The contradictions and duplicity of people is amazing here. There seems to be only one discussion on the BDF:
How were you saved. Nothing else is ever discussed, because "if we cannot get this right!!!!, we cannot discuss anything else.
Possible Translation? All I know is saving grace so other true discussion is out.
I see what you're saying. But I can't help but think there's something bigger going on. For example, I hear some make some very good statements, then talk about false doctrine like it's all they've ever known. Sure, there's hypocrisy in this discussion forum, and some "them vs us" arguments, but there seems to be a unity between those that believe various false doctrines. That doesn't make sense.

1 John 2:1 is meant for all men...at the start of their walk with God.
To rely on it in order to justify a life of sin is just plain wickedness.

I believe Scripture teaches both; but I recognize your right to disagree.
After I explain why I believe what I believe; it is not my role to persuade you or yours to persuade me.
If we are both saved, the Lord will correct one or both of us in His time.
It is not my role to speculate about your Salvation or yours to question mine.
Why were you subjecting yourself to something you have been freed from?
Please remember that we are "working things out" as children of God now, and not children of the devil.
Don't use this as an excuse to satisfy now dead "flesh".
Are they not intertwined?
Is not our faith also a "labor" done by us?

It is written..."But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins." (2 Peter 2:19)
And..."Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;" (Rom 3:25)
Those who follow Christ are not led into further sin.

Didn't say I forgot I am in Christ. I said we can forget WHO we are IN Christ. We can fall back into discouragement and see ourselves as sinners and not saints. We can be tempted by the world, the flesh and the devil to condemn ourselves even when the Bible says in Romans 8:1 There is therefore NOW NO condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.
Christians have been tormented when they forget who they are in Christ and that they have been forgiven and already purged from their sins. 2 Peter 1:9

When we have these qualities we WILL BE increasing in them and they will render us neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But some Christians have been rendered useless for a while in their walk because they have allowed the enemy to steal the truth of their salvation. They don't have those attributes developing in them because many have been derailed in their faith by the lie of the world., the flesh and the devil.
I heard a message with the verse 2 Peter 1:9 about those who lack the qualities of diligence to your faith., moral excellence, knowledge., self control., perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love. It is they who have forgotten they were purged and are sons of God. Soooo important we hold on to the truth of who we are IN Christ.

I am brand new here and have been trying to wade through as many meandering posts I can bear without getting weary.. So many have gotten away from you original post.
Why do we have to confess our sins? The Greek says "to say the same thing" or to simply site our sins. Acknowledge them. Why? For as long as we remain in our bodies of corruption we will sin at times. We all do. Does God throw us in the Lake of Fire for sinning? No. Its been paid for on the Cross and we are to have no fear of the Lake of Fire being our destiny.
So, why do we need to acknowledge our sins that we become aware of? 1 John 1:9 adds that not only does he forgive the sins we confess, but will also purify us from all unrighteousness. All wrongdoing.
This is what happens when we sin. The Holy Spirit must cease from being one with us in our experience. For the Holy Spirit can not remain being one with sin. Sin cuts us off from the filling of the Spirit. But, once we name our sins the filling of the Spirit is restored. Because of the Cross sin is not going to send us to Hell. But, it will cause us to begin walking in our flesh as long as we do not confess/acknowledge our sins... when we do sin.
Confessing our sins (homolegeho) means several things in the Greek. But, one means "to say the same thing." Another means to cite a case, for it was also a courtroom term. It actually means both. For we cite our sins as in court because that sin has already been judged. We are citing that that sin has been paid for. Yet? That sin still cuts us off from walking in the Spirit for the reason I just gave. God can not be one with sin. Its against His nature.
When we name our sins? We are also saying the same thing. As what are we saying the same thing.
Here is what I have come to believe is the crux of why we are to name our sins... Its quite simple to understand once we are shown the following.
Amos 3:3...
"Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?"
"Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?"
When we sin? We stop walking in the Spirit for God must separate from being one with sin. Now, if we agree with God? And call our sin "sin?" We are then in agreement and can once again begin walking together in fellowship. We agree! Then we begin walking together. God forgives for breaking fellowship and purifies us from all wrongdoing. (1 John 1:9)
We are never to receive the punishment for sins. For, Jesus bore that punishment on the Cross. But, we are responsible to to be led into sanctification. 1 John 1:9 is a powerful tool is to learn to distance ourselves from what we are in our flesh, and put on the new man in Christ.
By naming our sins? We agree with God that what we name are sins. And, as we grow in grace and knowledge we can begin to become more astute and sensitive to learning that some things we gave no thought for in the past, are now understood as being sin as well. Hence... progressive sanctification.
By becoming more aware of the many ways to sin, we should find ourselves sinning less as the Spirit empowers us more and more in grace and knowledge of Truth.
Jesus was the Word made flesh. And, as we grow more and more in knowing the Word by staying in fellowship by quickly naming our sins... we, in essence, will become transformed more and more into the Word remaking our "flesh" as we become more and more like Christ who is all the Word.
That is why we are not only to name our sins when we do sin. But to do so quickly ... quickly being restored back into fellowship... So we can keep moving ahead in the filling of the Spirit we are to walk with.
"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being
transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from

