Is wearing head covering biblical? Many Christians not just Mennonites and simple folk wear them. I have been struggling with the passage in scripture. I have been told differing opinions. When a woman does wear a covering is it for God or Man or Both?
1Co 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
1Co 11:10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.
1Co 11:4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
1Co 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
1Co 11:6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
1Co 11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
1Co 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
1Co 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
The head covering is talking about hair.
A man should have short hair because he is in the image of God,and nature teaches that it is a shame for a man to have long hair.Jesus came in the image of God so He would of had short hair.
Samson had long hair,but that was Old Testament,and after Adam and Eve sinned nobody was in the image of God until Christ came,for to be in the image of God is to have an innocent nature in flesh.
A woman should have long hair,and if she does not have long hair then it is the same as if she is shaven.
God wants a distinction between a man and a woman,and if a man has long hair,and a woman has short hair,then they are putting them in the place of the opposite sex.
1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
1Ti 2:10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
1Pe 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
1Pe 3:2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
1Pe 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
1Pe 3:4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
But there are many people that do not want to be told how to wear their hair,or do not tell them they cannot put on make up,and jewelry,but it is to be the inner man we show by the Spirit,not the outer appearance.
The Bible says that a man should have short hair for he is in the image of God,so Jesus would of had short hair,so that should settle it that a man should have short hair unless he does not want to be in the image of God.
And a woman should have long hair because of the angels,in which people will have a higher position in heaven than that of the angels,and it shows her authority above the angels,and if she cuts her hair then it is the same as if she is shaven,and puts herself in the place of a man.
I know many will not buy it for they like to have their hair the way they want,and wear jewelry,and put on make up,and tattoos,but what other way do you translate it.
Some will say they are legalists,and wrong,but how do you translate it when it is plain and simple.
A lot of people like to ignore scriptures even if they point out a certain truth they do not like,but will justify it to fit what they want to believe.
Does it make sense for a man and a woman to be showing off their outer self,or by showing the inner man by the Spirit.
That is what is important to God.
It is hard to get along with people who claim Christ today because so much of them do not like to hear things a certain way,but have the attitude do not tell us how to have our hair,and what to wear,and to abstain from make up,and jewelry,and we cannot abstain from sin,but we can by the Spirit if we do not want sin,and sin does not affect their relationship with God,which the Bible says God is not mocked for whatever a person sows that shall they reap,and for the saints to not be deceived by that,and the prosperity Gospel,which Paul says withdraw yourself from them,having food,and clothing,be content.
