A couple months ago, I ordered a pair of pants online. I picked them for several reasons, including the fact that they had pockets. I’ve been burned in the pocket department before, buying pants with fake pockets or unusably shallow pockets or no back pockets...I learned my lesson, always watch for pockets.

A few days later, the pair of pants (and a sweater...and boots...) arrived on my porch. Hurray! I love clothes shopping online! So I tried on the pants, they were AWESOME, perfect fit, right length, exactly as I’d hoped they’d be.

And then I went to test out the pockets.

And I died a little inside.

The pockets aren’t even deep enough to store my chapstick. I could barely hook my thumbs into them. Suffice it to say, I was devastated. All my pocket hopes, dashed yet again.

That same day, my husband bought a new winter coat and a nice Indiana Jones style hat. As he was showing them to me, I noticed something...pockets on the coat. I mean, you expect that, sure, but THIS coat had not just two, or four pockets- no no, there are pockets hidden all over this thing. I was feeling a little jealous at this point, but I contained it so he could show me his hat.

You will not believe this, because even I didn’t believe it when I was looking right at it- this hat? It has a pocket.

WHY?!

So! Fast forward to tonight, where I had mostly forgotten about the Pocket Incident. We were sitting here together, watching Cops, and the officer was searching this guy’s- you guessed it- pockets. He pulled out a bag of drugs, and something in me just...broke. I said,

“I can’t believe this! Dude is fortunate enough to have pockets and he’s abusing them! Improper use of a pocket!”

My husband looked at me like I was crazy- fair enough, I felt a bit on the crazy side. So I continued, “If women have to march for something, they ought to be marching for pockets on their clothes. Equal pocket rights!”

...and this is the story of why my husband had me committed...

Kidding! But seriously, how insanely frustrating is it that so many women’s clothes are simply not as functional as men’s? I don’t get it, and I’m tired of having to carry my purse around for just a few small items that COULD fit in my pocket...if I had one.

Ladies? Do you have this problem? If you don’t, where do you buy your pock- I mean clothes?

Guys? I hope you’re all properly grateful for your multitude of pockets.

This is true; however, pants can be close-fitting and still have at least one usable pocket on them. But maybe this is just a divisive topic for women- some of us want change (and pockets to store it in) and some of us don’t mind being pocket oppressed.

I mean...I see your point, but I feel like expecting pockets on pants that appear to have pockets isn’t unreasonable :p And, it’s not so much that I have high expectations, but more that I have low motivation for shopping.

You ladies have caused your own misfortune in this area. Men's clothing has real pockets because we USE THEM whereas most women have a love for carrying around large totes instead of utilizing the pockets that God gave them. Just like unused muscles atrophy and wither away, women's pockets have all but vanished.

Use it or lose it baby!!!

That’s a fair point about the totes- a giant bag is far more suitable than a pocket when it comes to carrying around certain items; handguns, entire boxes of Kleenex, an extra pair of shoes, a decorative chihuahua...

And! It shouldn’t matter whether we actually Use our pockets or not, the point is that we are positive we need them and we demand the right to have as many empty pockets as we want! And by ‘we’, I mean me.

One day I went to this event and was carrying my DSLR camera and a bottled water and it started getting hot and I didn't want to hold the bottle anymore so I tried to see if it would fit in the pocket of my shorts.... and it did! :D

This is just confusing- I want to be angry that you have pockets, but I also know the tragedy of having to actually Hold things when you don’t want to and so I’m also happy that you didn’t have to suffer :p [/FONT]

Solution : Boyfriend Jeans.

PS - To be honest, though I like jeans, if I can wear sports leggings instead, I would go for them. They are far more comfortable!
I don't think guys can carry off the yoga pants look, so the inequality of pockets balances out.

The sports collections from VSX, Popflex and Sweaty Betty have pockets so you can put your phone in and even zip them up.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was thinking as I read through this thread.

In fact I hear women all the time criticizing men for all the stuff they keep in their pockets. (Well we don't carry half a store around in a big handbag.) If a woman did have pants with real pockets, and if she used those pockets like men use them, I bet she would get criticism too.

Sorry MissCris, modern women culture has really ruined it for your pocket aspirations. "Why would a woman need pockets on her clothes when she carries a purse?" And so many women depend on their purses and have a different purse to coordinate with every clothing outfit... modern culture just doesn't see a need for pockets on womens clothing.
