OK... did that Yahoo article even mention the group of 1,000 illegals that are headed to the border as we speak? They made it clear that they plan on entering the US illegally and they are already somewhere in Mexico. Most are from El Salvador and some other country I can't remember. I bet Yahoo didn't even mention that because that is why Trump is sending troops.

Looks like a rerun of ...

How many illegals are allowed to stay in AU.........? Do they not turn away the boats that are full or if they make it ashore, feed them, give them water, medical attention etc. and then ship them right back to where they came from?

Or Mexico? You enter Mexico illegally, and they weld you in a cell before you can say uh-oh.

Nope. It won't solve the problem on its own.

I'm of a divided mind. On one hand, I despise military intervention. On the other hand, parts of the border are insane.

We have to think seriously about incentives if we're ever going to restore the Rule of Law in immigration.
I also doubt that it will do much good.

What are we going to do when a bunch of unarmed children start running towards the border being guarded by the National Guard, or even the Border Guards?

As long as we have greener pastures on the US side of the border, the people on the south side will always find a way to get to the greener pastures.

I think it is an excellent idea....we have national guard and army reserve and marine reserve that rotate through service...let them patrol the border and keep most drugs and illegal aliens out....they are already getting paid and let them build the wall...solves the labor issue......I for one am tired of illegal aliens and immigrants getting help while we have so many Americans and vets that need assistance.....it really fires me up....
How about putting the people crossing the border illegally to work building the wall? Let Mexico pay their wages.

No, it won't "solve" it.

It will hopefully prevent it from getting worse, until we can get some kind of foolproof restriction on our border... whether it's a wall, or machine gun towers every 200 yards... whatever. We have to stop the incursions, then figure out what kind of path to citizenship we need for the 1.8 million that Trump promised.

Actually the best cure would be instant stoppage of ANY kind of welfare handouts to non-citizens. They would leave in droves. Proven.
Do you have any real statistics on who, and how much we are paying welfare benefits to?

Hey why not....and for the ones already here that every liberal is whining about....they must serve 2 years of labor on the wall and or other community projects before they are allied to apply for citizenship....

No, I do not, but I believe it was Arizona that did just that, and they saw a mass exodus of illegals.

Do you think the department (Health and Human Services??) that handles welfare programs would put out statistics on the citizenship status of the recipients?

It would be interesting to do a study on that.

From the Washington Post.....

According to the Department of Agriculture, 1.5 million noncitizens received food stamps in the 2015 fiscal year, as did 3.9 million citizen children living with noncitizen adults. The rules for receiving public assistance are strict, and immigrants tend to utilize food benefits at a much lower rate than their native-born neighbors. Studies have also shown that immigrant households tend to suffer more hunger.
For legal immigrants who entered the country after August 1996, eligibility is determined based on their age and time in the U.S. Adults qualify only after they’ve lived in the U.S. for five years, or if they’re refugees or disabled; children who entered legally qualify sooner.
Undocumented immigrants are never eligible for food stamps, though they may live in a “mixed eligibility” household that does receive them. For instance, it’s not uncommon for undocumented parents to apply for assistance on behalf of their citizen children.

The boats no longer make it to shore, if they ever did. They intercepted but the government has effectively stopped them from coming in the first place as far as I'm aware.

We need to simply accept that our infrastructure is unable to accommodate for mass immigration. It's bursting at the seams as it is, here in Melbourne at least.

When illegal immigrants are intercepted they are put in off shore detention centres. I don't necessarily agree with processing times, but I don't know the details as to why it can take so long so I can't cast judgement there. Hardcore leftists just want them let in probably not understanding that what they have done is simply illegal.

I hear ya....now imagine that in the U.S. we already have almost HALF of the population of Australia illegally in this country and then ADD up how much MONEY the American tax payer has to pay to deal with them in food stamps, medical, jail, processing, lost jobs, etc......all the while American citizens are suffering, American Military VETS are suffering, Americans are homeless, job less etc.....

It is absolutely RETARDED and MORONIC that ANY AMERICAN would rather allow illegal immigration and would rather take care of those who are NOT even citizens to the detriment of AMERICAN citizens....especially those who have served this country faithfully in our military while laying it ALL on the line for this nation and the very people who throw them under the bus....not only does it FIRE ME UP, but it makes me despise the actions of any and all who support illegals in this nation.

Gee... how heartless your government is. All the boat people want is a better life for their family. And your citizens should be glad to pay to feed, house, and school all of them, in unlimited numbers, don't you think?

Any woman that manages to stumble up on shore and give birth there should automatically be granted citizen status, and be taken full care of, at the Aussie citizens' expense. Of course, your government will have to pay to have the rest of her family shipped over, because it would be heartless to "separate" a family... or a half million families...

And, whatever you do, don't insist that they assimilate into the Aussie way of life..... you must let them bring with them their third-world way of living, and their third-world hygiene habits, because that is their culture... how dare you try to take that away from them.

And, after they have bred like rabbits for a generation, and outnumber you in the polls, you can be pleased that they have managed to turn YOUR country into a third-world hell-hole... just like the one they fled, to come to YOURS.

Yep, illegal immigration is WONDERFUL. How could anyone with a heart be against that?

Yes... a satirical pessimist.

Oddly enough, that is what "the world", along with all OUR liberal wackos believe WE should do.... since we are supposed to be caring, welcoming US citizens.

My belief is that I welcome anyone that truly wants to come here and become an American. Legally, of course.

This means they leave behind their old, third-world way of life, and their old political beliefs (socialism is good! The government is in full control, and will take care of all of us!) and fully adopt the American way of life... the "rugged individualism" that is/was the backbone of our nation.

I also believe that any government aid given to an immigrant should be bare minimum, and is predicated on the immigrant getting some kind of job. If that means they scrub toilets, so be it. I've scrubbed toilets, and done lots of other things that many welfare recipients feel is somehow "beneath" them. No job, no welfare. Period. And the welfare will have a definite "end point"....

I am not an isolationist. I also am not an idiot. Our country cannot take in and support limitless numbers of non-productive people who have no interest in becoming true, productive American citizens. And, we cannot and should not take in those "immigrants" who come here with the intent of changing America to be like what they had "at home". Yes, this includes Muslims who want to institute Shariah law. I will fight to the death, if necessary, to prevent that from happening.

Muslims that want to become Americans, and don't want to fundamentally change our government/way of life? Welcome.

Very true - but sadly we live in an age where people have been convinced to act against their own best interests.

Caravans of Central American migrants make their way to the United States border.

Though the Mexican government denies that it is tacitly aiding the Hondurans,
there are indications to the contrary. The group responsible for organizing and
giving aid to this caravan, Pueblo Sin Fronteras, posted a video showing the
swarm of migrants passing through a town. The caption on the Facebook post reads,

“The Refugee Caravan knocking down borders yesterday in Huehuetán!
Immigration agents abandoned the post when they saw us coming.
The people celebrate this first small victory!”

Reports claim that not only did the Mexican government decline to escort the Hondurans
home or hinder their passage to the U.S., but that many locals were giving them shelter,
food and other aid.
