Boaz (the husband of Ruth, from the Bible) is defined as "swiftness". It actually means "strength is within him", (bo = in him, az= strength) and in Hebrew is spelled BET-VAV-AYIN-ZAYIN (although some people leave out the vav.)


I had to look up the meaning.

I don't even KNOW anybody named Boaz. I know a few bozos...
 
I'm always mystified by ladies looking for a Boaz. If you read the story Ruth basically had to go crawl into bed with him in public and propose before he was like oh yeah, it should be my responsibility to marry you and take responsibility for caring for you. Boaz was a kind and generous person of good character who valued good character in others, but he doesn't win so many points for taking initiative in my book. Boaz needed a good nudge before he even realized he was Ruth's Boaz.

Also please note, even though it is in the Bible, crawling into bed with a guy in public is not a dating method I support.

Although I certainly understand this rendering you have given, there is a LOT more to the story than Ruth begging for Boaz to take her.

The whole Book is an incredible simile to how Jesus Christ takes us to bride.

If you look at Naomi as a type of Israel, Ruth as a type of the Church, and Boaz as a type of Christ, the Book makes more sense.
