Help me understand what part of 2 Timothy 3:16 you do not understand:

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness"-2 Timothy 3:16

This is hardly Paul saying the law is "useful for edification. That is all."

"teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness" is edification.

Freedom from the yoke of bondage of the law never means freedom from fulfilling the righteous requirements of the law. In fact, faith in Christ upholds those requirements, not releases you from them. Even the requirements in the law that we don't have to literally fulfill anymore are satisfied by faith in Christ, not broken by faith in Christ.

All righteous deeds demanded by the law are fulfilled in those who walk according to the spirit and not according to the flesh. People can follow the law in the flesh, but they cannot follow the spirit in the flesh. If they are following the spirit, they will by nature do the righteousness that the law demands.

in order that the requirement of the law would be fulfilled in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:4

This is the same word that is used in Revelation 19:8. It is the word righteous with the -ma suffix, which means effect.

Requirement/Righteous deed
G1345 δικαίωμα dikaioma (dik-ai'-o-mah) n.

And it has been granted to her that she be dressed in bright, clean fine linen (for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints). Revelation 19:8

Yes, you will be edified from being taught and trained in righteousness from reading the law. The point is, the law is not useless for the purpose of training up the Christian as so many people think. The law is useful for growing up into the stature of Christ. Just because that won't happen without the Spirit doesn't mean the law is useless towards that ends.

Which should wrap up this thread.

'Do We Have To Keep The Law' is synonymous with 'Do We Have To Walk By The Spirit, Thus Fulfilling The Law?' The answer, of course, is, 'yes, you have to walk by the Spirit'.

Jesus fulfilled all of the Law's requirements. (Romans 10:4, Galatians 3:13)

A. Because we can't. (Galatians 3:21)

B. Because we never could. (Hebrews 7:18-19, Philippians 3:9)

C. Not even the Jews, to whom the Law was given, could. (Galatians 6:13)

D. Because of this, we are to live by faith alone, apart from the Law. (Galatians 3:2-3, 11-12, 23-25 Romans 3:27-28)

The Law was given for only one reason: To be a schoolmaster to drive us to the cross, and no further. (Galatians 3:24-25)

If you want to go ahead and put yourself back under the commandments, you are obligated to obey them to the letter, perfectly, without fail, every second of your life. (James 2:10)

All you've managed to do, is put yourself under a curse. (Galatians 3:10-11)

Hello Budman,

The more I see these responses, the more it becomes clear as to why Jesus said, "not everyone who says to me 'Lord, Lord' will inherit the kingdom of God." And that because they continue to trust in their own efforts, while at the same time claiming Christ only. The true christian trusts in Christ as the One who provided salvation for him, completely and fully and not by his own efforts. I'm amazed at the lack of understanding regarding salvation by grace through faith.

As soon as a person brings in his own work as a requirement along side the Lord's sacrifice, it is the same as saying that the Lord's sacrifice was insufficient.

Jesus met the righteous requirements of the Law on our behalf, satisfying it completely. He took upon Himself God's wrath that all believers deserve and paid the penalty for our sins by the shedding of His blood. The true believer isn't concerned with keeping the works of the law, but follows Christ and is led by the Spirit.

The true believer is zealous for good works, not to obtain or maintain salvation, but to glorify God in them. And by our good works we are also building up our treasures in heaven.

There are going to be a lot of shocked and disappointed people.

Amen brother! Well said! That salvation is by grace through faith and is not by works (Ephesians 2:8,9) is not hard to understand. It's just hard for works-salvationists (including misguided teachers of the law) to ACCEPT. It's a shame that human pride will not allow them to trust exclusively in Jesus Christ for salvation. Their hands are full of their works and they will not let go in order to take hold of Christ through faith.

The Ten Commandments are part of the Law; GOD's Law; Christ the Word. HE and it through HIM has become part of who we are; being implanted in our hearts and minds. Christians can't help themselves. For GOD has said, I will put my Laws in their hearts and write them in their minds. Declared to be the epistle of Christ.... written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God. So Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ (HIS Word; the Law) again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word (Christ; HIS LAW) is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart (that we do it): that is, the word of faith, which we preach. Christ in us the hope of glory. A new and living Way; the Veil; that is to say His flesh; the Body of Christ; the Temple of GOD. For it is HE that works in us both to will and do HIS good pleasure. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the (engrafted) word (that which is in our hearts and minds), and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
(Heb 8:10; 2Co 3:3-5; Rom 10:6-8; Jas 1:21-22)
No. The 10 commandments are not Gods Law.

The 10 commandments are part of the law of Moses.

This is a REALLY big (purposeful) misunderstanding amongst the judaizers and legalists.

The Gospel remains under attack by such people who are mixed up in various false religions and cults (including SDA's) who play the same game in salvation as every other false movement of Christendom. They profess to teach that salvation is by grace through faith, but then redefine this in a way that is contrary to the Truth. Even though they deny this, they teach that salvation is by "grace plus law, faith plus works." Their doctrine of salvation is a subtle mixture of law and grace that is a perversion of the Gospel. (Galatians 1:6-9) :(

We saw this time and time again with one particular SDA below:

God’s Law has always been part of the true Gospel of Christ. The counterfeit Gospel does not have it. God's forever Law (the 10 commandments) is the foundation of both the Old and the New Covenant and the very foundation and basis of the true Gospel of Christ.

