Nowadays, people divorce because there's no more love in the marriage.

First of all, no matter what view one takes on the issue of divorce, it is important to remember Malachi 2:16: “I hate divorce, says the LORD God of Israel.” According to the Bible, marriage is a lifetime commitment. “So they are no longer two, but one.

The controversy over whether divorce and remarriage is allowed according to the Bible revolves primarily around Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:32 and 19:9. The phrase “except for marital unfaithfulness” is the only thing in Scripture that possibly gives God’s permission for divorce and remarriage.

Those that divorced because of lack of respect or love in the marriage, are they committing sin?

"Is 'action X' a sin?" is a question that comes up far too often on this forum. So many people don't know their Bibles, wherein it states, "Whatever is not of faith is sin" (Romans 14:23). If you (generically) need to ask, the answer is "Yes".

Is divorce a sin? Yes, but so is the c**p that leads to divorce. Setting one apart as "more sinful" is ridiculous.

A separate question: is divorce redeemable? That is for each person to sort out with the Lord and His word. My view is that each case is different, and Scripture allows for remarriage under certain circumstances. That said, the one who really wants to remarry will likely do so regardless of what Scripture or the Lord say about it. Now where's the sin?

People divorce nowadays because they spend more time picking out a pair of shoes than they do finding a life partner. They also divorce because they were never in love but they were in lust. Lust wears off after a short time. They also divorce because they are either unsaved or they are so ignorant of God's plan and will for their life that they are just getting by with their human intellect, what little they might have.

The explanation above is logical and I like your contribution, is getting married for lust and divorced afterwards a sin?

Love is a construct so there is really no simple definition. It is, however, a bond between two people in a lifelong commitment. Today the marriage VOWS are really marriage LIES that mean nothing. A marriage will never be a true bond between two people if they are not both first committed to the Lord Jesus Christ in their lives. Very few marriages are built upon a biblical foundation, and without that at best their marriage is built upon sand.

Not if it is grounded on a deep-seated relationship to Jesus Christ. What goes for Christianity today is barely skin-deep.

For some people, perhaps. If the generalization is true of all, it is true of you as well. ;)

Is it? My wife and I were married for 42 years and would still be going if the Lord had not called her home a year and a half ago because of ovarian cancer.

So, kindly stuff you generalization . . . thanks.

Is something spoken sincerely with right intent a lie? Is it true when spoken and becomes a lie later on? Or perhaps is your definition of "lie" too broad?

You earlier wrote, "They also divorce because they were never in love but they were in lust." So being "in love" is the key to avoiding divorce? Or the mysterious element that makes a marriage "valid"?

My condolences for your loss.

As to your snark, you made the generalization. I just pointed out the implications of it. By the way, it was about Christianity, not marriage.

I am simply amazed how some members here can twist and pull snippets out of context in order to attack their opponents and make them say things that were never said or intended. Well, that's okay . . . God is reading here also.

It's like, "Yea, hast thou said? . . ." knowing full well that what was said is clearly written. Maybe schools should try to push reading comprehension a little more than they do.

They are committing sin.

And put it this way they wanted to be married so they have to be stuck with it, and that is why people should not rush to be married, but do not sin while you are not rushing.

Or put it this way when we are saved, and receive the Spirit, and we become one with Jesus, there is no backing out of that deal either.

Those are 2 commitments that you are not allowed to back out of once you commit to it.

Sure quit your job, stop using Colgate toothpaste in favor for another, trade in your car for a different make and model, for that is alright.

But do not back out of marriage once you commit to it, and if you cannot get along later in marriage, and you do not love each other anymore, and cannot stand to look at each other's faces, the only thing to say is too bad, so sad.

You are one with the person now, and what God has put together let no person tear asunder.

You can separate from each other, and never communicate with each other, but you are always married to the person.

But if one cheats on the other they have broken the covenant, and broken that they were one flesh, and the person that got cheated on can divorce and marry again legally in the eyes of the Lord.

Also if the spouse dies a person can remarry, but don't go putting a contract out on your spouse, and don't go cheating on your spouse so you can legally end the marriage, and do not set your spouse up by sending people her way to entice them to have sex and hopefully they will fall for it so you can get out of the marriage.

Well you never know with these people that say they cannot abstain from sin, and sin does not affect their relationship with God, for who knows what they will do, and we see the divorces among people who claim to be a Christian.

Oh what am I thinking it does not bother them to divorce anyway without any deceitfulness.

