Shoud a woman be a pastor overseeing men?

I would like to point out the difference between the offices that are distributed according to the Holy Spirit (prophet, evangelist, pastor , teacher, etc.) and the offices that are established within the structure of authority (elder, deacon), This, I believe has a great impact on the discussion.
Also, if the greatest commandment is to love God and to love our neighbor, then however you interpret the scriptures concerning this issue, it must reflect love and respect toward both men and women.

The gift of prophecy did not make one a pastor. The term pastor is equal to shepherd and is another term describing the role of the elders and/or bishops.

pastor/shepherd = poimein
elder/older man = presbuteros
bishop/overseer = episkopos
Considering that since the time of CHRIST; 1st there is no such thing as a Preist, Pastor YES;

2nd If CHRIST told US that OUR flesh body is OUR Temple; That should obviously make you realize that OUR Mouth IS OUR Church!!!

IT has only taken till NOW to Figure that OUT!

FILL your TEMPLE with The WORD OF GOD!

Love to ALL in CHRIST!!!:)

Wow, so you are saying Paul was a heritic. That is pretty scary stuff. The Bible says

For the prophey came not in old time by the will of men: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Peter 1:21

All scripture is geven by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16
Putting limitations on women as preachers is not to put them down but to protect them. Feminists and alike always question Paul over this and prefer to skip over what he says. The man may have been a bachelor but God filled him with the Holy Spirit so if he says something that we as modern westerners dont like then we need to figure out why he wrote it and under what context and most importantly of all how does it apply to us. We cant take some laws - keep them and ignore the other stuff esp if its from the same writer such as Paul.

Paul frowned on women becomming elders not preachers. Women can be gifted to be brilliant teachers and we know that requires a bit of theological training and preaching. But being an elder is a headship position and is all to do with spiritual warfare. Paul was a huge authority on spiritual warfare and was proactive in instructing the church how to fight this power. A common thing with Satan is this: The bigger the impact you are doing for Gods kingdom the bigger the threat you are to him. Eldership is a huge honour but also a huge responsibility and encompasses many sacrifices and trials. God created man to be the head of his own family because he was made in Gods likeness as a warrior. Woman was created to be celebrated by providing and sustaining life. Men are to protect that. This is why Satan targeted Eve, not Adam. If he had picked on Adam he would have been met with force and would have had less chance to succeed. This is not to say that women are weak in a derogatory manner. Im just saying that women in leadership positions will have to deal with the spiritual hurts that go with the job. Satan is not gentler in his attack on women just because we are women. I tend to think he's worse. Men are made to protect us. If we take an elder position who are we to then lovingly submit to other than God? Who will guide and protect us when Satan attacks?

Paul was not sexist. He was just looking out for women. Hes just as hard on men too you know - its a two way street.

Do you believe that it is biblically acceptable to have women in church teaching men in an authority position. If you do, please support your belief with scripture giving examples and make your defense of the passages which seem to be in opposition to your belief.

And please, try to keep it civil. :)
Hi,
I have found this a burning and very important issue. My answer is definitely no but not No as you may think.
Galations 3:26 "You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.for all of you who were baptised into Christ have clothed yourself with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ then you are Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise."

My understanding of this is not to listen to the lady who is not speaking as a christian as Christ may not be speaking through her. Once she has become baptised and remains in Christ then she has put on Christ, her sex is lost. Note there is no marriage in the resurrection as we are as the angels. This is a spiritual issue not an issue of the flesh.
I was watching some preview of that latest movie craze, a love story involving spirits as werewolves etc, sorry I cant remember the name, and the camera panned the screaming audience and it seemed to be a sea of teenage ladies. I wondered why these issues seem to attract a majority of females if in fact they do. Just an obversation on the one occasion.

walk in love

PS we are coheirs with Christ. In the old testament, were women allowed to be heirs? If not then undoubtedly ladies loose their sex when they put on Christ because they must be sons to be coheirs.

Well since America's society has transitioned so far from the industrial and manufacturing economy and paternal based society the elderly generation grew up in to a service economy and maternal based society we see today, why not?

Since I've had to spend so many years being bossed around all day in my cubicle by loud soccor mom managers that control everything in our society today why not be bossed around on Sunday at church by female preachers... lol. The rapture will be a release from more than this fallen corrupt flesh.

OK I hope I'm not in any trouble now lolol.

I don't think that women were seen as inferior, at least in Jewish society. That may have been the case among the pagans. It's just that men and women were seen as having different, but distinct roles in the family and society. If you read scripture without the feminist bias that pervades our society, you will see that God has ordained specific roles for women and men in the family, and in church government. It is not wise to heed counsil that puts one at odds with God's will.

Is it possible that the blurring of traditional gender roles in the marriage is a major contributor to the 50% + divorce rate in western society?

you will not suffer a womanto teach nor to usurp authority over a man

an elder must be the husbando f one wife, hospitable and apt to teach
Amen! St. Paul, greatkraw, Mich, et.al. have been doing their Bible Study homework.
I have never understood why a few women even want such a demanding job. I cannot see Moses appointing Miriam to lead instead of Joshua.

women are only happy when they are serving a man

this is why there are so many unhappy women in the world

ROFL!!
This is too funny. ...this sounds like something pastor Hagee (a real guy) would say while preaching...

This is the first, and probably the only time that Greatkraw has been compared to Hagee.

It has to do with justice. I believe it is unjust to force a woman to submit to her husband or prohibit her from being a pastor.
...having seen plenty in the household of the Lord for over 30 years, I promise you I have known plenty happy women serving the Lord in submission to their godly husbands, and I have seen bitter wives going astray from their preacher husbands who should have not been taking a preaching job they couldn't handle.

Submission to godliness is a voluntary state of mind fueled by God, yielding peace and joy. As my Christian grandmother would say to me, "a load which is carried in joy is never a burden."

...well this is even funnier!!
I don't know greatkraw, yet the post sounded like something pastor Hagee would say.
Don't you think?
