I think a key element to everything you are feeling is this; Why do you want to believe? You say you've tried really hard but what was the motivation?

Also note that the Bible isn't just a book of morals. It's also a history book and not everything that happened was commanded by God.

Also also note that while there are some blind believers, a lot of us have reason and logic behind our faith as well. Heck, even Einstein believed there was a creator, he simply couldn't concede that human beings could have more value than a grain of salt to him.

At the end of the day, there is Jeremiah 29:13-14a. "You will see Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. (14a) I will be found by you,' declares the Lord....."

If you really want to believe, you can't just seek out the reasoning and logic and the ever popular "proof." Those things are important to any belief system, but Christianity is based on a relationship between God and people. Do you think you could get to know Julius Caesar better by reading about him or actually talking to him? My recommendation would be to, over the course of a month or so, take some time during your day in private and try talking to God out loud. Actually pursue the God behind the religion.

You remind me of a man who eventually did become a believer, he was recorded while having a conversation with Ray Comfort. Ray is an evangelist, who has made some powerful movies, and is really good about helping people think about faith. Not everyone is convinced, not every argument he has made is perfect, and I recommend not watching his homosexuality movie... even as a Christian it is beyond cringy. Lol.

People are tripping. Too many expect the lost to act like they're saved.

The OP is just doing his job, he's lost, how else is he going to act???

Or, perhaps some just think lost people need a band-aid, a little dab of triple antibiotic ointment, and that really, they are nice good people who love God, are seeking Him, behave well, and are full of courtesy and manners. LOL!!!!!!!!!! :D
Try and convince him,It's worth an extra dollar In your pocket.:)

Everything that you mentioned are all secondary issues when it come to your eternal soul. We are all sinners. You mentioned homosexuality it is sin because it is two people involved in sexual intercourse that are not married as God defines marriage.

But really we all fail at the first point of God's standard for your lives, the 10 commandments that are wrapped up in these two commandments.

Deuteronomy 6:5
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Leviticus 19:9-18
You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you.18 You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.”

Verified by Jesus in Matthew 22:35-40
And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.38 This is the great and first commandment.[SUB]39 [/SUB]And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

If we all kept these commandments the world would be a better place and if employeers treated there employees that way that the Lord said for slaves to be treated the work place would be a better place as well.

I'm sorry. I've tried. But believing in all this hokey pokey Jesus stuff I can't do.
You put your repenting in
You put your sins out
You put your repenting in
And you confess it all about

You do the hokey pokey
And you give yourself to Christ
That's what it's all about

I'm sorry. I've tried. But believing in all this hokey pokey Jesus stuff I can't do. I've tried very hard. But the more I read and the more excuses I get for things like hurricanes happening the more I realize that's it's just all one big fairy tale lie. I feel like you are all brain-washed. I'm glad you all have something that makes you happy. But for me it made me more confused and more depressed. Everything is so inconsistent it's really pathetic.

examples:

The Earth is only 6,000 years old, I was told the age of trees, icebergs, rocks, carbon dating, etc.. is all wrong. Though they all match and state the earth is billions of years old, they are all wrong because a long time ago the seasons were different and it got cold-hot-cold again several times a day, whatever.

Hurricanes occur to bring people together. OK - sure. So an almighty god that can do anything preaches nothing but love, then uses death and horror to bring people together. Better yet - hurricanes punish people. ok - sure.

Slavery - all over the bible... read it

Gays.. They are so bad, so bad, that god will not let them into heaven. Yet god has a plan for all of us so obviously he planned them to be gay and go to hell. Guess you gotta fill it somehow because the divorced people are still going to heaven, oh wait, they are supposed to be punished with death.

God gave us free will. OK - good point. Then how does he have a plan for all of us?

You people and your excuses make no sense at all.

Anyone willing to convince me otherwise and succeeds I'll send a $1[
/QUOTE]

1. Answers are easily available to anyone who wants them:

There are innumerable books written, by innumerable scholars, addressing all of your objections in great detail from every possible perspective... if you really wanted answers, you could easily find them.

