Can you tell me who the two witnesses are?
The Bible does not say who they are specifically. However I can tell you who the two most likely canidates are, and why.
Hebrews 9:27 (HCSB)
[SUP]
27 [/SUP] And just as
it is appointed for people to die once—and after this, judgment—
There is only one exception to that rule:
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (HCSB)
[SUP]
16 [/SUP] For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
[SUP]
17 [/SUP]
Then we who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so we will always be with the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:51-53 (HCSB)
[SUP]
51 [/SUP] Listen! I am telling you a mystery: We will not all fall asleep
{die}, but
we will all be changed,
[SUP]
52 [/SUP] in a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and
the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.
[SUP]
53 [/SUP] For this corruptible must be clothed with incorruptibility, and
this mortal must be clothed with immortality.
BUT WHAT ABOUT ENOCH AND ELIJAH, THEY DID NOT DIE?
EXACTLY! But they will die once if they are the Two Witnesses.
Genesis 5:24 (HCSB)
[SUP]
24 [/SUP]
Enoch walked with God;
then he was not there because God took him.
2 Kings 2:11-12 (HCSB)
[SUP]
11 [/SUP] As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire with horses of fire suddenly appeared and separated the two of them.
Then Elijah went up into heaven in the whirlwind.
[SUP]
12 [/SUP] As Elisha watched, he kept crying out, “My father, my father, the chariots and horsemen of Israel!”
Then he never saw Elijah again. He took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces.
Revelation 11:3-12 (NJB)
[SUP]
3 [/SUP] But I shall send
my two witnesses to prophesy for twelve hundred and sixty days, wearing sackcloth.
[SUP]
4 [/SUP] These are the
two olive trees and the two lamps
in attendance on the Lord of the world.
[SUP]
5 [/SUP] Fire comes from their mouths and consumes their enemies if anyone tries to harm them; and anyone who tries to harm them will certainly be killed in this way.
[SUP]
6 [/SUP] They have the power to lock up the sky so that it does not rain as long as they are prophesying; they have the power to turn water into blood and strike the whole world with any plague as often as they like.
[SUP]
7 [/SUP]
When they have completed their witnessing, the beast that comes out of the Abyss is going to make war on them and overcome them and kill them.
[SUP]
8 [/SUP] Their corpses lie in the main street of the great city known by the symbolic names Sodom and Egypt, in which their Lord was crucified.
[SUP]
9 [/SUP]
People of every race, tribe, language and nation stare at their corpses, for three-and-a-half days, not letting them be buried,
{A prophecy not possible before Satellite TV.}
[SUP]
10 [/SUP] and the people of the world are glad about it and celebrate the event by giving presents to each other, because these two prophets have been a plague to the people of the world.'
[SUP]
11 [/SUP] After the three-and-a-half days,
God breathed life into them and they stood up on their feet, and everybody who saw it happen was terrified;
[SUP]
12 [/SUP]
then I heard a loud voice from heaven say to them, ‘Come up here,' and while their enemies were watching, they went up to heaven in a cloud.
ONE MORE POINT, sure the Miracles of themselves will convince many to listen to them; however I believe there is more going on during that TIME of the Two Witnesses telling them that JESUS IS YOUR MESSIAH. I believe that GOD will make it possible for the whole Nation of ISRAEL to supernaturally recognize WHO THEY ARE. GOD did that very Miracle when Peter, John, and James recognized Moses and Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration without being told who they were. Luke 9:28-36
For those who doubt that it could be Enoch and Elijah, because it says that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God, therefore Elijah had to be in his Immortal Body when he was on the Mount of Transfiguration. WHO SAYS GOD IS BOUND BY TIME AND SPACE, AND IS NOT POWERFUL ENOUGH TO GRAB TWO MEN OUT OF THERE TIME FRAME AND TAKE THEM INTO THE FUTURE WERE HE HAS A SPECIFIC MINISTRY FOR THEM?
Luke 1:37 (NIV)
[SUP]
37 [/SUP]
"For nothing is impossible with God."
