What is saving faith? Is it enough to know who Christ is and what he did for you and pledge loyalty, or does it have to be what John Piper says, what he calls Christian hedonism?

How about it has to do with what the Bible says?

"Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul" (Hebrews 10:38-39).

What about a "back slider" or one who draws back. What about a man who makes a proffession of faith and then after some time goes back into the world to sin? Is he condemned forever or can he repent and be saved? Or what about James 5?
My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

The phrase "to perdition" is the pivotal phrase. Of course when we turn back and repent we are like the one sheep gone astry and found again, all rejoice, amen.

The answer is in the verses I posted. Paul was writing to eternally saved, born again believes and told them that "we are not of them who draw back unto perdition"

A Christian can backslide, sure, but God will prematurely call him home before he will allow him to go too far.

What about this? What about that? What about the other? Why are you not content with what Scripture reveals about saving faith, and leave the vain speculation to others? Christ's rebuke to Peter when he got too nosy applies to all nosy Christians.

Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? (John 21:21-23)

You thought my response was funny, but I can guarantee that you did not go back to Romans 10 and meditate on that chapter. That's why your funny response.

Actually I did go and read Romans 10 and have many times. My funny response was about the ignor John Piper part. I did actually laugh when I read that bit. Laugh not scoff. I found good humor in it. I also find Christ's rebuke to Peter when he got too nosy applies to all nosy Christians. humorous.