There are books written by philosophers, educators, physicists, biologists, mathematicians, historians, even lawyers... take your pick.

If books are too much trouble, there are innumerable videos and lectures by respected scholars.

2. Your points aren't new or clever, they've been answered and refuted centuries ago:

Not only are there innumerable books written addressing these objections, but every objection you mentioned is HUNDREDS OF YEARS OLD... some are thousands of years old... nothing you said is new or clever... and every point has been addressed and refuted thoroughly many centuries before your favorite atheist authors were even born.

3. It is not our job, as Christians, to "convince" you of anything... it's silly of you to expect us to care.

Believe whatever you like.

It doesn't affect my day at all.

You can lead a horse to water, but at the end of the day... it's still a horse.

4. Do some of my comments seem harsh?

It's pointless to coddle someone who comes here ONLY with the intention of arguing and fighting... the OP is not a "seeker"... that is obvious for all to see.

Calvin said the science of apologetics was primarily to "stop the mouths of the obstreperous"... that pretty much sums up my thoughts as well.

The book of Proverbs has a lot to say about these kinds of people... it doesn't tell us to coddle them.
It says to ignore them, or to set them straight.
But it clearly says we are not to waste our time engaging with them as if they're sensible, and wasting our time.

5. Final Thought:

If you want to bring up philosophical objections...
but you're too LAZY or UNEDUCATED to read any one of the THOUSANDS of books answering the objections...
why should we waste our time?

You need to go be lazy and angry somewhere else.

Nobody here has time.

So why are you here? If you don't believe, then don't worry about it. Why bother coming on here and telling us all this?
I don't go to atheist forums and preach the Gospel. I don't bother because I know they've made up their minds and I don't care to hear them out.

But you secretly want someone to prove you wrong. You have a God-shaped hole in your soul that only He can fill. That's why you're here.

1. Seems the OP was banned.

Kudos mods, well done.

2. SovereignGrace, it seems you're still a Calvinist... hmmm... I'd keep both eyes on you but that's simply beyond my means.

Seriously, it's ok... you can't help being a Calvinist... it was predestined... I know.

Hmmm...I am torn. They banned him, but maybe somebody could've gotten to him. Let's pray for him.

Actually from your lens, the Arminian brethren, are predestined to be wrong, I think :)

I suspect that your main problem with belief has to do with not understanding the supreme overwhelming power and intelligence of God. I will say that you have also been deceived by some Christians who say that God loves everyone. Proverbs 6:12-19 tells of the hatred of God for wicked types of people, not just their actions. Notice also that He destroys them. Most people belong to Satan. God protects His own with certain exceptions. The discipline described in Hebrews 12:7-8, the taking of life to spare a Christian from evil described in Isaiah 57:1-2 and the tests, such as Jesus endured. The people that belong to Satan have no such protection and can be treated in any manner that Satan desires. Thus our disasters destroy mainly unbelievers with some Christians taken or punished. As far as punishment and the forgiveness of sin, our sins will be forgiven when we are resurrected, but while on earth we must suffer punishment for our misdeeds. (Hebrews 12:8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.) I think I may have answers that will satisfy you about your other concerns, but I need to get my sister to bed. We've been blessed with her affliction of Alzheimer's, which I think God is using as a punishment for both of us and a means of training me in patience, not being lazy, acting immediately when He seems to be telling me to do something and helping me understand when He is telling me to do something. I hope I have helped. A few things I believe, others don't, but if you are interested I should be able to write them out for you tomorrow morning. Goodnight.

If the earth was billions of years old, hurricanes did not bring people together (I can't believe anyone ever said that but ok), homesuxuality was not a sin, slavery was not in the Bible, we did not have free will would you get saved then?

I’m sorry, it’s the universe that’s 14.7 billion years old. The earth is only 4,3 billion years old but man has been on this earth only 6 million years. When speaking Bible language earth = civilation. You have to understand it’s healed by the finger ofGod which is just a term of saying healed by God. The meaning is the same. We must take one item on your list at a time so it my go slow
