The one who rejects suppresses the truth in unrighteousness.

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

The word "hold" is the Greek word katechontōn which means to suppress, restrain, hinder.

So it is not that men do not "hear", it is that when they "hear" they suppress it. The word of God is heard with the ears but is rejected. The word of God does not reach the heart (which is where God brings increase).
Why does one reject it and the other obey it? Why does the Word reach the heart of one person but not the heart of the other? What is the determining factor?

The elect are the ones predestined for salvation, and the preaching of the gospel is the means which God uses to bring them to himself. His sheep hear his voice and they follow him, and he gives unto them eternal life and nothing can pluck them out of his hand.
Jesus Christ is God's elect. Was Jesus in need of salvation? There are elect angels who are not in need of salvation. Don't allow a RCC priest to create your theology. Allow God's word to define the word elect. Elect is always pointed to service, never salvation.

To be chosen IS to be elect for salvation, "many called, FEW chosen"
I believe the scriptures teach that the many called are those in John 6:37 - All that the Father giveth me. The few chosen are the same few as stated in the strait gate and narrow way who have been revealed the truths of Jesus's doctrine.( The visible church ). Eze talks of "a wheel within a wheel", which is a figure of the larger outer wheel being the invisible church (all of God's elect) and the inner wheel representing the visible church (the church that he set up and still teaches the doctrine of Jesus)

You should know I am a KJV only believer. The Holy Spirit seals the believer. One must be a believer first before having the seal of the Holy Spirit. The order is: hear the gospel, believe the gospel, sealed with the Holy Spirit. That's the order. The Holy Spirit does NOT indwell the believer before one hears and believes.
You need to understand the KJV has some pluses but it is flawed by 400 years of changes in the English language. Also there are mistranslations of different animals 5 of which do not exist. Here is a list of problems.

For example, because of the changes in the English language, a number of words occur in the King James that make zero sense to most people today. These include the following nuggets that you will find scattered here and there:

Almug
Algum
Charashim
Chode
Cracknels
Gat
Habergeon
Hosen
Kab
Ligure
Neesed
Nusings
Ouches
ring-straked
sycamyne
trow
wimples, ….
The King James translators also translated some animal names into animals that in fact we now have pretty good reason for thinking don’t actually exist:

unicorn (Deut. 33:17)
satyr (Isa 13:21);
dragon (Deut 32:33) (for serpent)
cockatrice (Iswa 11:8),
arrowsnake (Gen 49:11, in the margin).
Moreover,, there are phrases that simply don’t make sense any more to modern readers: Phrases that no longer make sense:

ouches of gold (Exod. 28:11);
collops of fat (Job 15:25);
naughty figs (Jer 24:2);
ien with (Jer. 3:2);
the ground is chapt (Jer 14:4);
brazen wall” (Jer 15:20);
rentest thy face (Jer. 4:30);
urrain of the cattle (Exod. 9:2);
And there are whole sentences that are confusing at best, virtually indecipherable (or humorous)

And Jacob sod pottage (Gen 25:29)
And Mt. Sinai was altogether on a smoke (Exoc. 19:18)
Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing (Ps. 5:6)
I trow not (Luke 17:9)
We do you to wit of the grace of God (2 Cor. 8:1)
Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels (2 Cor. 6:12)
He who letteth will let (2 Thes 2:7)
The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd (Eccles. 12:11)

Other sentences make sense, but would today be considered somewhat problematic – at least for the sacred Scripture. My favorite is the one that refers to a man who: “Pisseth against the wall:…. 1 Sam 25:22, 34, I Kings 14:10!

There you go. There's the problem. The changing of the English language does not make the KJV English false. It makes our English we speak today less correct. Again, like in any other field of study, we shouldn't look to update or change the word, rather we should study more. But the lazy Christian of today does not want to study.

The word at question is the word elect. The KJV will define it for us, and it always points to service never salvation.

I am sorry for you error in discerning scripture. Angels are never the elect . The elect does refer to salvation. I would like to see where in the word it says otherwise. :cool:

But you claim the natural man has to be regenerated before he can "hear" the word of God.

Look at Eph 1:13 again and see the sequence of events:

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

We trusted after we heard the word of truth; then we believed the gospel of salvation; then we were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.

Eph 1:13 does not state that regeneration occurs before hearing.
You and I interpret 1 Cor 2:14 differently. I believe that verse 11 says that man knows the things of man by the spirit of man which is in him and the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. The fact in Eph 1:13 hearing and believing the gospel for the natural man does not harmonize with 1 Cor 2:11. Before a person can hear and believe the spiritual gospel they would have to have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that is given in regeneration. (Eph 2: especially in verse 5.)

The answer is different between the Calvinist and Armenian view. Calvinists will say God didn't touch the person's heart and Armenians will say it was up to each individual.

1 Timothy 5:21 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

Personally my Bible is my smartphone with a browser at biblegateway.com. I select book and chapter then switch translations between several. KJV is flawed because of the 400 years of changes in English. Language is dynamic so I switch between KJV, NIV, ESV, and AMPC. AMPC has the advantage of putting extra meanings of a word in parentheses. Here is John 3:16 AMPC. Notice the extra meanings of believes in. That addition is significant. Not only belief but acting on the belief.

John 3 AMPC
16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life
"Believes" is in the present tense. Most people interpret it as "will believe" which is in future tense. So, it is restricted to "the world of believers". Not to the world of all mankind.

In the case of Jacob and Esau it was pointed to a person.

What an amazing view of languages. That means the Italians should be speaking Latin instead of its descendant Italian. How about England should be talking Celtic. Wales should be talking Welsh.

What a great idea you have??
You must be a comedian!!
Have any more we can laugh at?

FYI
All languages are dynamic and change over time. In 1611 kill meant murder.
KJV
Thou shalt not kill.
NIV
You shall not murder.

God does not change. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, neither does his inspired word change. Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

And the purpose of the statement was to show that his ELECTION shall stand.
Election is always found in a temporal setting. Notice salvation is not the topic of discussion and also note that the "decrees of God" in (verses 12 and 13), happen in time. Verse 12 was said when she conceived ... (verse 10, and 13) is a quote from (Mal. 1:2,3) again in time. No eternal election is found in the passage.

Note carefully the context, (vs. 11, 12, 13) Old Testament. No one in the Old Testament is "in Christ". The subject is mercy and compassion, not salvation. A man cannot force God, by his will or works to have mercy on him. The practical application would be: if you are going to receive mercy, you will receive it on God's terms not your own, you can't will it or work it any other way.

Calvinia is a regional town in the Northern Cape province of South Africa named after the French religious reformer Jean Calvin. The town falls under the Hantam Local Municipality which forms part of the Namakwa District Municipality. The Calvinia district is part of the Great Karoo region of South Africa.

No one in the Old Testament is "in Christ"
And neither is salvation in the Old Testament eternal by any stretch of the imagination. It was temporary and it was sustained by the blood of bulls and goats. It was entirely a works-based salvation. God's grace was found in that He allowed the blood of animals to cover sin then. They were justified, as Abraham was, by faith - but they were kept in covenant relationship through the sacrificial system.
