One of my main, online, pastors-dudes recently posted a trailer for an upcoming discussion about Christmas in terms of Evangelicalism. How it's such a great time of the year to share the word.

----Note- Accidentally posted before I was finished typing. Come back soon for the point. lol

OK- so I just learned of the 5 minute rule to editing and I usually take at least 20 to formulate what I'm going to type so I'll just post the topic here because I'm in a rush and I don't want to leave the thread hanging.

But in a nutshell, my favorite Internet pastor made a trailer for a Christmas video he was going to post and the comment section was full of "haters." I would say 90% of the people responding were declaring Christmas to be a pagan holiday and nothing more.

Nearly everyone was saying it was wrong to celebrate at all, some going so far as to argue that God never wanted us to celebrate the birth of Jesus- only his death and resurrection.

One person I spoke with said that, "how can you celebrate in good conscious when thousands of [people] get sacrificed [every Christmas to Satan.]" I would note that while he did cite video evidence of people who survived sacrificial rites belonging to satanist cults, he could not provide evidence that it is a common occurrence that a large number of people are sacrificed in modern times during Christmas.

I know that the original festival that occurred was that of paganism, but I believe in a redeeming God and find no fault in celebrating God's gift to the world at that particular time of the year. I'm merely shocked at the sheer number of people who so fervently believed that all of Christmas was soiled and tainted by paganism.

Anyway- poll away, I'm curious about individual traditions and beliefs.

Personally, I do take part in secular and religious traditions. However I have decided that if I ever have children, I won't let them believe in Santa Claus but I'll tell them what we know about the real Saint Nick. Just from my own personal history. When I heard the, 'sad but true' story about Santa my heart was broken. I thought he was as much of an angel as Gabriel. Lol.

Christmas comes way too early.
Teaching the kids to believe in Santa Claus is good for behavior modification and psychological warfare. When they act up, just pull out the phone and tell them your calling Santa.

All I know is, every year about this time I rejoice to find egg nog once again in the store refrigerator! Melted ice cream in a cup! This morning for breakfast I took a banana, oats and egg nog and blended it up for a delicious breakfast smoothie.

As for the modern concept of a fat guy in a red suit who goes around the whole world giving presents, my parents never told me that was true. I knew my parents got those presents. And if I ever had a kid I wouldn't want the credit for my presents to go to some myth. I worked hard for the money, I picked out a present I thought they would like, I want them to know that present came from ME because I love them.

Hoist a cup to Christmas, the most delicious time of year!

The biggest irony is all of these people engage in pagan practices in one way or another. And when you challenge them to give them All up there's always an excuse. I have Never once met one of these anti-holiday types that were not hypocrites by active, willfull choices they made. If they refuse to even attempt to live their belief out 100% it negates their argument.

Ask them about wedding rings. Wedding ceremonies. Names of the days of the week. Some of the most common pagan based aspects of society and you can guarantee they go along with at least one. And once you find more things with pagan roots you find more things they choose to do.
This is modern day religious attitudes. Especially in the BDF where people are constantly nasty and vile, using God to justify their behavior, then complain about celebrating holidays. It's all a huge joke.

I chose: Celebrate with more religious traditions with some secular aspects. Because like...we give gifts and stuff, so I guess maybe that's secular? Though it is biblical to give gifts on celebrations :D. Holidays are huge in our house. I love them as a time to remember the Lord's goodness and to spend time with family.

Christmas is the day CHRISTIANS celebrate the birth of Christ. Pagans do not celebrate any kind of Christmas, their "holiday" is Saturnalia which falls in Dec. 27 or later, NOT Dec. 25.

The Winter Solstice was NOT a Roman Civil holiday until 273 AD. The Emperor Aurelian made December 25th a civil holiday because the Christians were already using it to celebrate the Birth of Jesus and he was trying to detract from the Christian celebration!

None of the Sun Cults used December 25th before then. It appears that the Winter Solstice was originally a CHRISTIAN feast that the pagans tried to paganize, not the other way around.

The poll didn't give a choice that fits my belief. Now whether people want to allow their children to believe in santa clause or not is not my place to judge so long as they always teach and remember the true meaning and spirit of the holiday. My core belief is that the reason and the meaning with anything be that anything in life or in faith begins and ends with the heart because the motive of the heart is always the deciding factor.
People who would harass and hound others for celebrating Christmas and Jesus birthday are most likely the same kind of people who when they drive by your house and see Christmas decorations or even a statue of Mary and Jesus as a baby in the crib have a look of angry disgust on their face and say to their shot gun rider how these people should be ashamed and to pray for ignorance.
This is not love and is not the fruit of the spirit it is judgmental and we are not called to be judgmental, people can go under the guise of standing for righteousness and for standing against paganism against Jesus but their fruits are clearly seen and known and it is anything but love or peace or joy or any of the fruits of the spirit.
I am an adult but have the heart of a child and so I see things through different eyes, when the Christmas season starts to come around I can just sense the Christmas spirit everywhere I go I am naturally more joyful and more at peace and I see the spirit of god more in people in this time than any other time people are more loving and more joyful they give so much more and the story of Jesus and his birth is sung so much in this time in such beautiful ways and if I am pagan for seeing all of this and celebrating his birth with joy and with love and peace then I will let god himself be the judge of my heart not zealous how dare you celebrate paganism and his birth christians.

Remember that satan always undermines what God intended for good so is it really that surprising that he would start a pagan holiday to make you not celebrate his birth? as for people being upset about celebrating his birth and focusing on his death remember that he is the God of life and that had he not been born would not have died

Christmas is also a cultural holiday. Lots of people celebrate Christmas without Christ, but that does not automatically mean paganism. It's just a lame Christmas.

I can't vote. If people want to celebrate Christmas, that's their decision, and for whatever reasons they decide to. I don't observe it and haven't since I was a small child unless I was dragged along to Christmas by a romantic partner. I'm not in any position to say what is right or wrong though.

The only reference to the time of year is Shepherd’s staying with the flock at night. There is also timing for Elizabeth getting pregnant with her husband serving in the temple. Many using these facts point to September but there is nothing that can be proven. Rules were set about when particular priests served but the Babylonian capture messes that up. End result is nobody knows. Maybe that is God's plan.

Works on women too.

I would prefer to simply defend myself against these accusations.

But I've found that sometimes when I'm defending myself....

it turns out I'm on the wrong side.
