No sale.

Logic and biblical truth demands that the perfect is the completed bible.

God has given the law of Moses that men might see sin as personal. God has now given man the bible so that man might see that Christ is the only atonement God accepts for sin.

Don't tempt me to reply from proverbs.

You are trying to sell something but you haven't got the merchandise.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. I Corinthians 13

logic itself disowns the interpretation that the Bible is that 'which is perfect' and for that matter so does wisdom (I believe they kind of go hand in hand anyway)

or maybe that illustrates that some believe all wisdom has left the scene

I Corinthians 13 has been called the 'love chapter'

nothing about this world or the people in it are perfect; just lately there was a thread about spurious Bible verses

wake up. things will only be perfect when we 'know as we are known'

to say otherwise, is the height of ignorance IMO

take it as you will

this post is actually more in defense of understanding than tongues or any other gift

and I am not going to respond to all the 'smart' people who say otherwise

like I said, take it as you will

The warning is not to add or substract. All new revelations(prophecy) as a possibility of more has ben sealed up till the end of time.
Some simply go above that which is written. we have the complete or perfect .

The perfect has come. No more new wisdom coming from God, no knew knowledge or new spiritual laws .

We have all the information needed to know as God knows us .We cannot know more than he reveals.

I was responding to the concept that speaking without knowing what you are saying is in any way shape of from a fruitful undertaking. The answer is absolutely not. The purpose of language is communication. God gave us His word that we are able to know Him. The Holy Spirit reveals God to us through the word of God. We see our need of redemption, sanctification and glorification in Christ through the word of God.

God spoke to Israel to reveal His promise of a Redeemer. Israel must have faith in Gods promise to redeem them through Messiah to have righteousness imputed to them. The NT points back to Christ and faith in Christ as our Redeemer is how God imputes righteousness to us.

God has not spoken to us in unknown tongues but in His Son. God has left us to testify of the saving grace of God in Christ to the whole world. We cannot testify of salvation in Christ if we speak in unknown tongues.

Somehow things have gotten turned around that we have folks declaring that no knowledge is a good thing.

Nope, it is not unfruitful. Yep, God gave us his word to we would be able to know him. It is written: Speaking in tongues - edifies the individual (1 Cor. 14:4) and in a group, when interpreted, it edifies the church (1 Cor. 5b). The purpose of language is communication - It is written: When one speaks in tongues, he is speaking to God (1 Cor. 14:2), when one speaks in tongues and interprets - he is communicating to the church and therefore speaking words via the gift of holy spirit to edify the church (1 Cor. 5b). The Holy Spirit (God) gave us the gift of holy spirit to teach us, to guide us, to comfort us (John 16).
God spoke to Israel to reveal His promise of a Redeemer. Israel must have faith in Gods promise to redeem them through Messiah to have righteousness imputed to them. The NT points back to Christ and faith in Christ as our Redeemer is how God imputes righteousness to us.
Yes, God did prophesy of a coming Redeemer and Jesus did redeem us and imputed righteousness to us.
God has not spoken to us in unknown tongues but in His Son. God has left us to testify of the saving grace of God in Christ to the whole world. We cannot testify of salvation in Christ if we speak in unknown tongues.
Jesus Christ poured out the promise of the Father, the gift of holy spirit. We testify of that gift of holy spirit by speaking in tongues and interpreting in the church, that is why it is a sign to unbelievers. Everyone in the church "building" is not a believer, that is if your church is receiving new people.

No one has said that "no knowledge is a good thing." But considering that you believe tongues have ceased - then in the same sense, word of knowledge has ceased - meaning God does not speak to us individually to guide us in certain circumstances and situations that may not be individually specific through scripture. Which would bring us back to communication - God still does communicate with us - just listen for that still small voice.

Well even I become frustrated by folks who just cannot receive any instruction. Hard hearts toward Gods word only seem to become harder and more distant from Gods truths.

I still wrestle with the old nature. Patience is a virtue.

One day you'll see the irony in your statement, Roger.
One day you will see the error of your ways. Hopefully in time to repent.

1Co 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
Yes, it is unfruitful to my mind because I do not understand what I am saying - but God understands what I am saying because it is my spirit communicating with him. (1 Cor. 14:2) It is fruitful in that it edifies me - (1 Cor. 14:4a)
God speaks to us through His word the bible under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Roger, do you pray? Are there things in life that you ask God and need answers to - maybe in a job situation, a relationship situation that is just specific to you? Then you need a message of knowledge and a message of wisdom from God . . . God is our Father and we can't very well have a relationship without communication - we talk to him - he talks to us and not just through his word. Scripture doesn't specifically speak on which job would be the best for me . . . . how to handle a situation at work . . . sometimes we each need specific individual guidance in our lives.
Those who speak in unknown tongues speak into the air.

1Co 14:9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.

1 Cor. 14:5 I would that you all speak with tongues, but rather that you prophesied: for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks in tongues, EXCEPT (UNLESS) he interpret, that the church may receive edifying . . . v6-11 explain why one needs to interpret concluding with v12, 13 Even so you, forasmuch as you are zealous of spiritual (gifts, added) seek that you may excel to the edifying of the church. WHEREFORE let him that speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.

the conterxt of 1cor 13 8-11 has nothing to do with new revelations. it has to do with how we need the Holy Spirit and use the gifts until we see HIM face to face and we shall be fully known . That has not happen, No one can fully know all the word of God.

That being said No man can create anew word from God. That too is wrong.

This debate rests on the claims of some who are professing to speak in supernatural languages, correct?

This debate could easily be settled, Either the claimants prove what they are claiming is supernatural or simply use the reasoning behind transubtantiation and call modern day tongues a matter of unprovable faith apart from sight.

It is rather disingenuous to present textual evidence for on-going physical events. This is like using a physics textbook to prove the existence of gravity.

How do you know Jesus Christ lived, died, and was resurrected?

Did you read it in a book, perhaps?
