waiting for lil-rush when she walks in with this hideous guy on her side. he's a sore to see, really. speeder chokes on his salad at the sight of him. dino asks "how in heaven did you get this guy?"
she replies, "well, i stepped on a red button"

they make plans for the next day and this time speeder is late. he walks in with a girl on his side more hideous than lil-rush's guy, and that was hard to beat. he cuts them off before they could ask and says, "yeah yeah i know. red button."

and then the next day dino is late for lunch. when he finally shows up, he's got a beautiful woman on his side. she is so drop-dead gorgeous that speeder dies and has to be resurrected. when the shock wears down, they ask how he got such a girl and then she says, "well, i stepped on a red button.."

I was once a person who had incredibly high standards for my future spouse...

Things didn't exactly work out like I expected them to. I envisioned a peaceful home, no yelling, we would be able to talk EVERYTHING over without a fight because we both would love God and love each other and treat each other with respect at all times.

Then reality sunk in, and I feel a little bit sorry for people who believe in all that fairytale nonsense because it just isn't reality.

My marriage is successful because over the last few years my husband and I have learned to FIGHT FAIR, WALK AWAY, YELL WITHOUT NAME CALLING (although swear words still get thrown in once in awhile) SUCK IT UP and GIVE IN (with or without pouting.) We both love God and love each other, but the fairytale just hasn't happened yet.

I think we could all use a better view of ourselves...........Let's face it, we all have our "stuff" there isn't one on the planet that doesn't........But on a more encouraging note, The LORD of GLORY has ' MARRIED ' all of us, warts and all........Now my prayer is that all those on this thread, and even those who didn't say anything, but only read it maybe, will recieve HIS eyes..............This way we can all see the true everlasting beauty each one of us has and is........

I think then, we would be more inclined to marry,(those that want to...) because our standards are so high. So high, GOD HIMSELF paid the very best HE had to pay to win you back to HIMSELF...................That's a high standard we can all live with.

The most awesome attribute of Perfection- (JESUS CHRIST) is that HE accepts imperfection.

Love on my Brothers and Sisters.....

If I was a girl, I'd marry me XD

Unless of course I was one of the girls that goes for the buff macho types. I'm not THAT, but I'm pretty much everything else XD And I don't see anything really undesirable in me, and I ask people for their honest opinions on it, and they either

#1- Don't tell me (or dont' see anything either, idk)
#2- Say I'm conceited for saying I don't see anything else wrong with me (GIANT circle logic there rofl)


*sigh* maybe in college I'll get more honest friends lol

Love is a choice you make every single day when you wake up in the morning and suddenly find you've been sleeping next to a hideous creature.

LOL i'm glad you're not married or you would be in trouble if she saw this. wouldn't have to worry about sleeping next to a "hideous creature" for a while lol

I am pretty perfect, and yet I'm not married! hahaha just kidding.. except for not being married!

I surely don't want a perfect wife. I would never be able to live up to that standard for her! I just want a woman that is beautiful in my eyes (and that doesn't mean perfect, everyone has their own opinions on what is attractive, I just have my own), funny, intelligent, and challenges me as a man. That isn't something so amazingly hard to ask for. I simply want a girl I am attracted to on all levels. All the petty things beyond that really don't matter much, because when you truly love someone, their imperfections start to become the things you love about them the most.