Morning Grandpa,

I would have to humbly disagree, as the ten commandments are most definitely apart of the law, which God gave to Moses. consider the following:

"Whoever keeps the whole Law but stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker."

6th commandment = You shall not murder

7th commandment = You shall not commit adultery

Both of them belonging to the ten commandments and apart of the law.

As the scripture states of above: "If you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker. Everything that God gave to Israel through Moses is apart of the law. Therefore, James recognizes the ten commandments as being apart of the law.

That would be ALL OF IT.

Or else it is none of it.

There is none left for us to literally fulfill. Or else all of it is left to literally fulfill.

Nowhere did the Lord say He was going to fulfill PART of the law and leave the rest for you.

Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

That's pretty explicit. That's the smallest jot and tittle shall not pass till ALL is fulfilled.

You aren't the only one who has stumbled over what the Lord Jesus Christ has said. The Jews weren't too happy about it, either.

Romans 9:31-32
[SUP]31 [/SUP]But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
[SUP]32 [/SUP]Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;

I didn't say that the 10 commandments weren't part of the law.

Of course they are part of the law.

They are part of the law of Moses.

But they aren't Gods Law. And this is a VERY important distinction.

John 1:17
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

why would God tell us to be perfect and sin no more IF it was an IMpossibility ?
what you are IGnoring/rejecting/denying is the Power of GOD's Holy Spirit in a man who will AChieve all of God's Purpose....in good time !!!
And the Proof of His Spirit is evident when we follow His Teaching...when we DO what He says....when we are.become obedient ! If we DON'T Do as we are told there will be no FRUITS !!!

Do you still sin?

So, in your religion, who Gave Moses the 10 Commandments? Was it not the Word which became Flesh?

God gave the law to Israel through Moses. But before the law was introduced, Abraham was credited with righteousness and said that through him all nations would be blessed being credited with righteousness having the same faith as Abraham. Consider the following:

"All who rely on works of the Law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”And it is clear that no one is justified before God by the Law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.”The Law, however, is not based on faith; on the contrary, “The one who does these things will live by them.”

"
What I mean is this: The Law that came four hundred thirty years later does not revoke the covenant previously established by God, so as to cancel the promise. For if the inheritance depends on the Law, then it no longer depends on a promise; but God freely granted it to Abraham through a promise."

Now, read the above carefully to what it is saying and don't just gloss over it. It is very clear that believers are credited with the same righteousness as Abraham by having the same faith and not by observing the law. Regarding the law, Paul then goes on to say the following:

"
Why then was the Law given? It was added because of transgressions, until the arrival of the seed to whom the promise referred."

"
Before this faith came, we were held in custody under the Law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the Law became our guardian to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian."

The law was only meant to last until the promised seed (Christ) had come. Now that He has come, we are no longer under the law.

No, Paul explained to the Galatians that what they were doing by turning back to the law for justification and away from Christ would exclude them from inheriting the kingdom. He explained to them how trying to be justified by the law is to be a son of a slave woman--a slave woman's son who does not inherit the kingdom with the sons of the free woman:

"But what does the Scripture say?

“CAST OUT THE BONDWOMAN AND HER SON,
FORTHE SON OF THE BONDWOMAN SHALL NOT BE AN HEIR WITH THE SON OF THE FREE WOMAN.”-Galatians 4:30

See, Paul is plainly telling them this is indeed a matter of salvation for them to turn to the slavery of the law by trying to be justified by the law and turning away from the justification they have through faith in Christ. You lose your justification in Christ when you do that, and as a result you will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Ralph, I'll hand it to you - you can twist scripture out of context like few I've ever encountered.

Yet again, those scriptures do not mention anyone who was a born again believer, losing their salvation. You stuck the inference in there yourself. There are those who have "tasted" of Christ, but turn away back to the Law. They came close to salvation, but rejected it in favor of the Law, or a mixture of the Law and Grace.

I'll ask once more: give one clear scripture that states a born again believer can lose their salvation.

I am on sabbatical from the ones who simply say whatever they decide is right, without consulting God or having had it confirmed by the HOly Spirit. It really is like pulling teeth att times. God bless you for your endurance and patience. you are an edifier....j

If the 10 commandments were "Gods Law" then they would never be described as the Ministration of Death and Condemnation by Paul.

Paul would instead have said "Thankfully you can follow the 10 commandments in your own understanding with help from the Lord Jesus Christ". But that wasn't said, or rather written.

2 Corinthians 3:6-9
[SUP]6 [/SUP]Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
[SUP]8 [/SUP]How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
[SUP]9 [/SUP]For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

That would be the 10 commandments.

Now reconcile that with this;

Romans 8:1-2
1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

If you are trying to work at the 10 commandments according to your own understanding then you are NOT walking in the spirit. You are either free from the law of sin and death by the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus or you are still working at the law (10 commandments) in your own understanding.

If you are still working at the law then YOU believe there are parts of the law that the Lord Jesus Christ DID NOT fulfill. You have not entered into rest because of un-belief.

John 15:5
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
