What I don't understand is if there are enhanced states of mind and awareness, why are Christians banned from it? If we are capable of being telepathic, didn't God make it that way?
As for Tarots, and Ouija boards (some kind of mediumship) the Bible is against seeking people who are attuned to that, but what about communing with spirits personally, where does this fit in? "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world." So it's ok to talk to spirits then, but in what form? Talking to spirits IS mediumship. Maybe what is wrong is talking to spirits FOR other people.
The whole Ouija board thing, I can't help but think it is somewhat psychological, which is why it affects young people more than older people. If you suspend your disbelief, or decide to believe in something because of many phenomena, then you can make yourself believe anything. If you believe it is demonic, then demons is what you will get. Interesting perspective of communing with angelic spirits. "Surely" if your intent is to speak to good spirits, good spirits is what you get? If it comes from light, and need for "upliftment" (that is the key word), light is what you get. If it comes from dark, a need for "something to happen", or a need for power, dark is what you get. Going to a medium for help, well that comes under one of those, feeling powerless.
I have my own form of mediumship, which I call mind writing. I was inspired by Neale Donald Walsch who wrote the Conversations with God series (the movie was brilliant). He said when you realise God is always talking to you, then you can talk to him. Christians often talk about talking to God all the time, isn't this the same thing. The only thing I am doing is writing down the conversations.
The question is whether one knows whether a spirit is good or bad. It's not too hard to figure that out, but if you are naïve, it's like taking sweets from a stranger and trusting them because of that, or asking someone if they are Christian and trusting them by that (so many naïve Christians do that!)
