why .. if we all love one man, follow Him, cherish Him, love Him, are there so many debates and arguments about His word? Are we not all in the same boat so to speak? Cant we all love Him and cherish His word together?

Read the Gospel of John with a different bent this time. Notice how many times crowds followed Jesus, and then with just a simple one or two liner, crowds left Jesus.
There are a lot of people who think they're Christians who aren't.
And for the rest? Exactly what did he mean when he said we should eat his body and drink his blood? Everyone has a theory, but it's hard to figure it out no matter what he meant, even loving and cherishing him.
If you would look more carefully through the entirety of "the word", you would find that Christ's followers have always had the responsibility, and duty, to "contend for the faith", and debate sound doctrine.
Christ even did this.
He often argued and debated with the scribes and pharisees, about how to "interpret" various passages of the word.
So if Christ himself had to reason, argue, and debate... and you want to be a follower of Christ... maybe you need to rethink your duties.
nope, that's not what I'm saying. you are all so quick to jump and judge others on here, I've read it myself and it has really surprised me, to me, that isn't Christian like, like who are we and who are you to make assumptions. yes talk about your differences but argue over what we treasure, this will never make sense to me.

I know what you mean Lizzie. I tend to steer clear of the Bible discussion forum. Things can get quite heated over there. Many of us (Christians that is) feel the need to expound on certain subjects, while others just like a lively debate. Others (very few) tend to get pushy. Yet in the midst of all these human interactions, somehow, they all come away from the fray a little wiser. You and I are those who would see our brothers and sisters sit and "reason one with the other" in love and kindness. Sadly, yet understandably, this is not a perfect world. But who would want a perfect world...........BORING....I tend to believe that God has His guiding hand on this Christian dogpile and that at the end of the day His children still love each other......AMEN.......Stan
Jesus himself foresaw this Christianity of many boats.

Discipleship, faith, doctrine are complex issues.
I was raised Roman Catholic and had a strong allegiance to the RCC.
One day I read a Pentecostal testimony to being born again by water baptism
and Holy Spirit baptism with the evidence of speaking in a new tongue.
Then came miracles of healings and a new way of living for the gospel.
I was certainly challenged.
I had to pray to Jesus for guidance and for him to lead me to his
truth. Did he want me to leave the RCC and embrace this full gospel
that I could read in the scriptures.
I sought my faith and church directly from my Lord himself.

Well lizzie-marie, something so important as the only hope anyone has of everlasting life, is bound to be perverted, hidden, twisted, turned and muddled by Satan. God played a trick on us: He put this desire for everlasting life into our hearts and then backed away. Then Jesus came and made a way. In the first century church the message was unadulterated. Enter antichrist: the way becomes muddled again. 1 John 2:18: "Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time."
Many scriptures were locked up until this time right before Christ's next coming. Today, with our computers, is what God said would happen in the last days. Daniel 12:4: “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Is is up to our generation to unscramble His message.

Hmm I don't know about that, from my calculations Jesus outwitted them everytime that they spoke ill of him when teaching or going about his way or business so really I think it was "no competition"!
When we are all in the same boat rowing, and we see another or others rowing in the wrong direction, it is natural, our new nature to save those folks from error.............Jesus knows who is rowing in the right direction, and so do His own.....this too may lead to debate, but it would be an honest one.
Two cannot walk together unless they are in agreement.....the word of God does one of two things....it draws you to a closer walk with the Lord or it drives you away and increases your accountability.....at the end of the day there is one central truth concerning EVERYTHING to be found in the word.....and as long as this earth contains, lost men, saved men of every level of maturity and people who are religious without knowledge there will be this divisive, contentious spirit that raises it's ugly head on a regular basis.....

Two things completely unrelated:
1. "You are all so quick to jump and judge." Ummm, one person said something to you, and you disagreed heatedly by jumping and judging all. Got to ask? Isn't that exactly what you were asking about and then just did it to you?
2. You really do know how folks can argue over the same treasure. May I assume you grew up with family in the same house? Didn't everyone consider the house a treasure? Didn't they all argue about what should be done in that home anyway?

IDK, but we all do it anyway.
A couple of decades ago, I tried with all might power to understand why someone -- anyone -- would ever want to be a Democrat. Never did get it. Doesn't mean I hate them for becoming Democrats. I just don't get it anymore than I get why people will play golf. I'm good with some things may never make sense to me, but it doesn't mean it doesn't happen anyway.

