No, they are not the same thing. It's the difference between Christ looking for works to see who has earned a place in the kingdom, and Him looking for works to see who has been gifted a place in the kingdom through the transforming power of his forgiveness. Here's an example:

47“For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much...” (Luke 7:47 NASB)

Jesus is saying he can tell her sins are forgiven by the way she loves. This is how it will be on the Day of Judgment. Christ will use what we have done in our lives to see if we are forgiven as evidenced by our obedience displayed in our active love for Him.

34“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ " (Matthew 25:34-36 NASB)

See? That's how works are required in salvation without those works earning that salvation as most in the church instantly think works means in salvation.
please, what is the difference between earning a place in the Kingdom and being gifted a place?

you sound like you believe God has to learn something. but no, see here! :)

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. (Heb 4:13)

Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite. (Ps 147:5)

and yes! we are to love.

Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. We will know by this that we are of the truth, and will assure our heart before Him in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things. (1 Jn 3:18-20)

the Lord Jesus doesn't need to see if we have been forgiven. He is the One Who did it.

Essentially, you are saying you "cheer on people who can never reach their intended goal". "Praise the Lord if you are walking in obedience", (which can't happen in this present age).
Obedience to God equates to sin free.
You are kidding yourself if you don't think that the idea of subservience to God isn't offensive to those who serve sin.
To imagine that serving God faithfully is a false gospel, when it was never presented as a gospel, is misdirected...at best.
Living without sin/obedient to God is the result of the gospel.
Without Jesus' death, burial and resurrection, we could never be baptized into that death and resurrection...as new creatures born of Godly seed instead of Adamic.
Those without faith would rather develop grand doctrines to keep sinning.
tell us how do we walk in perfect obedience? how can we live without sin? im really interested in the mechanics of this. im sure the mechanics are sliding past romans 7. but i still wanna hear it

Slight correction: We only have GOOD works after salvation. Not before. :) There is none righteous on this earth, God says so. So how can our works be righteous, when we are not?

You only have righteous works after salvation not before.

If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away like a branch, and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and letting My words; abide in you, you will ask what you will, and it will be done for you. In this is My Father glorified: when you produce much fruit; and in this way you become My disciples. Just as the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you; continue in My love. If you keep My Commands, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's Commands, and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be complete. This is My Command: Love one another as I have loved you. NO THAT IS WHAT PAUL SAID:

Philippians 3:12 (NKJV)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on,
that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

Paul WROTE that obviously AFTER he visited Phillipi, which was on his second missionary journey between 49 and 51 A.D.

Most theologians think Paul wrote Phillipians in 62 A.D.

Paul was executed during the reign of NERO, who died in 68 A.D.

So Paul a few years before he was executed wrote:
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected;
but you think you have already attained perfection.
AMAZING FALSE THEOLOGY.

On top of it all, you deliberately Twisted Posthuman's post to say he implied that Jesus was a sinner.
AMAZING.
Last time I checked, twisting someone else's words to serve your purposes, is deliberately telling a LIE.
AND LYING IS A SIN.

Then your LAST STATEMENT above, which appears to be aimed at those of us who disagree with you, is yet another deliberate LIE about our Beliefs, to serve your own purposes. It appears, you can lie so easily.
AMAZING.
AND LYING IS A SIN.

REPENT!

Proverbs 6:16-19 (NASB)
[SUP]16 [/SUP] There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
[SUP]17 [/SUP] Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood,
[SUP]18 [/SUP] A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil,
[SUP]19 [/SUP] A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.

Revelation 21:8 (YLT)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] and to fearful, and unstedfast, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all the liars, their part is in the lake that is burning with fire and brimstone, which is a second death.'

Romans 2:5-6 (HCSB)
[SUP]5 [/SUP] But because of your hardness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed.
[SUP]6 [/SUP] He will repay each one according to his works:

My, oh my! Are you and your false theology ever on THIN ICE?

What is he doing to the quotes that make it look look like someone else said what he said?
I proof read the post, and in my old age, I read what I think I wrote, not even seeing that I left off the ing.

Eternal life is a gift of God's mercy and grace, not the wages earned for work completed. You knew this, right?

Eternal life is given through faith in the grace of God's forgiveness. The people who have that forgiveness are signified by their obedience to God summarized in 'love your neighbor as yourself'.

the Lord Jesus doesn't need to see if we have been forgiven. He is the One Who did it.
No he doesn't need to see our works to know if we are forgiven or not. But I think he judges according to our works because that will leave no room for any creature in the universe to charge him with injustice.

Everybody, saved and unsaved alike, will be judged according to their works. Our works indicate to all the justice of the eternal fate we receive. Some will show by what they did that they are forgiven in Christ and will go into the kingdom. Others will show by what they did that they never believed, or walked in contempt of the forgiveness they received and they will be sentenced to the lake of fire.

That's not a works gospel, folks. That's what the Bible says. Your works while on earth will be used as the evidence of whether you trust in and cherish the blood of Christ for the forgiveness of sin, or whether you do not trust in and cherish the blood of Christ for the forgiveness of sin. It's really that simple.

Rewarded...not judged, rewarded according to our works.

I was thinking this morning about the woman who was caught in adultery. Jesus said to those who were her accusers, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I guess PJW would of stepped up to the plate, huh?

No, he would have just changed it like he did here to--->those who no longer sin cast the first stone....

2 Corinthians 5:17-21New International Version (NIV)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

When we repent of our sins we are cleansed by the blood of Jesus and become righteous.

Becoming righteous is being without sin. The one and only way we can become righteous is by being cleansed of our sins through the blood of Jesus. The verb used in the original Greek means that we must continuously be cleansed daily by repenting. This is not a one and done but a daily process of repenting.
