well... i do like going to my church on Christmas and hugging everyone. we usually meet for only 1 hour and sing Christmas songs :)
 
Thats a good question. I really had to think about it. I was brought up celebrating Christmas as the day Jesus was born. We learn as we grow and read Gods word. Everyday is a day to celebrate the birth, remember the crucifiction, and rejoice in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
I suppose I celebrate Christmas because it has always seemed like a miraculous season. When creation sleeps under blankets of snow...to new life in the spring.
Perhaps its just the fact that another year is passing and the time Christ will return is even closer at hand, how good it is to spend moments with family and friends in anticipation of the sound of the trumpet!

The Shepherds would take the sheep out in the spring time and bring them back at the beginning of October, before the snow covered the greenary. Another tradition that is not Biblical, are the three wise men, the Bible never mentions anything about three wise men. What it does say is there were three gifts in Matthew 2:11 “And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.”

There is never a mention of three wise men or three magi. More traditions of men that are not Biblical, but people say it like it is Gospel truth. Trying to figure out the exact year is another story, but there is Biblical marking that history tells us when it was. So if you would like to know you can do a historical and Biblical search that will give you a good source for the date.

As far as the wise men goes,,,try to find something about the Maggi. Otherwise, you appear to near a re-read of your Bible.

The Bible mentions magi,or wise men,it does not give a number.The number is assumed because three gifts are mentioned.

Yes I too like to get together with family, and friends both in church and not and celebrate the Christmas season and the reason for the season... I also love to post these verses of scripture and most Christian who see it say: I didn't know that was in the Bible... About the Christmas tree?... Make what you will of it... Brother Glen:)

I see these verses taken out of context often.This is not talking about a Christmas tree,its talking about wooden idols.

Is. 40-With whom, then, will you compare God?
To what image will you liken him?
19 As for an idol, a metalworker casts it,
and a goldsmith overlays it with gold
and fashions silver chains for it.
20 A person too poor to present such an offering
selects wood that will not rot;
they look for a skilled worker
to set up an idol that will not topple.


Is.44-He cut down cedars,
or perhaps took a cypress or oak.
He let it grow among the trees of the forest,
or planted a pine, and the rain made it grow.

It is used as fuel for burning;
some of it he takes and warms himself,
he kindles a fire and bakes bread.
But he also fashions a god and worships it;
he makes an idol and bows down to it.

From the rest he makes a god, his idol;
he bows down to it and worships.
He prays to it and says,
“Save me! You are my god!”

Now,I can't speak for everyone,but Im pretty sure bowing down to a Christmas tree and saying "save me,you are my god" is not part of the holiday tradition. The Bible was talking about wooden idols,not Christmas trees.
 
The Irish have a custom, of mourning when a child is born into this sinful world of certain pain and sorrow, and celebrating when that person dies to be reunited with their Maker. I find it interesting that it is a largely a worldly tradition to celebrate the birth of Christ into the flesh of man, when as Christians we more celebrate His death and resurrection, while mourning the cause of His incarnation, for it is our sinful selves that put Him on the cross. The flesh as Jesus sad, counts for nothing. Yet still we rejoice in His love for us, and His triumph over sin and death on our behalf, that we may escape the second death, being reconciled to God and attaining to a life more abundant through His resurrection. In Him is the light and life of men. I pray this Christmas brings immeasurable peace and joy to those who find the Truth in Him.

I understand that is or would be hard to do. I stopped celebrating Christmas and it was a little bit of a struggle with adult children as they were all use to it being done, getting their gifts, and the dinner. So to have little ones and stop I would image how hard that would be. I feel for you. I will pray for you to find the answers.

This is something that you really need to seek God over. Seek his truth, pray about it, I would suggest fasting as well.
In the end what really matters is what God wants us to do.

If you are having conviction about it, it possibly is the Holy Spirit trying to guide you to the truth. You might not have your answer today, or before this Dec. 25th. But seek God for answers.

May God reveal the truth to you and may He bless you and your family!

I'm sure you did not really mean that. Anyhow, if Christ was born in early September (which is the most likely time), He would have been conceived in the January of that year. December 25 was hijacked from the pagans.

When God called me, 31 years ago, few Christians knew that Christmas was pagan, but today -- thanks to the Internet -- almost everybody knows that. Pastors must be having a hard time explaining away Christmas.

Those pesky PAGAN Wise Men sought to bring GIFTS of gold, frankincense and myrrh to the infant Jesus! Were they following a PAGAN STAR TOO?

Actually those wise men had seemingly turned their backs on paganism, and the proof is in the fact that they brought those gifts to worship the King. Chances are that they had already put their faith in the living God and believed the Torah and its prophecies concerning Messiah. No pagan would make a journey of at least a thousand miles under difficult circumstances to bring costly gifts to someone whom they did not worship.

Luke 2:21
On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.

he was conceived Dec 25., born probably Sept. 29th
