A few types of baptism
Baptism of repentance - for Nation of Israel only: - Under the Gospel of the Kingdom message:
Baptism of repentance was John the Baptist ministry for the Nation of Israel only. A call of Repentance from breaking covenant with the LORD Jeremiah 31:32. Water baptism here is Jewish purification/cleasning doctrine preparing themselves for the soon coming prophesied & promised Messiah.

John the Baptist proclaimed:
Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptise you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptise you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire:
(NOTE: John Baptises with water. The coming Messiah will Baptise with the Holy Spirit & with fire)

Matt 3:11 & Luke 3:16, The baptism into Christ's body via the Holy Spirit. Is a covenant of spiritual circumcision. Done by Christ & only Christ. And done ""Sprituall""y without hands and without water.

Col 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision "made without hands", in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
(NOTE: A circumcision "made without hands")

NOTE: Translators Capitalized Spirit in the beginning & end of the 1 Cor 12;13 signifying deity/Godhead.

1 Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
(NOTE: Baptised by ONE SPIRIT the HOLY SPIRIT. Into one body, The Body of Christ. And no water is used)

Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism (SPIRITUAL)

Deut 30:6 (A) The LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart

Rom 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter (NOTE: Believers are indewlt by Christ with/in the Holy Spirit. A SPIRITUAL circumcision. Done without hands & without water)

The moment you accept/trust place your faith in Christ's redemptive sin atoning sacrifice. Foung in the death (sins wage paid in full), burial & resurrection (God's stamp, payment received) of God's Son, Jesus the Christ.

Eph 1:3 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed ""ye were sealed with that holy Spirit''" of promise
(NOTE: The gospel of your salvation is: You heard & believed/trusted. In the Redemptive Sin Atoning Sacrifice. Found in the death, burial & resurrection of Jesus the Christ. And were immediately Sealed with God's Holy Spirit)

14 Which is the down payment of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession
(NOTE: God's Holy Spirit dwelling within us is God's sealed down payment on our redemption. And soon Christ will redeem what he purchased on the cross)

Ephesians 4:30 Grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Believers are SEALED with God's Holy Spirit. It a pomise & a guarded the soon Christ will come for us)

New Testament Baptism in water:
Water baptism is an emblem of the true spiritual circumcision/baptism. Water baptism is an outwardly public profession of dying to sin, being buried (when we go under) and of being raised together with Christ in new spiritual resurrection life.

John 12:24 Verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground & die, "it abideth alone" "but if it die" "it bringeth forth much fruit"
(NOTE: One must die to self in order to bring forth good Godly friut. Faith & faith alone in Christ's payment is the only requirement for salvation)

No water was used ayt these baptisms either:

Mark 10:38 Jesus said can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
(Jesus is speaking of His baptism into death. No water is used)

1 Peter 3:20 talks about the days of Noah and eight souls were saved by water. They were inside the Ark. No water is used!

1 Cor 2:10 when the Nation passes through the red sea and were baptised into Moses. They crossed on dry land. No water is used!

Acts 1:5 (Temple Mt/Pentecost) John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. No water is used!

The baptism of Fire:
Fire is a symbol of judgment. See Isaiah 5:24, Isaiah 66:24. John the Baptist spoke of this: Its for unbelievers at the final judgment. Like the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, ONLY Christ the final judge can can baptize with an everlasting judgment.

No.

All baptism is for a person is an outward expression of faith.

Nothing more nothing less.
Please, show me the scripture.... or ANY scripture that says that.

Just personally, whenever Jesus gives an example - I want to do it the way He did. True, I can't get to the Jordan River but, I can get in some water publicly and go under and come up - just like Jesus. :)

No one here is denying baptism, or saying it is OK not to do it. I am with you, If jesus did it, I want to do it, Plus he commanded it, makes me want to do it more.

"John the Baptist proclaimed:
"Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptise you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptise you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire:
(NOTE: John Baptises with water. The coming Messiah will Baptise with the Holy Spirit & with fire)"

Does this mean that Jesus did not authorize the baptism in water for all the nations (Matt. 28: 18-20) in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit; to all creation, in all the world (Mark 16: 15, 16); to all that God shall call to Himself (Acts 2: 37- 39) ? Is the statement, "he who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved," true?

"Matt 3:11 & Luke 3:16, The baptism into Christ's body via the Holy Spirit. Is a covenant of spiritual circumcision. Done by Christ & only Christ. And done ""Sprituall""y without hands and without water."

Does the baptism into Christ and into His death count for anything? Is it necessary to die with Christ? (Rom. 6: 3-8) If we do not die with Him, can we expect to live with Him?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
God bless

This came up in another thread and I didn't want to move that thread off topic so I started another.

Is it required to be baptized in water?

Personally, I do not believe it is required.
is it required for what?

Please, show me the scripture.... or ANY scripture that says that.
But I don't have any scripture give to you on it.
Baptism, if you feel like you should do it, then do it.
But the one who baptizes us for real is the Lord Jesus Christ, by believing in Him.

About the thief on the cross not being baptized, this is what I understand...
Baptism is a participation in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.

Actually, Jesus died before the two thieves on the cross: John 19:32-33 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. (verse33) But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

In order to expedite the process of the crucifixion and insure the death of the victims suffering on the cross the soldiers would brake the legs of the individuals, which would prevent them from lifting themselves up in order to breath. The torment of the cross was far more than just the excruciating pain of the spikes in their hands and feet. They were also dealing with asphyxia, unable to breath due to the position of the body hanging from cross. The scripture quoted above revels that Jesus was already dead when they came to brake his legs. Which means the thief died in the new covenant.

