That's the question. :) Have the 10 commandments been done away with? Are we now free to lie, steal, kill, etc etc??? Bible verses would help greatly. :)

No, not abolished. He said He did not come to abolish them but to fulfill them, in each of us.

The way of following the law for righteousness is done away with. This does not mean He does not make us lawabiding in our hearts, because He certainly does, and the way He does is through trust, from start to finish.

Yes, the 10 commandments have been abolished or done away (same Greek word). The bible explicitly states that at least twice. That doesn't mean that there isn't law or commandments, though.

He causes us to obey Gods law, not in the old way, but in the new way.

Gods law to not murder has not been done away with or else how could Paul say: and we know no murderer will enter in?

Ten is a word number, like hundred or a thousand that represents the whole or perfect law of God. The whole Bible is the law of God. It contains no philosophical opinions or theories as private interpretations of men. If we try and limit it to ten, difficulties arise because of the cerimonial laws used as shadows.

The wage in respect to violating the letter of the law kills as it will continue to work to keep the moral influence until heaven and earth pass away . But the penalty as to the wage (eternal damnation) according to the Spirit of the word, the Spirit of faith has paid the eternal debt in full.

It becomes not according to the letter of the law as that seen, the temporal, but of the unseen faith of Christ as the one who performed the work of faith, or labor of His Love.

To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Rom 3:26

Two kinds of laws one seen the letter the temporal that kills, one that give new life eternal....the law of faith, the faith principle

We walk by faith acording to the prescription given to us freely by the doctor of our souls

2Co 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Paul was often talking about the spirit of the word to people. Some were not yet ready to see it in any but a human way, but those who were ready could grasp some of the spirit of what he said.

For instance, he was always saying things like...you know murderers and liars and and adulterers, etc., will not enter, but you who condemn them, why do you do the same things?

He was not talking about this church he was speaking to doing these things outwardly! He was talking about the spirit of the word there.

Not one jot nor tittle has been removed from the law. It remains to judge those who will stand before Him Who judges all at the end of this age, following the resurrection of all: those who are not covered by His shed righteous blood, those whose names have been blotted out of the Lamb's book of life, those who have refused His offer of grace and seek to enter on the merit of their own works, which are as filthy rags, will be judged by the law and found wanting. They will be judged by the law, and condemned by the law. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

The Ten Commandments and all other 603 rules have been replaced by the New Covenant. Nine of the commandments are, at least in principle, repeated in the New Testament, but the fourth one is not. That means: Christians are not supposed to keep the Sabbath as the Israelites did.

You have to obey Jesus. Moses' law was made for ungodly people. The law is good if it is used lawfully, ie, instruction in righteousness. It is not lawful to lead people into bondage to Moses' law.

But the end of the mandate is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a faith without hypocrisy, from which some have deviated, [and] have turned away into fruitless discussion, wanting to be teachers of the law, [although they] do not understand either [the things] which they are saying or [the things] concerning which they are speaking confidently. But we know that the law [is] good, if anyone makes use of it lawfully knowing that the law [is] not given for a righteous [person] but for the lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and totally worldly, for the one who kills his father and the one who kills his mother, for murderers, sexually immoral people, homosexuals, kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is opposed to sound teaching, 1 Timothy 1:5-10

All scripture [is] inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, in order that the person of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Scripture is quite simple on this:

Romans 13: 8-10: [h=3]Love Fulfills the Law[/h][SUP]8 [/SUP]Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. [SUP]9 [/SUP]The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,”[SUP][a][/SUP] and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”[SUP][b][/SUP] [SUP]10 [/SUP]Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

In fact Jesus enhanced each of the old commandment for example: Matt.5:21: 21You have heard that it was said to the ancients, ‘Do not murder,’ and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment.

So love goes above and beyond the ten commandments because it is all fulled by love which is the
higher way

The ten commandments weren't abolished, they were condensed into one commandment - love thy neighbor!

If you do that one, by default you do all ten.

If you are a follower of Yahshua/Jesus I would say no;

Mat 5:18, "I say to you; Unless heaven and earth passes away, one yodh; the smallest of the letters will in no way pass from the Law, until all things are perfected."

Revelation 21:1, "I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away."

Mat 22:37-40, "Yahshua said to him: You must love YHWH your Father with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. (Deut 6:5) This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Lev 19:18) On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

Mat 24:35, “Heaven and earth may pass away, but My teachings will not pass away.”

Luke 16:16-17, "The Law and the Prophets were until John, since that time the Kingdom of YHWH is preached, and every man is pressed to enter it. But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one yodh of the Law to fail."

However others preach differently;

John 5:43, “I have come in My Father's Name, but you do not follow Me. Let another come in his own name; him you will follow.”