Right,you do not see people arguing over Dr. Suess,Green eggs and ham,and say it is blue eggs and steak,or it is green peas and chicken.
So what is up.
The Bible is more complex than that,and many people interpret the scriptures according to the flesh,and drag beliefs that are not part of the Bible in to it,and it becomes their foundation for interpreting scriptures.
Not all people believe the whole of the Bible,but they all like the eternal life,and benefits part.
The Bible is the most misinterpreted book in the history of mankind,and the most popular,for Islam believes it has truth,but not all of it,and Buddhists will interpret it according to their religion,and Hinduism the same,and all religions the same,and the occult will interpret it according to the occult,and the prejudice according to prejudism.
The Bible has cast doubt in to the mind of the world that many people believe it has truth,although they might not believe all of it is interpreted correctly,and the world appears to be scared of it,and many people say I do not know if it is true,but we will find out,or I have doubt but I will not go against it in case it is true.
Like when the Pharisees sent officers to take Jesus and they came back empty handed,and the Pharisees said to the officers,why did you not arrest Him,and they said no man spoke like this man before,which Jesus cast doubt in their mind,and they said we better leave this man alone,for if He is telling the truth we do not want to be going against God.
And so the Bible casts doubts in the mind of the world,and they think we better leave this book alone for if it is true we do not want to be going against God.
What to do,what to do.
But then comes along the new age movement and their interpretation of the Bible,which God warned us about the new age movement,and one day they will be the religion of the world,for the time will come when the world will not want to endure the truth of the Bible,but want to hear it according to the new age movement,based on the occult,nature worship,witchcraft,spiritual evolution through nature,and people can still evolve,and Jesus is not Lord and Savior but a good teacher in spiritual enlightenment,and an ascended master,that does not acknowledge a personal God,but honors the God of forces,or the power of nature as their higher power.
The new age movement interpretation of the Bible is the beginning of the end,and when the nations come together to try to establish peace on earth,the new age movement will be a unified religious system with all religions interpreted that way,and religion is about evolution through the power of nature to be greater than their current position,and any beliefs being taught other than that like a personal God will be a hate crime,and Christianity will rapidly decline in impacting the world with the truth.
It is the time for God to end this sin business on earth after they rebel against Him.
Now the doubt is gone,no God to fear,no God to offend,Jesus is not Lord and Savior,but an ascended master,and they will be too when the Christ conscience comes on them.
There are many different interpretations of the Bible because some people drag a belief in to the Bible that is not supposed to be there,and interpret scriptures that way.
When the Roman Empire embraced Christianity it is obvious they did not get rid of their religious ways,but held unto them,and it became their foundation for interpreting scriptures.
Joseph Smith has a belief that was not part of the Bible,Mormon,Scientology,Christian Science,and so many others that are in grave error had a belief that was not part of the Bible and interpreted scriptures that way.
Because the Bible is the most popular book,and more complex than a simple book,and the flesh does not like to hear it according to the truth of it,and people drag beliefs that are not part of the Bible in to it,so it is the most misinterpreted book ever in the history of mankind.
But to all the people that claim a personal God,and Jesus as Lord and Savior,and have a good grasp on the Bible so they do not have any of the serious beliefs of the world dragged in to it can still argue over truth,but it can be like the millennial reign is it literal or symbolic,does this earth still go on,or does it end and there will be a new earth,and such things.
But even among them there are many that interpret the scriptures according to the flesh and that is a big error,which they say they cannot abstain from sin,but if a person hates sin,and does not want sin,by the Spirit they can abstain from sin,and they say that sin does not affect their relationship with God,but the Lord knows them that are His having this seal,that everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity,and awake to righteousness,and sin not,but not all have the knowledge of God,and Paul speaks that to their shame.
But there is no excuse for they can be led of the Spirit,and we have a choice between good and evil,so if they do evil they could of chose the good,and we are not forced to sin.
So why do they want to believe that way,which is the reason for much hypocrisy,and the people saying they are hypocrites.
If they say they cannot abstain from sin,and sin does not affect their relationship with God,there is going to be a lot of hypocrisy,and not acting Christlike going on.
That is a big problem and debating about that for some people that claim a personal God and Jesus as Lord and Savior.
And we see it in America a lot where many who claim Christ will be involved in money,and material things,and worldliness,which the Bible talks against that behavior,but they think they are alright,but the last generation they shall be pure in their own eyes but not washed away from their filthiness,for they hold unto sin thinking they are alright with God.

But why all the squabbling? It seems to me that when a matter of interpretation comes up, each person should point to scripture and explain why they interpret it the way they do. Instead disagreements on CC are more like: "You're doing it wrong and you're a heretic!" lol
