I would like to know the paranoia in what you perceive as Jesus outdated words to us ...HIS DISCIPLES
Paranoia is hardly the correct term to use when I am giving others the freedom to follow their own beliefs.

If you want to follow all of Jesus's commandments in the Gospels even though he made it clear that Gentiles were not the people he was initially sent to, you are most free to do so.

Already said what it was saying. Only Christ can forgive sin. Period.
Thus, you are adopting the "I will just pretend that verse never existed in the Gospel of John". Okay, let's leave it as that.

I didn't say that, don't put words in my mouth please. You are not understanding what is being said. You are twisting the verse to fit your belief.

Okay, why not quote the verse here again and tell me how you interpret that verse into "Only Christ can forgive sins".

I agree with you about the point in "", I just want to know how in the world you can get that truth from that verse alone.

Why would I do it again when I did so a few posts back? You must have read it because you responded. Only one who is sinless can take away sin.

Well the great commission was not given to the church corporate. The great commission was given to individual believers. Christ came to establish not an organization but an organism.

Now the verse in John 20:23 has cause much strife in the church corporate. We should consider what Christ said to Peter in Mat 16:18 and 18:18. The key to the kingdom of God is the word of God. Peter and the disciples as well as believers today are charged with declaring the word of God to every soul. Those that receive the word shall have their sin forgiven and those who reject the word of God shall remain in their sins and be condemned for eternity. John 3:19 speaks to this point.

It is definitely one that has caused the Protestant churches to differ from Catholic Church. I respect that you have tried to explain how to understand that verse properly in the context of other verses. Thanks.

I almost forgot about your reading comprehension abilities that I have mentioned "a few posts back" too. Okay, let's just leave it as that. :)

Why is the Great Commission only one place in the Bible? What about this scripture?

Matt. 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."

So, are we trying to save the world or witness to them?

This particular passage will only take place after the gentile church is raptured to be with their bridegroom, where the 144,000 Jewish evangelists will once again be preaching the gospel of the kingdom on earth.

No, none of that. There is no reason for you to be insulting. I've been nothing but kind to you. There's nothing wrong with my abilities. Roger said the same thing I did. They could say sins were forgiven or not forgiven based on whether the person accepted or rejected Christ, they had no power in themselves to absolve sin. Give me a verse in the NT where the disciples claimed to forgive sin.

Since you are unwilling to let this go, let me try to explain to you further. This will be my last word regarding this.

I am fine if people decline to explain their position on bible verses. What I find irritating is when people claimed to have explain their position on Bible verses but they actually didn't. That is not what I will deem as "being kind".

Your readers can tell whether you have tried to explain or not.

Uh huh, they could say sins were forgiven IF the person accepted Christ, and not forgiven if they rejected Christ. They themselves had no power to take away a persons sin since they themselves were not perfectly sinless.

I'm not unwilling to let it go, I'm just not going to let someone make a false doctrine out of one verse in the Bible and say something it does not say. And be rude about it besides. And that's MY last word regarding this.

And what I find unkind is people coming on here with false doctrines. And when it is pointed out they double down and get nasty. I don't know how long you've been saved but you should know better than this. Only God can forgive sins.

My readers know I'm straight forward and I stick to the Bible. Every other verse in the NT says Christ has the power to forgive and we put our faith in Him. Now, either all these other verses are lies, or you have misunderstood what ONE verse is saying. I think we can be sure the latter is true.

So really Jn 3:16 was in error.

John 3:16 is like one of the first verse we memorized out of Sunday School and I do understand the immense popularity of that verse and I think the message of that verse is indeed wonderful.

But if you adopt a dispensational view of the Bible, John 3:16 is actually part of the Old Covenant. When John 3:16 tells us that we need to believe in Jesus to have eternal life, the next question is believe what about Jesus? You have to understand that verse in the context of John 20:31

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

But according to Paul, in the current Gospel of Grace, you need to believe in the following thing about Jesus, 1 Cor 15:4

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that He was buried, that He was raised on the thirdday according to the Scriptures

Thus when Jesus said those words in John, that DBR have not happened. What were the Jews supposed to believe in Jesus then? That he is the promised Messiah, the Son of God. That is the Gospel of the Kingdom.

But now, under the Gospel of Grace, we don't tell unbelievers to believe in that, we now follow Paul's instructions to teach them that the good news is to believe in the DBR of Jesus.

TLDR version: As wonderful as John 3:16 is, strictly speaking, it is as OT as the rest of the OT. When we read it now, we are reading in the context of what we learn from Paul. But the Jewish listeners during the 4 Gospels viewed it very differently from us.

You know, and i have probably been guilty of tbis too, us Christians insulting each other, being sbript, and curt in our conversations is a terrible example go the world. I am 100% sure that on this site, over the years, we have potentially turned some people off to Christianity that may have been on the fence.
The fact that there is a thread that instructs us to be civil is damning enough.
Last week while typing in Christianchat onto a new tablet i got i accidentally came across a site that was reviewing this site, by people who have been on here. Now i realize that probably some of the reviews were by atheists and Christ haters, but not all of them could have been. I would say about 65% of the comments were negative. It is embarassing.
If for any other reason, that we care about the souls of the lost, we must tone it down here. We are going to be accountable for our words and attitudes.
Whether we want to admit or not, this is public conversation. We are being watched and people are forming opinions about us individually and as a site and a group.

And how about this!! Sorry for the upcoming caps, but God just confirmed go me that this message is something He wants to be on here.

Just as i was about to tap the post reply button, my daughter, who is on her cell phone on Youtube, said dad, listen to what i came across, just browsing around. So went to tell me that a poster, who is Christian, was complaining about HOW CHRISTIANS TREAT EACH OTHER, AND HOW HE "IS TIRED OF OTHER CHRISTIANS".

Thats a confirmation, if you ask me.
