i don't sing as often as i did back home. at my home church, i was a vocalist for the music team. at my new church, i'm the back up of the back up lol. i mean, i don't need a microphone to sing, but since i'm the violin player, i don't sing as much.

It's funny how we often make posts and think that our words don't really mean anything and won't be remembered, especially out in the vast void of cyberspace... but they do, and they will.
I remember a long time ago when you wrote a post about your love of planes and said that to you, they were "sleeping giants", which I thought was an awesome description.
I'm not in airports very often, but when I am, and walk past the window of planes that are parked and eagerly waiting, I think to myself, "Oh look! It's Zero's Sleeping Giants."

Hmmm.... I like a lot of different things and am a bit of a perfectionist, so the more I am into things the more frustrating they are.
Music is the biggest one, and playing guitar in particular. There is a mix of art and other things in playing. Part of that was not having much access to emotions for most of my life, so I was drawn to musicians that had a mix of technical skill and emotional playing more than the really technical players. But at the same time, I kind of geek out over the theory and things I have learned. I used to sometimes sit and draw out scales, and try to figure out how they were connected from shape to shape and all that sort of thing based on the mode.
I can do things on guitar I dreamed about as a kid, but it is still frustrating to not be as good as I would like. Getting older, I am starting to get arthritis, which makes warming up taking longer and all that, too.
Lately, psychology and trauma are interests due to sorting out my own stuff. It seems like I am always reading a couple of books at a time on the subject, or discussing it in various groups.
Programming/computer stuff if kind of love/hate for me. I enjoy it a lot, but I have to be working no something interesting. I won't code on my own or do other projects for months if I don't have the inspiration. I enjoy the process of problem solving a lot, though. I've always been more an artistically inclined person than a technical person. For the longest time, I wasn't sure if I could hack it as a programmer or have the right mentality to do the work, but I find problem solving is as much creative work as it is technical work. My less technical background sometimes comes in handy since I often see the problem from a different angle than those that approach it from a strictly engineering type background.

My greatest joy is that I have truly been blessed with three amazing kids...
I know that most parents are inclined to say the same sorts of thing about there kids; but when I say that all three of my kids are 'over-achievers' in their particular areas of interest with elite and unique talents - I wish you could fully grasp the breadth and depth of their individual achievements as each perform at the highest level within their respective talent areas...
Conceding that an awful lot of time, energy and resources have been spent to enable each of them the means to excel in these different areas... I do fear, that once they are all out of the house (youngest goes off to college in the Fall) - I will genuinely be on a quest to redefine myself... I am committed to find a hobby or hobbies that will keep me active, busy and engaged - realizing that CC has its perks - I will have to be proactive to push myself away from the laptop to ensure I strive to find the right balance with my activity hobbies...
While surfing the internet and visiting CC is fun, enjoyable and often fulfilling - I don't know if I should count this as a hobby? Although, I do love being an encouraging voice and shoulder of empathy for CC friends in need of a boost, reassurance or a prayer...
I do have an interest in human behavior and analysis... I'm toying with the idea of doing some freelance work and developing a christian based personality-compatibility (value focused thinking) tool...

Great thread! I was waiting for the right time to post for my words to flow...and well, now they area. I love the idea of sharing what we love and why we love doing it. Personally, I love to write. I started writing quite early on and started my own story called “Emma’s Miracles.” (It was about s little girl who had a single mum who were struggling to get by. Back then, I thought it was the best book I can come up with in terms of fiction...and I used to read it a lot to my brother and sisters in which they engaged with such interest. Sadly, I never finished as I lost the document where is saved it when the computer I used crashed and never recovered. The papers I had written on were lost too...I only have a few scraps remaining. Nevertheless, It’s never too late to go back. Hmmm....)
My writing was a bit...let’s just say, childish back then, so looking back at my writing, my face flushes at the pure innocence of the storyline. It’s quite interesting how your writing matures as you grow. Anyway, I had a passion for poetry, reading and everything related to the literature side. I didn’t write as much but started reading like crazy. I read too much where I couldn’t stand putting a novel down when we were going to eat or going to sleep. When bed-time came...I would use the light from my alarm clock to read because I couldn’t use the bedroom lights with my sister sleeping in the same room. Anyway I read like breathing.
That was when I did read this crime novel that gave me an inspiration. Before writing anything down, I had a dream of the certain characters portrayed in the novel but this time displayed in a different perspective. I immediately started writing what I had dreamt. From then on, I was writing and writing...using pen and paper. I’m still working on that novel at the moment. It’s been quite difficult thanks to the gruelling school hours (not to mention exams coming up) So, the book it at hold at the moment. Bu, basically, ideas will flow tremendously...and I knew God had given me a gift. I love expressing everything on paper. I’m also quite descriptive, so I do take some time describing even the smallest details. Anyhow, that’s my story of my passion for creative writing. Hopefully in the future, I’ll dive into being a part-time writer. God willing. It’s never too early
I gotta say also, I enjoyed reading how you used your writing in creative ways. I’ve always wanted to have pen pal. And, writing to someone is something close to my heart as I have had experience in that. You’re very right about actually taking the time to write down your thought and just let everything flow, you know? Something I love doing...

Today I love my new little food processor (it replaced the oster that died a week or so ago). I just shredded about 12 oz of cheese in a minute (including the time it took to open the packages). I think this is the start of a beautiful relationship (though what does it say about me that this relationship is based mostly on the fact that my little processor is fast and easy? and I sure hope he doesn't turn out to be fragile).

Sole--I like the way you gave an honest assessment of how an involvement with something you love might just be more work, rather than a hobby. This is why I never pursued creative outlets as a possible career--it would lose its therapeutic value to me if it became all work.
Gracie--Loved what you shared about writing stories and then reading them to your siblings... I bet they would treasure it if you rewrote some of those old stories and presented them as a gift. When you get your books published some day, please let us know! And, I would happily offer to be your pen pal, but I'm afraid my replies aren't very regular these days. I love my sidearm, its with me nearly everywhere I go. I feel naked and off balance without it.
And no, it does not make me feel like a tough guy. with my weapon, I am far less likely to get
into a fight, or anything like that. It really makes one consider, slow down n think.
Also it is a big responsibility, nothing to take lightly. I carry for my protection
as well as any and all around me, in any given situation.
