I reject and criticize what I consider a dummed down, casual, approach to scripture that suggests that whatever any one reads as scripture is, ok.
I see you name yourself Studyman, and I can't reconcile that name with any thing goes approach to modern versions that disagree among themselves, create confusion, promote false doctrines and many other ills evident in todays churches.
From my perspective, and that is a perspective of a nobody who studied outside the influence of any religious franchise claiming Jesus as their Savior, I would say the truth is found in most if not all translations. I have found that most (I haven't read them all) translations teach that God is a Spirit, and the understanding of His Word is a Spiritual understanding given to some and withheld from others. I would be glad to show scriptures which support this but the thread isn't really about teaching, rather, translations.

I believe The Great God of Abraham, who came to earth as a man in the form of Jesus, can guide those who are truly seeking Him into all truth. If a person is seeking to "know Him" Jesus will let Himself be known. There are "many" who come in His Name, who use His Word as a tool for justification of their lifestyle, or religious traditions. In todays world we can "translation hunt" to find a Bible that we can more easily bend towards this religious tradition or that. But those who are from the heart, seeking to know Him, and not just confirm the religion we were born into, we have a promise given in most all translations that He will "manifest Himself" to us.
I think your obsession with translations is unhealthy. You basically condemned me as a fool for stated what is obviously the truth and didn't stop to ask what translation I use? Which BTW is the KJV. In it, we are taught to be careful of our judgments of others, especially others we know little or nothing about. Maybe if you spent more time actually studying the KJV instead of condemning folks who use other translations you might learn what it teaches. My point is God's Truth can be found in them all, and they all can be twisted to further religious traditions of men. If you can't grasp this truth, then your problem is within you, not me. I don't like modern Bibles either, but I know that God can use them, as He did the KJV, to lead us in all truth if we are truly seeking Him.

If we are just looking to belong to some religious social club, then it wouldn't matter what translation we used would it?. The quote "strain at a gnat, swallow a camel comes to mind".

The following is a statement as quoted in many different translations. I don't prescribe to your preaching that there is only one that God can use to instruct a humble seeker in all righteousness. I like the KJV, but it has it's misplaced comma's as well. A person who is seeking Him in truth will find Him. If you don't believe this, them you don't believe the KJV.

Philippians 3:8
KJV - Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

I wonder why the new versions didn't change the word dung to it's new updated perverse four letter word? I'm sorry but rubbish is not the same as dung. New version fail once more...

"Dung"
occurs 15 times in 15 verses in the NIV.

It also happens to be a fitting designation for the KJVO cult.

σκύβαλον "skubalon"

It means rubbish, things thrown to the dogs, refuse. It doesn't mean necessarily mean "poop."

Your NIV uses the word "garbage". Not even close.
In fact MY NIV uses the word rubbish. Garbage is an Americanism.
And rubbish is very close to what you are talking.

A dung heap was a rubbish tip.

In the context of a mechanical object I suppose those three words equate.

In the context of scripture those three words don't equate.
Thinking that different words equate is indeed, a casual notion.
The word of God is quick.
That word choice is destroyed and weakened by changing "quick" to "fast" or "speedily."
If you look closer at those words you will find one of them incorporates meaning that goes beyond the limitations of the others.
The Holy Bible tends to present a word that is not so limited in meaning.
And, the God is precise in his consistency of use of a word, which is why I remarked on numbers, and words as God uses them in his Holy Bible.
While the word, "quick" had the meaning of "alive" in the early 1600's, that meaning is rare at best in modern usage. To most readers, "quick" would mean "fast". The change in meaning renders the KJV less comprehensible. The other words don't have "limitations"; they simply don't have multiple (or archaic) meanings.

As to your last two sentences, show the evidence. The words in the KJV are what the translators chose, not "how God uses them", as God didn't dictate the KJV.

If we know God doesn't disallow diversity in quotes...then...does that mean that all diversity is good?

I see that God, by allowing diversity in his Holy Bible, is teaching us how to avoid the falsehoods found in other bibles claiming to be of God. Compare.
This is completely illogical. How you see it is consistent with your double standards.

The Holy Bible is the standarn, as the word, holy, signifies, and comparison against all other texts proves.
You are welcome to use it as your standard. I don't accept it as such, so your assertion of it as "the standarn (sic)" is invalid (as well as illogical). It is stubborn and silly to continue to assert it and expect it to be accepted, or to expect that arguments made on that basis will have any validity.

You're supposed to be able to take the ones in hotels, right?
When I was 17 I stole a Gideon bible from my hotel room in downtown LA. It was the only redeeming quality in that city. Since I was traveling cross-country I wanted to take a little bit of Jesus with me.
