Um makes me wonder if there is a reason they need to make sure it is functional, :0!!!

For some reason, I don't get national alerts on my mobile phone. Q Link Wireless.
They've had them through cable and local TV for decades. Now less people have cable tv, opting for streaming movies, so those alerts won't reach as many people.
Cell phones, on the other hand, is something most people have and keep close at all times. I see it as a natural progression. In fact I'm surprised it hasn't been done sooner. But we have been getting amber alerts through cell phones for years now.
Yea, I can't think of any normal situation where a national alert would be needed. It would have to be an invasion from russia or something a.k.a. Red Dawn. Or an incoming nuclear attack.
The old system is called the Emergency Alert System. And its local, not national.
That makes sense I suppose, just a possible sign of progression.
