yes Alexis de Tocqueville .... I remember writing a paper on him many moons ago. If I remember correctly he believed that France failed in its revolutionary efforts whereas the United States did indeed succeed in creating a democratic state.

The thread is not pointless. I am addressing real situations. Your 'united we stand and divided we fall' statement may be true. But that just means we are going to fall. This is something you are refusing to acknowledge. We are divided. A euphoric pipe dream doesn't make us all of a sudden 'united'.

Actually I was thinking being a Canadian puts me in an excellent position, I can be completely unbiased.....can you say the same?
You can say that America was based on "Judeao-Christian principles" maybe......... although the founding fathers were mostly freemasons ....but I will grant you that the settlers and early immigrants came from a Christian mindset.
However, there is a huge difference between "Christianity" and "Christian principles" and therefore I stand by my statement.

The U.S. is a democratic republic, to understand it as a democracy is essential.
"Republic" presently as a political descriptor is not sufficient since since China calls itself a Republic too.

It has elements of a democracy, I really do not see how you can dispute this, they are not mutually exclusive.
No it doesn't. One is mass rule. One is representative rule. Big difference. But go ahead and try and contribute to the fall of America by declaring we need to be 'democratic'. Never mind how it was originally set up to be. Just breathe the smoke and exhale on everyone else.