The thief which was crucified with Christ was the first to repent, be baptized into Chris,t and arise with Christ into paradise. In the 6th chapter of Romans we learn that Baptism is symbolic of being buried with Christ. Jesus said, "I have a baptism to be baptized with and how am I straightened till it be accomplished" (Luke 12:50). We do the same; we repent, and are baptized with Christ into death, and receive the Holy Ghost as a token of the resurrection. When people use the thief on the cross as a reason to reject baptism it is vain deceit. Peter said, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38). Peter was given the keys to the kingdom of heaven so his authority is unquestionable. Peter said, "And ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." As far as speaking in a heavenly language I did when I received the Holy Ghost in 1973; it was my mouth but the articulation was from the Spirit of God. God always speaks through a person when he baptizes them with His Spirit.

In Acts 10:48 Peter commanded them to be baptized, but nobody is going to command you to do anything; right? you have it all worked out for yourself. As a matter of fact Peter promised people in Acts 2:38 that if they would do what he said that God would give them the Holy Ghost; I guess you don't need it or want it. Maybe you are barking up the wrong tree.

Ask yourself, if you are baptized washing away your sin symbolically with water, are you under the law? or are you following the example of obedience as did our Savior?

As for being necessary, I believe many are baptized by desire, that is, they fulfill the baptism in believing Jesus Christ........

I recommend baptism in order to be just like our Jesus, our King, our Salvation....but that is just what I believe.

M...,

The Bible is absent of scriptures which is needed to support your conclusion.

Suggest you look again....baptism is required....to finish the cleansing process.

Start your additional study with this one; ..."Repent and be baptized in order to receive the Holy Spirit".

Christ was baptized...why?...symbolic of the requirement. When asked by John..."Why"...He said...."for completion"...of what?...the cleansing process.

Many others.

if baptism is required. No one in the OT And many in the NT who were unable due to health are not saved.

Baptism is required one could say, But not in water, Of the HS.

I suggest you stop trying to earn your salvation. And start trusting in God to save you.

Romans the 10th chapter says that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. If our faith is founded on our own suppositions then it usually turns out to be just the opposite of faith in God's word. In the book of Acts when Paul was blinded by the sudden appearance of Christ, he went into the city and a prophet was sent to him and the prophet said, "why tarriest thou, arise and be baptized, washing away thy sins calling on the name of the Lord." In Act 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. In water baptism is where Paul called upon the name of the Lord for his salvation and it is where we call upon the name of the Lord today.

Personally, I do not believe it is required.
Personally I believe that what Peter said in Acts 2:38 is required. I also think that evidently he wasted his breath on you. I once ran into a man who had lung problems and the doctors gave him up to die they said that he would not last the night. He cried out to God with all of his heart and he said that God healed him long enough to come to church and be baptized calling on the name of Jesus Christ. I never followed up on his testimony, but I was there the night he gave his testimony. I think that often we sell God short because he is able to do anything the problem is that people ignore him until their last 15 min of life and think they can jump on the wagon, in this guys case he was literally able to do just that.

Trust?...suggest you follow your own advice. If you think G-d would be that unfair... then you have the trust problem...not I.

Study The Bible...baptism was not required for ..."completion"...of sin "cleansing"....under the OT...or Old Covenant.

Baptism is required one could say, But not in water, Of the HS.

Makes no sense to me at all.

With our King, there are certain allowances. I hear Him. People were instsructed to be baptised. I was given faith from the Father Wh led me to Jesus Christ. It was much later a brother in Christ insisted upon baptizing me, so I was sin the name of Jesus Christ calling upon Him to keepme always.

Now if you wish to reply to me, first hear what I posted. I believe people are also baptized by desire... Jesus is very personal. You my or may not be baptized but faith is always the first step.........how could it not be?

J...,

You suggest there is an option.

There is not.

The position of .... no baptism necessary.....once saved always saved...etc...came about in the 60 along with other new age religion stances. Even one which maintains that one cannot sin after repentance appeared.

When the kFather, Yahweh, brought me to Jesus Christ, it was His intervening in my life after my heart had been broken, and I turned to "You are who you are." That is how I prayed. He spoke to me, in a dream, and more. The following day, I realized God is everything and this realm is nothing.

Turning from the material, I simply said to Him as I walked across a quadrangle, "ñyou are It Ieverything.)"

At that instant His Spirit entered into me, and I knew all necessary for salvation in that moment. He said "Everything is going to be just fine." He led me to Jesus Christ. I shared and experienced many miracles those three years following all in the name of Jesus.........

Now, read my post and tell me I had said it is or is not necessary. I have shared to be like Jesus we are would be baptized.

I have also shared it is not necessary if impossible or not understoo to do so.

Now, keep your accusations of OSAS and whatever the opposing dogma is, for I believe in no denomination apart for believers being of the Faith of Abraham, as Jesus Christ teaches.

You, my friend are looking for an argument. I am not, so donot waste any more of my time with your ininformed-by-my-posts feigned response, for they are nto to what I have said.

All blessing in Jesus Christ.

Up which tree do you think I'm barking?

I am questioning his statement that minimizes baptism to simply some casual outward "show", when scripture never says that.

Too many scriptures tell us it is commanded/necessary/expected.... use whatever adjective you wish.... for someone to say, "well, in my opinion, it's only for show".... I want to see scripture that supports that opinion.

It is too important to be minimized or trivialized into the realm of "it's not that big a deal"....
