3 while Moses went up to God. The LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel:
4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.
5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples,
for all the earth is mine;
6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”
7 So Moses came and called the elders of the people and set before them all these words that the LORD had commanded him.
Exodus 19: (ESV) - OT

9 But you* are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
1Peter 2: (ESV) - NT

*Now we see a new development of the same intent: a holy people given to the righteousness of God distinct from the pervading
wickedness of the world - but this time not limited to a physical nation but the Spirit-filled church gathering in all peoples.
Not under the Law and its myriad duties and obligations but the intent of the Law now written in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.

7 Then I said, “Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me:
8 I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”
9 I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; behold, I have not restrained my lips,
as you know, O LORD.
Psalm 40: (ESV)

Yeah I am in agreement that we are all sinners and it's not beneficial to single out the Jews for the severity of their disobedience but my question is how did God choose to make the Hebrews Holy...
The Word Holy simply means "separate" But over time people have come to view the word as meaning Good or perfect..

God chose Abraham and separated him from his people and from his homeland ( which was in the area of modern day Iraq ) And the descendants remained separated from other peoples because of the laws and guidance God gave them to follow.. Now of course the Jews being humans often fell into joining themselves to the traditions of the pagan people around them so they where not always Holy / Separate from the traditions of the peoples around them.. The Bible records them at times adopting pagan worship and practices time and time again and God sending prophets to guide them away from those things so that they would become Separated / Holy again..

Oh God chose Abraham because He foreknew Abraham would Trust God... Believing and Trusting God is the Way to being separated from the worldly.. We Christians today are separated from the world because we believe and trust in Jesus and his Atonement thus we are deemed Holy / separate.. We need to have the Faith of Abraham to be deemed separate.. While we are in this world we are not of this world..

John 17: KJV
14 "I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. {15} I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. {16} They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. {17} Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."

The Children of Isreal, while they were in the wilderness, were disobedient,

and by their disobedience Salvation (Jesus, Yeshua) was gained by the nations.

Had those few chosen been obedient the nations would have been lost forever, but it was not our Father's plan to lose them. Israel would have remained holy and the nations separate, but , praise be to our Father, we are now able to be grafted in by faith, as Adstar has pointed, the faith of Abraham.

God's plan for Israel is that His people would be obedient to Him. God would then bless the nation of Israel. The blessing on the nation of Israel would then be a beacon of light to the inhabitants of the world and draw people to God.

Genesis 12:

1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

All who believe Jesus Christ asre fellow heirs with Israel. That is by translation they have become praisers of Yahweh (Jews) and rulers with Yahweh, Israel.
