What was the greatest invention of all time?

I thought about it and at first, I decided the computer chip was it but now after watching my favorite TV show I change my mind. I think the invention of fictional TV series programs top the list. When I watch one of these programs I role play and become one of the character’s in the show. By doing this I experience feelings from different points of view that would not be possible in real time with real people. I believe this has helped me cope with the real world in the here and now; so, the invention of TV is my choice.

What is your choice?
 
The invention of music. What would television be without the background music? Just people talking.

Actually, a lack of music or background noise can make a strong point in a movie, so I'm not sure that's 100% true. Regardless, the world would be pretty boring without music. And for myself I would have no way to really express my deeper thoughts and feelings if it weren't for the ability of writing them down as lyrics and music notes.

Agreed. I was going to say, "Grace!".

Then I re-thought it, because grace is an expression of God's character, and so was not an "invention".

In terms of human inventions, I think the printing press is certainly at or very near the top, as are the internal combustion engine, telephone, microchip, and steel (not being a naturally-occurring metal). I think others in the top twenty might be magnetic recording tape, eyeglasses (and with them, the telescope and microscope), the fork, the plow, hybridization of crops, harnessed electricity, the incandescent bulb, the aeroplane, the sextant, and the spring-driven chronometer (clock), the electromagnetic scope (oscilloscope, television), pasteurization, and the radio. Honourable mentions include the cotton gin, the weaving loom, the potter's wheel, the refrigerator/freezer, the loudspeaker, the radial saw, fibre-optic cable, and the seed drill.

I would have to go with something pretty basic like the invention of writing.
 
Didn't we have a thread similar to this? Because I remember posting to it saying Men. That's my story and I'm sticking to it :p