So they obviously do not care what Jesus says concerning marriage, or other things for that matter.

And now it is over for one thing leads to another, and the hypocrisy is at such a high level, and soon the time will come they will not endure the truth of the Bible, but want to hear it according to the new age movement interpreted by the occult, and evolution, and people can still evolve to be greater and spiritual, and then the beast kingdom, then it is over.

All because the Christians could not abstain from sin, and wanted to enjoy sin, and worldly things, and the children were influenced by that and became worse when they got older in hypocrisy, until people in the world only wanted to hear the word of God according to the new age movement.

Like the Pharisees that made their converts two fold the child of hell as they were, the parents are making children twice the twofold child of hell that they were.

And they thought the counterculture movement was something special as they rebelled against authority, and free love and immorality, and drugs and laziness, and morals and values started to slip, and they got more selfish, and arrogant, after that.

Well thanks a lot.

The last generation the children will curse their father and not bless their mother, and children obeying and honoring their parents is the first commandment with promise.

And fathers provoke your children not to wrath, so they have a responsibility to their children, but many are doing illegal drugs, stealing, swearing, drinking and driving, cutting down the neighbors and people, short with the children, and the children think you are going to tell me to act right, and you will not act right.

They say the children do not act right like they used to, and what is wrong with them.

I wonder why.

So whose fault really is it since children will only act according to how the parents and government allows them to act, and many parents are relaxed in morals since after the so called cool, hip, and groovy, counterculture movement.

They should of stuck to their guns and kept that 1950's attitude and not budged, but they were taken by the flesh in arrogance to rebel against authority, and immorality with the free love, and drugs, and laziness.

Yep, the flesh got them.

So what I say marriage, smarriage, many do not care anyway, and even less in the future.

And it does not matter in the future for it will be international law that a man and a woman cannot marry for population reduction.

For this counterculture movement, technology booming, new age movement interpretation of the Bible, caused the occultists to come out of the woodwork, and now the new age movement, and the occult is the future for this sinful world.

1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

The new age movement, and now you understand the feminist movement, and the wanting tolerance for homosexuals, and making them think they are born gay, and can be transgender, as they want to drive a wedge between men and women to cause them to not want to be with each other, and promoting being a vegetarian.

For it will be international one day when the nations come together to try to establish peace on earth, for they will forbid to marry, and will command to abstain from meats, for it is of the occult, and wants population reduction on blessed mother earth, and reverence animals.

The Christians should of stuck to their guns but a lot of them changed along with the world in selfishness, and arrogance, and the children will be influenced worse and worse, like a song where they change one note and let that play for a while, and people say it is truth, and then change another note and let that play for a while, and people say it is truth, and then eventually it is an entirely different song, and the people say it is truth.

Well thanks a lot.

I will have to be like Paul Revere, the occult is coming, the occult is coming.

Hey, there are billions and billions of women in the world... but a comfortable pair of shoes... that's pretty rare.

Apart from the Biblical foundation thing, women have a big role to play in marriage, 65% of divorces all over the world are caused by women (according to research). I think women should not get married on the ground of love because it can fail, only God's love is everlasting. Women in turn should only accept marriage proposal from the man they can respect. Ephesians 5:33 NIV

I am celebrating 35 yrs tomorrow with my darling.
Love is not a emotion of butterflies in the stomach thing. In fact it's been my experience that it has to be learned.
Some say agape is true love but agape is a type of love ...one we should aim for but to be honest we won't achieve this side of heaven.
To be in love you must maintain it by loving back, loving first, and loving last. If you find that you can and want to do this love thing then you are "in love"..

We've had our share of hardships, heartbreaks, and hard times, that's life...picking ourselves up and moving forward has not been easy but needs to be done.
We agree to disagree and that needs to be learned. You will never have a perfect marriage because no one save one (Jesus) is perfect.

Well I'd say you are lucky, two of my friends are now divorced, though I am single now but I want to get married but with my friend's experience from their marriages respectively, I don't ever want to divorce my wife once I'm married.

While "research" may reveal that of all divorces initiated, 65% are filed by women, that doesn't mean "65% of divorces are caused by women". Divorce is the result of sinful behaviour by both husbands and wives. In many cases, the husband's ungodly behaviour drives the wife to divorce. In many cases, the wife's ungodly behaviour drives the husband to divorce. Of course "women have a big role to play in marriage; as big as the role men play!

Let's not turn this subject into a vehicle for sexism.
