Wow! It's those idioms that always get you in the end, right? Oops, different thread!
An American is a citizen of the United States of America. Just like a Canadian is a citizen of Canada. You do know that in the USA, the A stands for "America," right?
And living only an hour from the "American" border, watching "American" media, and having a majority of both CC and FB friends that are "American" I tend to think, at times, I am American. Meaning, a citizen of the United States of AMERICA!!
See, sometimes the teacher knows what she is talking about. Before you start to poke holes in what she says, be sure you are speaking idiomatic English. Pretty much any native English speaker, whether British, Canadian, Australian, New Zealander, and American, knows what I am speaking about. That an "American" is a citizen of the USA. And really, there is no such thing as a citizen of North America or South America. Because while you can live on a continent, you can not have citizenship for that continent. Well, except for Australia, being both.
And yes, there are some continents with the word "America" in them. You know, North and South America. But, other than me talking about "North American" media, because 90% of our media is American, and there is a HUGE influence on us, basically, Canada and the USA are very similar.
Except health care. We have the free universal type, and Americans have the pay outrageous amounts type of health care. But, in the long run, the US dominates us. That is the facts! Oops! I mean, those ARE the facts. Better not use any plays on words, or I'll get taken to task by a non-English speaker, with a computer whose commas stick.
By the way, my undergrad degree is in geography, so you might be best not to challenge me in something I know quite a bit about. Also, I have live in the United States for a couple of years, so I am familiar with a lot of things. (Not everything, of course!)
PS. Of course, Mexico is also part of North America, and I have been there a number of times. But, it doesn't have much of an influence on my life. The 7 countries of "Central America" the ones south of Mexico and north of Columbia, are actually a subcontinent of North America. You need a physical barrier technically to have different continents. Even Europe and Asia are separated by mountains.
Why are Christians such Christmas bashers!?! People are doing a mitzvah.. kind... giving to the poor; that normally never would... is this not a good thing!?!Why do so many Christians want to look down on Christmas. So what if they screwed it up and not Y-shua's birthday. Don't be like the pagans. They could have made it on His real birthday it would not have counted because it is not a Biblical holiday. Be a blessing to people this pleases G-d and if it takes a false holiday to make people go to church, thank G-d for it.... they just might get Saved....
My apologies, Angela. And my clarification actually wasn't towards you at all. I was humorously 'correcting' the one who corrected you (Iamsoandso)...kind of to prove the point that it's dangerous to start pointing fingers at others.
And to use that as a segue back to the original topic, I would like to partially apologize to anyone who felt attacked by my posts on the topic. I would love to say I was only posting helpful information without any malice. But I would be lying to say that. I said "partially" because of the malice. The information was still valid as far as i know. Malice just has a way of adding bitterness to an otherwise palatable dish.
I'm going to go one step further along the lines of what JaumeJ said regarding grace.
To every thing there is a season and a TIME to every purpose under heaven. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-9 <--recommended reading)
A TIME to love and a TIME to hate... Not a THING to love and a THING to hate. Love and hate done properly means love and hate done each in their proper time.
There is a TIME to love Christmas and each of the associated activities (good and/or bad) and there is a TIME to hate (turn away from) them. If a person doesn't think so, they just need to consider if now is a good TIME to have cousin Jimmie (who happens to be one and a half years old) plug in the string of lights.
So it is with everything in God. Has God shown you that something is wrong? For YOU, it is probably time to give that thing up. For someone else, it is probably time for them to keep loving it. That is something God set up so our attention will be on HIM, not on each other.

Rom 1v18, for the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold the truth in unrighteousness.
Don't you know that 'man's own good thoughts and ways are way out of line with God and we are not to lean on our own understanding...no matter how attractive ?
One consequence might be a Hangover lasting until the New Year and a n aversion to Turkey lasting until next Thanks Giving

It is kind of funny you think you go to a small church and then on Christmas service you can't even get in because there are so many people.
Same thing happens on Easter.
It makes me happy that there are so many who believe in God and do go to church but maybe don't have the time during the rest of the year.
Like a silent, invisible army that only shows up for "muster"... lol
I don't go to church. I refuse to go to a church that proudly displays the gay pride flag/colors in their windows and outside the front door..
and all God's people said amen.

If you ever do travel to any of the nations in the Americas other than the U.S.,Mexico or Canada take my advice and if they ask you at the customs office what you are do not say "American",I spent a day and a half in either an Argentine or Brazilian holding cell trying to prove that I was not being secretive by saying "American" about my nationality but that my answer was in fact an "idiom" used in the U.S. The officers from both nations told me real quick they weren’t asking me what continent but what nation and that they themselves were Americans.
Other nations I have travelled to do have laws regarding "Christmas" since around 2014-15 or so in the commonwealth (Eliz.2 ect.) there is the push of laws regarding the words "Christ- mass" and a push to reword it to "happy holidays" to not offend the Muslim population is it that way in Canada also?
Any way I was born in Texas,U.S.,,,still own property there and should have saw your statement as not a "pun" (my mistake) but if I offended you I apologise. I suppose it's a travelling thing in that Christmas is not the same anywhere I have gone. In South Africa they eat fried caterpillars(skipped that Christmas,lol). In Catalonia in their nativity scene there is a man using the bathroom(skipped that one too in fear of not understanding,lol) and the one in Greenland I skipped also, Mattak and Kiviak (raw whale skin and blubber and Aurk birds stuffed into a seal and fermented for 7 months),sounds yummy right? Strange how everyone doesn’t celebrate Christmas the same though.
I can't decide on whether you or Posthuman gets to throw the 2017 CC Christmas party.
Let them both do it and we will go to both.
