A intersting fact, Methuselah died in the year of the flood or because of the flood the bible is not clear on exactly how he died, IMO he died of natural causes in the year of the flood.

Genesis 5

21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah.
22 After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters.
23 Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years.
24 Enoch walked faithfully with God;then he was no more, because God took him away.
25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech.
26 After he became the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters.
27 Altogether, Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died.
28 When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son.
29 He named him Noah and said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.”
30 After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters.
31 Altogether, Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died.
32 After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth.

Genesis 7

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.

Methusalah died because of the flood? Interesting . . . could be - ?? But then he must not have been a godly man?
(I know you only gave this as a possibility -- I am just thinking out loud!) :)

Indeed it is interesting though I don't think he died in flood, could of been days or months before the flood but adding up the numbers there's no question he died in the year of the flood. As well it may be a small detail but I enjoy learning even of the smallest of details. :)

Lamech 5 years before the flood.

I can't name the source from memory (Chuck Missler perhaps), but I recall hearing that the Hebrew name "Methuselah" means, "When he dies, it shall break forth". The comment was added that his long life is a testimony of God's patience toward sinners.

And here's that write up, and I'm tickled pink over that info, amazing indeed, learn something new everyday.

Methuselah
The Flood of Noah did not come as a surprise. It had been preached on for four generations. But something strange happened when Enoch was 65, from which time “he walked with God.” Enoch was given a prophecy that as long as his son was alive, the judgment of the flood would be withheld; but as soon as he died, the flood would be sent forth.

Enoch named his son to reflect this prophecy. The name Methuselah comes from two roots: muth, a root that means “death” ; and from shalach, which means “to bring,” or “to send forth.” Thus, the name Methuselah signifies, “his death shall bring.”

And, indeed, in the year that Methuselah died, the flood came. Methuselah was 187 when he had Lamech, and lived 782 years more. Lamech had Noah when he was 182. The Flood came in Noah’s 600th year. 187 + 182 + 600 = 969, Methuselah’s age when he died.

It is interesting that Methuselah’s life was, in effect, a symbol of God’s mercy in forestalling the coming judgment of the flood. It is therefore fitting that his lifetime is the oldest in the Bible, symbolizing the extreme extensiveness of God’s mercy.

True indeed brother,

I like your signature good words to live by though I myself fall short applying those in my life sometimes... :(
Hi LPT, yeah, I'm right there with you. I have them there for everyone to see, of course, but they're as much (or more) a reminder for me, especially out here in this online Christian world of ours, where acting like a Christian seems so much harder for some reason, and where anyone/anywhere who wants to is watching :eek:

NO, Methusalah did not die in the flood. In fact, it was prophesied that the flood would come after He Died and it did. His name means "His death shall Bring"

some believe the patriarch name meaning of the Hebrew bible have an inner teaching:

Adam = Man
Seth = Appointed
Enosh = Mortal
Kenana = Sorrow
Mahalalel = The Blessed God
Jared = Shall come down
Enoch = Teaching
Methuselah = His death shall bring
Lamech = The despairing
Noah = Rest

And, indeed, in the year that Methuselah died, the flood came. Methuselah was 187 when he had Lamech, and lived 782 years more. Lamech had Noah when he was 182.
If that's the case, then Noah had 600 yrs with grandpa Methuselah

187 + 182 = 369
969 - 369 = 600 years to play with and learn from Methuselah :cool:
