Hi,

I'm 25 years old and I have Alopecia.

I want to use Minoxidil or get a hair transplant, but I'm Christian.

Do you think God would agree with this?

Please, I nead well-founded answers.

Why wouldn't He?
Christians do things for their appearance all the time. Long as it doesn't interfere with your walk or become a problem then it should be fine.

Delight thyself in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of thy heart. Is what came....

I can't say that it's sinful to do, I think what's more important is if you can be happy as is. I cant say it's vain, you just want dignity. I'm 28 and have no top teeth, so I can get you might want hair again, and I really want teeth again. Lol.

Oh come on, y'all aren't playing the game right! You are supposed to pull out scripture about vanity and loudly denounce hair transplants, rogaine, hair dye and everything else of that nature.

Sheesh, how is a troll supposed to have any fun these days if you won't play along? (The "well founded answers" should have tipped you off.)

Sorry JonG, no sport here. Maybe try the Bible Discussions Forum? They're always up for a good argument.

Hi, Willie-T.

Kind of.

I have hair entrance and I can see a lot of my hair in my bathroom everyday.

Hi, Lynx. I see you're older than me.

I did the question because I want to do the right thing in front of God.

I don't know, maybe someone that have a strong communion with the holy spirit could tell me if use Minoxidil or get a hair transplant is a good or bad choice.

Howdy JonG. If your question was serious then I apologize. The way you phrased that starting post looked a lot like the way a troll would phrase it to start an argument.

As a serious answer to your question, I have no idea. I have hair loss at the front, my hair is beating a retreat backward across my head. If I did want to do something to remedy it, I have no idea if it would be vanity or not.

I guess it all depends on WHY you want to have a good head of hair. Some people want to avoid skin cancer on their scalps. Some guys just want to look good.

My BIL got it all the way, though patchy. He decided to shave it all and go the Mr. Clean route. Turned out to be a good look for him.

My theory on life.
I was supposed to get my first gray hair in my early 20s. As long as I didn't turn gray until at least 40, everything was fine.
As long as I have hair until I'm in my 70s, all his fine. (I'm a woman, so the age is different than guys. I give guys until 40.)
As long as I waited until my 30s or 40s for the crow's feet, all was fine.
As long as I made it to fifty to get my first serious-wrinkle, (crow's feet are not serious, albeit wrinkles), I was fine.
As long as I made it to mid 40s before I got my older-woman neck all was fine. (I got a goiter instead, so didn't get my older-woman neck until last August, when I had some of my goiter removed. Now, I'm really digging the turkey wottle, because it makes my neck look like an insie again. lol)

I really have received all I want out of the deal. Not even balding. So what would I do if I were in my 20s, a guy, and losing my hair? Whatever I could to make it to 40 with hair. I want to look my age. I don't blame you for wanting the same thing, and I'm guessing God has given us choices out of his goodness, so why not?

One question though -- is this balding or really alopecia? Because I think having hair, but no eyebrows or eyelashes would look odder than no hair at all.

Do understand I am now picturing you as the same Lynx as your avatar, however, the poor lynx looks like a hairless cat in the face. (Reality does not have to spoil my imagination.) You just turned into a lion. lol

On a more serious note, I wanted to look "normal," not out of vanity, (I think), nor for health concerns. I just don't like being the center of attention, and looking abnormal makes people look at me more. (And I really hate being the center of attention enough that I wanted to run away from my own wedding the moment I walked through the doors in the back of the church with Dad, because everyone stood up, turned around, and stared at me. Had I remembered that part, we would have eloped.) Just mentioning that now, because I bet there are a large variety of reasons people make appearance's decisions that others would never consider, so it does look like vanity, when it's not.

You really aren't going to find "well founded answers" since neither Minoxidil or hair implants existed 2,000 years ago thus you won't find a single verse that implores us to stay away from the evils of these things or giving us permission to indulge. The answers you get are going to be based on individuals conscience and them reading that conscience into scripture.

I think that most of those that have answered here are pretty well "connected" with the Spirit...

so, you have your answer.

If you were truly looking for an answer, that is.... if you were only here to create a mess, please, don't let the answers get in your way.

I have a friend who is about to be 26, hes had alopecia since age 2.

He learned to rock his smooth head as is. No need to change yourself.

Be confident and love yourself.

Treatments are too sketchy.

I lost a lot of hair from prednisone and methotrexate use. Mthx is a cancer drug drug for autoimmune diseases. This went on for over 25 years, so my hair was thin, to say the least.

On an RA forum, someone said take zinc and Biotin. I was already taking zinc, so Biotin was added. It took a year, but I gained back hair I had not seen since the early 1990's. I was delighted! So you might want to try that.

If your alopecia is auto-immune, perhaps you should see a doctor? There may be drugs to help.

As far as Scripture, if it is auto-immune, well that is a disease. There is no where in the Bible it says to not treat a disease. But even if it from other causes, it is still something that is not right with your body. (I'm assuming this isn't some kind of early on-set male pattern baldness?). My grandfather was almost completely bald. The Spanish flu after WWI, which killed a lot of his friends, and affected half of the world, caused his hair to fall out, even though he was in his early 20's.

Do you have a diagnosis? Or are you just assuming because there is hair on your brush and in the sink/shower, you have alopecia? Because, everyone loses about 100 hairs a day. It's when you are losing 1000, like I was, that you start to worry. Or do something about it!

And remember, God is in control, he loves you, and he doesn't want you to be upset! But, despite the warnings not to be vain about our appearances, this is not a salvic issue. So, even if it was in the Bible that you shouldn't use men's hair stimulants, you wouldn't lose your salvation over it. But, you might feel uncomfortable and out of fellowship with God. Then, you would want to do something about it.

I recall a sermon Chuck Swindoll gave once about makeup and Christian, I believe he was of the position that if the barn needs paint, paint it!
