Is the root scripture for this teaching in Romans 10:9-13 really saying what the modern churches claim?

Some will say to me on the last day, Have we not cast out demons, and done many wonderful works in your name? And I will profess to them get away from me ye that works iniquity, I never knew you.

The modern church all over the globe is falsifying doctrine that has extreme detrimental effects. They are portraying and confirming the false teaching that one may obtain God's saving grace through a prayer and repentance.
When an unlearned in the Word of God or an unsaved person attends church, the manipulation begins with the structure itself (not always, but it helps) the clergy present a solemn and holy aura, scripture is manipulated, and different other manipulative factors are used.
They get to a point in their ritual where the unlearned or unsaved is most likely to be either guilt ridden or emotionally elevated. They then ask something similar to "Is anyone feeling compelled to ask the Lord into their life ". After whatever sign of recognition is given, they then tell them to say a prayer (which has many, many different variables) and when the prayer is said the church confirms their "sonship" as a child of God. They are told to regularly attend church and ask for forgiveness.
This is the most widespread and most damaging lie in the modern churches today. They are giving countless masses a false sense of salvation.
The now new "Child of God " tries to follow the commandments of, and comprehend the love of God without a true spiritual rebirth. Many labor in their works and beliefs to find no benefit that everyone speaks of. The reaction differs, but you either get a turning away in aggravation, or a false hope of saving faith which will produce no spiritual fruits.
This widespread lie is incresing in damaging more and more from generation to generation. You either have the falling sway to complete unbelief, or a life without experiencing the true promises of the joy, peace, wisdom, and spiritually abundant life God has confirmed for his. The result of either is the lack of desire to teach their children about the Good Lord and Christ's atoning sacrificial death in which which we can all rest in.
I am not saying at all whatsoever that if the Lord can not choose to bestow his grace upon someone's life through prayer. I am saying that teaching it is a sure and instantaneous way to salvation is a lie with detrimental effects, and cunningly paves a highway to hell.
May the damnable offense rest on the deserving.

I concur with much of what you say above . . . nowhere in Scripture does it say that it is through saying a prayer that a person is born again and becomes a child of God. Much damage has been done by turning the new birth into a formula of saying the right words.

As you say, sometimes this approach is followed by a push to do the commandments, attend church, stop swearing, etc. At other times, the approach is simply to lead a person in the sinner's prayer, write their name on a list of "decisions", and then nothing further is done with followup or discipleship.

Surely there have been many who have been truly born again by saying a "sinner's prayer" - and it has yielded much fruit - if it is mixed with faith . . .

By the way, 50Cialon3, I noticed on your home page you wrote you were saved "before the world was": Could you explain what you mean by that, and does it have anything to do with what you are trying to say on this thread?

From my understanding God (who is not bound to time or space) knew my salvation was sealed.

Just because the sinner's prayer is abused does not mean that it is invalid. One way or another, every sinner must call upon the name of the Lord in order to be saved, and every sinner must receive Christ as Lord and Savior by faith in order to be saved.

But unless you came to Christ with genuine faith and repentance, it would mean nothing. So you must also have prayed the sinner's prayer. At the very least "God be merciful to me a sinner".

I did pray a sinners prayer in the midst of my unbelief when I was much younger, but the truth is that I have a testimony that begins much like Pauls. God snaked me off my high horse of disgust and unbelief and said here I am. Everything that remotely pertains to anything righteous, holy, faith, love, doctrine, and obviously his spirit came from an initial revealing of himself. At the time, I didn't care enough about the subject to want to ask.

All who call upon the Lord shall be saved - Paul is referring to old testament scripture from Joel 2:32. The reference is for the remnant. Please read it in context.

A person is not saved because they gave a canned prayer, a 'repeat after me', &c., but because a sovereign God chose them from before the foundation of the world, gave their sins unto His Christ, who redeemed them when He shed His blood for them.

Now, when you see someone truly repenting of their sins before the Lord, you see someone who God has already wrought grace into their heart, which is what truly makes them call out to Him in the same manner the tax collector did when he said ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’[Luke 18:13b]

I absolutely agree that merely stating, or repeating, the words of a prayer, sinners prayer in this instance, is meaningless...
However, if one really prays the sinners prayer with a repentant heart fully convinced that one needs to turn to God then it is of eternal benefit!

There is nothing magical in the recitation, per se, nor the words used - it is all in the heart, informed by the Holy Spirit...