Daniyl 7:25, "And he will speak great words against YHWH, and will wear out; mentally attack to cause to fall away, the saints of YHWH, and think to change times and Laws…"

Also ALL of the prophets and Law are not yet complete, Yahshua/Jesus still has to return as the conquering Lion;

Luke 24:44-46, “And He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all have to be fulfilled that were written in the Law, the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me

Daniyl 7:13-14, “I was looking in the night visions and saw One like the Son of Enosh, coming with the clouds of the heavens! And He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. And to Him was given rulership and preciousness and a reign, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His rule is an everlasting rule which shall not pass away, and His reign that which shall not be destroyed.”

Psalms 2:1-12, "2:1, "Why do the nations rage, And the peoples meditate emptiness? (Mat 4:25-26. See also Dan 2:44, Dan 7:13-28, Hag 2:22, Zec 14:9 and Rev 11:15) The sovereigns of the earth take their stand, And the rulers take counsel together, Against יהוה and against His Messiah, and say, Let us tear apart Their bonds, And throw away Their ropes from us.”"2:4, " He who is sitting in the heavens laughs, יהוה mocks at them. Then He speaks to them in His wrath, And troubles them in His rage, saying,"2:6, "“ But I, I have set My Sovereign on Tsiyon, My set-apart mountain. I inscribe for a law: יהוה has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have brought You forth. Ask of Me, and I make the nations Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth Your possession. Break them with a rod of iron, Dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel. And now, be wise, O sovereigns; Be instructed, you rulers of the earth. Serve יהוה with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son lest He be enraged, And you perish in the way, For soon His wrath is to be kindled. Blessed are all those taking refuge in Him.”

In the New Testament we go by the 2 greatest laws,love God,and love people,and all the law and the prophets hang on those 2 laws,and Jesus said a new commandment I give you that you love one another as I have loved you,and love works no ill towards their neighbor,therefore love is the fulfilling of the law,and charity,love in action is greater than faith,and the Lord knows them that are His having this seal,that everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Paul said we do not void out the law through faith,but we establish the law,and the law is spiritual,holy,just,and good.

Jesus took the physical ordinances of Israel out of the way,only leaving the spiritual laws of the Old Testament,laws of love,moral laws.

The ten commandments are laws of love towards God,and people,so they are not physical laws,but spiritual laws,and all spiritual laws must always be obeyed.

When the Bible says we are not under the law it does not mean that we do not have to obey the law,or we are let off the hook if we do not obey the law,unless we repent and not want it,but if we hold unto sin then it cannot be forgiven,for God will not take away what we hold unto,and then it is on our record.

Jesus said whatever is in the heart is what will come out,so if we think sin,and do sin,enjoying it,then that is what is in our heart contrary to what some people believe that they are clean despite their sins,but Jesus said they are not clean.

A Spirit led life will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh,for they have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts,and show the ways of the Spirit,and not the flesh,therefore they are not under the law,which means the law cannot touch them for prosecution.

Every time we sin we are back under the law,and led of the flesh,and not the Spirit,so we are not right with God until we repent of it not wanting that sin,and mean it.Not repent and then know you will do it later for that is holding unto the sin.

If we willingly sin after having the knowledge of sin,hold unto sin,then there is no more sacrifice for that sin,which means the blood of Christ cannot wash it away.

We cannot abstain from sin,and sin does not affect our relationship with God is false,for a Spirit led life can abstain from sin for they hate sin,and do not want sin,and God will not allow them to be tempted above what they able to endure,and will give them an escape from the temptation,and nobody forced us to sin but we sin on purpose,and then we want an excuse and say we cannot abstain from sin.

There is too many people claiming Christ that still want to live somewhat fleshy,and make excuses for what they do on purpose.

But all sin can be forgiven,but when we sin we are back under the law,until we do not want it anymore.

NO, but they have been reduced to just 2 in Christ....LOVE GOD LOVE your neighbor....and the condemnation of the law (big 10) has been nailed to the cross and alleviated for ALL who exercise saving faith into JESUS....

The LAW continues to do what it was designed to DO...IMPOSSIBLE to KEEP by MEN it condemns ALL as guilty.........

Short answer: NO. However, you are still free to lie, steal, kill, etc. and face the consequences.

The followers of the Most High;

Numbers 15:15-16, “One law is for you of the assembly and for the stranger who sojourns with you – a law forever throughout your generations. As you are, so is the stranger before יהוה. One Torah and one right-ruling is for you and for the stranger who sojourns with you.”

Exodus 12:47-49, “All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the Passover to יהוה, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. One law shall be to him that is nativeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourns among you.”

Nope, the whole law was a prophesy and prophesies are fulfilled, not kept. Unfortunately, the old folk (Israel) broke it- and this is where the prophesy thing is, because we (the new age Israel) are breaking it too. The Law is every word that comes out of the mouth of the Lord and it never passes until it is accomplished.

Mat 11:13For all theprophets and the Law prophesied until John.

Mat 5:
18For I tell you truly, until heavenand earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law untileverything is accomplished.

Matthew 24:35
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.
