Hello all,

I'm 47 years old and have been overweight all my life. I accepted Jesus into my life last year and at Christmas asked for his help in 2018 to finally banish the demons that were making me overeat. That was 8 weeks ago and in that time I've lost over 2 stone in weight and 5 inches off my waist size. I was inspired to read Galatians chapter 5 and led to verse 23 which covers self-control, which was what I lacked. Satan is never far away and whenever I feel tempted I look to the Lord for help, and he's looking after me well right now.

Has anyone else trodden this path and how have you got on ?

How could we possibly fail with God on our side :D

Best wishes

Stu

Well done;) Motivation is easy when you're making progress, and with God on your side how could you possibly not make progress ? That's certainly my experience anyway. I've been tempted on several occasions and when I do I think back to an interview on Sid Roth's show with Dr Michael Brown. Absolutely inspirational and if you haven't watched it yet I've put the link here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDpo0pFtvME&t=1458s

Congratulations on your weight loss!

I was 50lbs overweight ...that puts me in the obese category because I'm short...still have 20 very stubborn pounds to go.

It is very hard to lose weight in a 'food culture'. Tasty, cheap, nutrient-less food is everywhere. And everyone is eating it so my inner voice says 'well, they're eating it, why can't I?' Support groups really help...they're actually mandatory if you want to lose weight while everyone around you is gaining it.

I tried low-fat and lost my gall bladder. I guess if you don't use it, you lose it! I've gone to the low carb, healthy fat diet and am having success.

What is your strategy for losing weight?

What is your strategy for losing weight?
I need a strategy for gaining weight. My whole life I could eat anything I want, whenever I want, as much as I want and still not gain weight. The few times that I did gain a few pounds I eventually loss. My metabolism must be high or out of control. Perhaps this is a good problem to have.

I would rather have your problem ;).

Insulin is the fat storage hormone.. is your body maybe not producing enough insulin? People who don't make enough insulin have trouble putting on weight, no matter how much they eat. A fasting insulin test may help?

Are you losing weight without trying? Decreased appetite? Maybe a liver function test would show something?

A year ago, I lost my appetite for the first time ever. I'd always thought that would be a good thing...but no, it isn't. Had blood tests done and my liver enzymes were all out of whack. Doctor diagnosed a tick borne illness and an antibiotic cleared it up fast.

Our livers are actually one of the most important organs we have. I have fatty liver disease, that I think is being reversed. I certainly feel better since I've reduced my carb intake.

Thanks for that link! I've begun watching it. I've always thought this food addiction was mainly a spiritual thing; which our food culture makes worse.

God will help us do anything, as long as we surrender our own will to Him,
and allow Him to help us do and be what He desires for us...