So, when we name our sins? We are finding ourselves being in 'agreement' with God who calls our sin "sin."... Then by being in agreement? We can commence once more in walking together on the path leading to our transformation into His image.

I would like to also see a verse that says future sins are already forgiven. I aint seen one yet. Romans 3:25 mentions past, 1 john 1:9 mentions present. What about the future?
First...I don't like your version of the bible...with all the interrupting insertions.
It's very distracting...to me.
Second...Those in Christ have killed the old, self thanks be to God, so there is no returning to it.
To differentiate between "being in Christ" and "who we are in Christ" is just semantics.
Both bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
If they don't, you have some other spirit.
Here is the cure for that...
It is written..."[FONT="]And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts." (Gal 5:24)
Peter writes..."[/FONT][FONT="]Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;" (1 Peter 4:1)
When we suffer with Christ, it is when we are "immersed" (baptized) into his death. (Rom 6:3-6)
The result? "For he that is dead is freed from sin". (Rom 6:7)
You don't have to keep sinning.
Start with a real repentance from sin.[/FONT]
"Forgiven" .. for sins that cause an interruption of our walking in fellowship with God in the filling of the Spirit.
In contrast to: What was "PAID FOR" on the Cross, so God would not forsake all mankind all together. Without the provision of the Cross all of us would have been forsaken and not even offered forgiveness.
The penalty for sin was bore by Jesus on the Cross.
He was forsaken so that all mankind would not have to be forsaken forever. Forsaken by a Holy God that can have nothing to do with man's depravity.
"My God! My God! Why have you forsaken me!?"
Jesus was forsaken by the Father. Forsaken for the sins of the all mankind while they were being poured on his body as he was nailed on the Cross!
Jesus paid the penalty for us being born a sinner by nature .. And, even for those who would refuse to believe in Him!

"He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours
but also for the sins of the whole world." 1 John 2:2
All unbelievers will not be going to the Lake of Fire for their sins. The penalty was paid for on the Cross!
And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books
were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life.
And the dead were judged according to their works,(not sins) by
the things which were written in the books."
No unbeliever's sins will be mentioned in the final judgement. Only their works will be evaluated.
One work will be searched for and not found! That one work? They never believed in Jesus Christ! (John 6:28-29)
Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”
Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he
has sent.”

The unbeliever's rejection of Jesus Christ will condemn them Not their sins which were paid for on the Cross! God has given everyone a fair and equal chance for salvation.
At the final judgment of the unbeliever only their works will be evaluated (no sins will be mentioned). And, everyone who rejected Christ will come up short of the required righteousness by God for His acceptance of them into His Kingdom. Their works will not save them. They will be seen as filthy rags in His sight.
With the penalty for being born sinners having been paid for on the Cross? ... We yet remain on this earth in a body that can sin. So, the lhe lingering effect of sin was resolved by the blood of Christ. For we can now regain lost filling of the Spirit when we may sin by the blood of Christ provision, by simply naming our sins.
Acknowledge when you sin before God? Do not deny it? And, back into walking in the Light with God. The provision of the forgiveness of sins can only be offered to those who believe. For that power for forgiveness restores us to walking in the Spirit after we may have stumbled into a sin.
