What do folks here think?

And, as a side topic to this question...

Is it good morals to have a preconceived notion?

Depends on one's interpretation of the book. Not all Christians agree that Revelation was meant to be a book predicting the future.

I personally believe that the question reflects a lack of understanding of the authority of Scripture.

I believe that it is a presumption of genuine faith that the authority of Scripture is incontrovertible.

Depends on if you can "handle" having a "judgement day",if a person fears to be judged they'll probably ignore revelations where as if a person trusts in Jesus they'll be ready for his return and know it is true.

No. All of God's Word is true.

It's not about what we think, for what we think doesn't change Biblical truth. It's really about what God thinks, & alotta people don't seem to care about what He thinks anymore.

Eisegesis isn't allowed when interpreting scripture, so preconceived notions aren't worth the paper they're written on.

I'm not sure you could have come up with two less-related questions!

Anyway, regarding Revelation, no. It's the word of God. Some people's interpretations of Revelation may well be false though.

Your second question is a non-sequitur. They are unrelated concepts. Morals have to do with your core sense of right and wrong. For most people, morals are founded largely on the Ten Commandments: don't kill, steal, lie, or sleep around, and honour your folks. Christians who seek to honour God with their lives find that the Holy Spirit becomes their inner guide as to what is morally acceptable and what is not. That's why Jesus "expanded on" the commandments in His sermon on the mount (Matthew 5 - 7; also in Luke). The letter of the law is inadequate for every imaginable situation, but the Holy Spirit is more than wise enough to guide us in paths of righteousness.

As to whether it's wise to have preconceived notions, we all have them about many issues. What we do with those has significant consequences though. If we constantly live and act as though our PN's are correct, we will likely seem arrogant and unteachable. Better to approach each issue with a willingness to learn, the certainty that we don't know everything about it, and the humility to recognize that we may be wrong and need to change our position(s).

I know that probably 97% of people read The Apocalypse (Revelation) with a preconceived notion. I know that I sure did.... for about four and a half decades.

The Book of Revelation is the inspired Word of God... And it will all be shown to be correct in the future..

But i agree with the point others have made in this thread.. That the interpretations of men of what the Book of Revelation means are often not to be trusted..

What warning does The Messiah The Living Word, say to Christians ?

Rev 2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

(If ANYONE tells you to avoid Christ's teachings, and then you listen to them, you've lost.
They are robbing you.

Read about the Churches in revelation who take a attitude they know best. Christ will fight against them. They wont be Christian for long after Satan is through with them )

Either listen to Christ's words and receive His blessings , or don't call yourself a Christian because only curses of the world remain for you.

Christ did not have time to waste for wayward Christians to undermined His efforts ; to bringing Gods Truth..

But that does not stop people from spreading confusion and lies in the name of Christ .

Mark 13:5 And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:
6 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Is The Book of Revelation a False Prophecy?

This is like asking whether the Bible is Divine revelation or just a collection of human writings.

The very first verse tells you that the Revelation is the Word of God. It matters not how it is interpreted, or by whom.
Is it good morals to have a preconceived notion?
Preconceived notions have nothing to do with morals. But it is not good to have preconceived notions about anything.

the thread title is just ridiculous. :p

Is it good morals to have a preconceived notion?
this one is more fun.

morality that has not been preconceived is situational ethics.

no, it is not morally good. sin is sin and it doesn't become not-sin just by being committed in a certain way or at a certain time or in a certain place.

sure, you can devise some situation where a choice has to be made between two evils. but that doesn't make a lesser evil "not evil"
sure, you can imagine a circumstance where someone else will do evil if you do good, and do good if you do evil. it may present you with a dilemma but it doesn't make your evil good.

situational ethics is lack of absolute morality. it's nihilism, and it's at best amoral.

Martin Luther thought it was and dropped it from his Bible. It was reinstated after his death.

My view though is that there is no way it can be false. The number of references to the OT alone makes it genuine. Nobody could have had the patience and expertise to create it without guidance from the Holy Spirit.

Considering a book that says "blessed is he who read the words of the prophecy of this book and those who hear it and take to heart the things written in it." And the fact that there are curses for adding to and taking away from the prophesies of this book, I would say that it would not be a smart idea to remove it from God's cannon of scriptures.

I would also say that removing Revelation from God's word would definitely constitute taking away from the words of that prophecy.

I was flipping through channels many years ago and I happen to stop on a church broadcast. The pastor started off by saying, "I have determined that we will no longer be concerned about the book of Revelation, as it puts to much of the fear of God into the congregation."

I was just amazed and dumbfounded at his announcement to say the least.

When you arrive at a cliff edge, you had better have a preconceived notion that you will fall off if you keep walking forward. It's for your own good.

And considering there is a curse for anyone who changes the words, throwing it out entirely may be hazardous to one's spiritual health.

The Book of Revelation is Scripture. The many interpretations are NOT.

I'm not really concerned with interpretations. If you want to study it you study it.

It's..................

"The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave
him to show his servants what must soon take place."

The unveiling of Jesus. Nothing could be more exciting.

You can always check out the history of it. Most of it already happened in the first century A.D.
