On my way home tonight I was driving on an old country road (I didn't want to get pulled over due to a headlight being out) I was going up an incline....being in 5th gear, my clutch goes out. I find myself going backwards and my emergency brake doesn't work to stop. I was outside in the freezing cold for three hours with no cell service. Every horror movie raced through my head. Anyone else have a terrifying story that happened to them to share?
I can think of a couple of horrifying nights for me, but I can guarantee I'd bring the mood of this thread down in a hurry. BUT I will give away the endings.

Story 1:
I lived. I shouldn't have, but the Lord wasn't done with me yet.

Story 2:
Hubby lived. He shouldn't have, but the Lord wasn't done with him yet either.

(Just to make up for you not ending your story. lol)

You really can't tell a story well. You forgot to end it. You left me on "going backwards and my emergency brake doesn't work to stop."

Now, obviously, you survived, but what happened next?

Yes continue...

I've never been terrified.

You should get a new car.
You're a cop, right? Unless you work in Mayberry RFD, I'm not buying you've never been terrified. You kept moving forward, but surely some part of you was terrified.

On the way home from a play in downtown Minneapolis a bunch of teens, all from the same family, were in my van. While we were at the play, it had snowed.

We were on the third freeway entrance lane up from the freeway far below. I did not know they had not salted the lane, until I turned the wheel (on a gentle turn), and the van went straight. The van came to the edge, then just gently slid down . . . . on its side! . . . onto the next freeway entrance below, where it lay on its side. Fortunately, the lane was empty.

I panicked, not knowing who was hurt, so I stood up and yelled, "FIRE! EVERYBODY OUT!" Everyone unbuckled and got out, and the only one who was hurt was one whose ring scraped her other finger.

That was my worst.
Was the car on fire? AND, if it wasn't, did anyone kick you for yelling fire, when they're was no fire?

Personally, even if the van goes gently onto its side, I'm going to lie there quietly, until my stomach catches up with the van. It might take a minute to get my wits back, but I want that minute. And if someone yells "Fire" when there is no fire, I'm going to be annoyed. lol

(I'm whispering this, so Tommy doesn't hear, but have you ever noticed guys always want to make sure women are doing everything right with the car right after something goes wrong with it? It's up there with they have to gather together to talk directions on how to travel, if travel is more than three hours of driving. It's like suddenly the driver just might forget how to drive, so let's just check. BUT, God bless them. Their fix-it gene is so attached to them. This is what they do. lol)

I have never really had any terrifying experiences. Yet. So far, so good.

I think the worst day of my life was when I found out my parents were splitting. The whole framework of my world cracked and fell apart. That wasn't really terrifying though.
I lost 13 pounds the day Mom left Dad. And I lost 7 pounds the first day at college when I had to pick courses out of a book with absolutely no idea what I was doing.

That's what my body does to me when something very stressful happens. I do not under-estimate anyone going through parent's divorce.

Well since depleted would like a "full true terrifying story" I have a few but one particularly comes to mind of a scary night I had years back...
Back when I was living in Blount County,me,my uncle, and other family, lived in a trailer and my cousin noticed a stray cat living under it and took it in naming it "monster"(no idea why) kind of a brownish and straggly looking cat,she also had a parakeet in our room "she got the bed" "I got the floor",anyways one night it was dark and very quiet and I was the only one home I think not sure(believe it or not was left alone alot)and the lights were off and there was a storm outside and it was weird,I couldn't find her cat,but when I checked my room the bird was freaking out and I looked closely at the cage and there on the cage "attached with claws" was the cat and I think I called for someone to come get the cat,but it really creeped me out!

As public property, I'm expected to be infallible, fearless, beyond reproach, and absolutely wrong when being complained upon.

My brother's caiman (kin to gator) had one of my brother's big fat bullfrogs in its mouth. All I saw was the frog's feet pumping. The rest was in the caiman's mouth. Ran inside, got a broom, and spent the next 15 minutes chasing the caiman around the turtle pen until he upchucked the frog. Then another five minutes chasing the caiman so the frog could do what it should have already been doing -- hide from the caiman.

Both lived until brother came back to town. lol

Assumed infallible, but infallible does not stop bullets from hitting you, knives from stabbing you and large heavy objects from being aimed at you, and all because someone doesn't want to spend two years in prison, so they do something that gives them 20 years to life instead, and kills you.

No, it was not, but I feared it could easily catch on fire because of its position. Also, I thought it was excusable to lie (then!) in order to get all the people out, to see who was hurt.

Personally, even if the van goes gently onto its side, I'm going to lie there quietly, until my stomach catches up with the van. It might take a minute to get my wits back, but I want that minute. And if someone yells "Fire" when there is no fire, I'm going to be annoyed. lol
But what a relief it was for everyone, to find that no one was seriously hurt. Fortunately for me, no one was hurt.

It was a very cold Minneapolis night, however, and we were so cold, waiting for the police. It was about 45 minutes after the accident before they got there.

If you want scare and fright then watch the classic Aussie fright movie of em all...
Wolf Creek
You'll fix your clutch straightaway.
Way too scary for any Godly Christian to watch - I could hardly handle the trailer
without having to thank the Lord that I wasn't in a broken down car in the middle of nowhere.

A short war story; 1970 Cambodia, (we were not suppose to be in Cambodia). 300 US Army troops were inserted into Cambodia to extract a company of 101st Airborne Rangers (About 50 Rangers), who were pinned down under heavy enemy fire from 2 regiments (2000 enemy troops), of NVA, (North Vietnamese Army), We were about to lose 50 of our elite fighting force.

Phantom Jets and our forward guard pushed back the NVA, and all of the Rangers were brought out of harms way, they lost we won end of story. All of this is a verifiable event that is now in public domain, you can find it with a simple google seach.

Point, we have without a doubt one of the finest fighting forces on the planet.

And if I am criticized for this post well so be it. It is better to tell of your frightening experience rather than keep it all bottled up.

God bless

I've only been stabbed once. It wasn't that bad. Been cut across my knuckles once, that hurt. Been shot at a couple of times, only hit once by shotgun pellets, was so far away, didn't have much energy to hurt me.

I like the fight. It feels good to bleed a bit. It usually happens over something minor.

Where I work at, back up is in your holster, help is 30 minutes away.

When I'm terrified, I'll let you know. This time of year, I'm always hoping for a deranged Santa.

Thank you for serving over there... because of guys like you, I missed the draft by a few months. It was abolished just before I turned 18. I didn't want to do like the Bellamy Brothers sang... go to Viet Nam on my senior trip....

You vets have my total respect and thanks.

I Love the people who did not have to go, I always say you all were covering the home front. I was a draftee and upon my return they issued my lottery number according to our birthday. My #was 365, I never would have gone if the lottery was in effect.....:)

God bless and thanks for your good wishes.

Well, when I was 16, my birthday came up as Lottery #1. When I was 17, I think it was about #12 or so. I was really sweating it. They did the lottery for my 18th birthday year, and I was way up in the 200's somewhere, so I very likely would not have been drafted... but they abolished it anyway, and started winding things down. I was glad.

I knew quite a few guys that went...older brothers of friends of mine... I had an older half-brother that was over there, but I didn't know him at the time.
