Then I'm guessing you'd like these guys. It's Yo Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer, and Chris Thile with Aoife O'Donovan playing "Between Here and Heaven". It's a song of cold faith. Non-commitment. Not love, not hate and worse than both. It's that place between the wait and the wedding, where it's fall not winter and cool not cold, it's a song about the middle of the road, apathy. A berth where one is not lost enough to find or wrong enough to right. No ecstasy to measure pain; no gain to risk loss...

I screamed at a tree today. Told it I was going to cut it into small little pieces and burn it. One by one. Even the limbs. Even whatever's left. Then I was going to intermingle other wood during the burning so that it would have to anticipate being burned. And I told it I would take its ashes and put in in a rotten food compost pile where it smelled.

Of course, I never did any of those things, but one of its limbs hit me in the back of the head.

My dad would hit me in the back of the head when I was little. When I was stupid, which was anytime he claimed I was stupid. Had an uncle that would hit me in the back of the head if I didn't hand him the right tool or bring him a 9/16's when he wanted a 5/8's. It was a rite of passage, but being slapped in the back of the head by a tree was entirely too much.

I cut grass for certain people as side work. Usually these 5 acre or more lots everybody gets. I have a 40 horse Massey tractor and just cut their place because they don't want to or some are growing for hay. I have one guy I cut for that strictly wants hay. Anyway, one guy has trees all over and they're hard to cut around, but I like to get as close as I can and make it look nice. So, there's a roll bar on the tractor that sits above my head about a foot , so I can go under a limb but the roll bar will catch it sometimes and the limb can swing back and hit me in the back of the head. And I think it's uncalled for. I don't think I"m being unreasonable in saying I'd consider buying a chipper and pulling a Fargo on that tree.

I got a lot done today! Caught up, really. Everybody's happy. I had bought some lamp chops last week, so I cooked one out on the grill and I thought how the smell of the burning fat was pleasing to the Lord. And it did smell good. It really did. And so I cut out the fat and just left it for the Father and I thanked Him for the lamb and I thanked him for the Lamb. And I wondered if the scent reminded Him of days of old for me and the days of young for Him. It was a good day.

This is one of the Catholic hymns I would sing in mass. I'm no longer Catholic...but I missed this song. It's beautiful. :love:
 
So about four years ago I got into a relationship that ended up being super unhealthy, and a large part of the damage that was done was due to my unwillingness to get out. I went into it thinking I was a mature Christian, but through that experienced realized just how immature I was. In my anger and hurt, I developed really poor coping mechanisms, and also hurt people along the way. I was incredibly selfish. I don't know, I know I'm forgiven by God, but just feeling the weight of those past failures and hurts that I caused today.

Just remember that trusting in God also means we trust him to be able to clean up the messes we make. That whole " In all things God works for the good...." applies just as much to the things we do wrong as it does to the wrong things done to us.

I made numerous bad relationship decisions when I was younger. I spent years beating myself up over them. Feeling I'd betrayed myself and God. The guilt was constant.
But, over time, it eased up. It's no longer something I stress about all the time and when I do think about it I'm not strongly impacted anymore.
Sometimes it really does just take time to heal. Even from self inflicted wounds.

There's a couple of sounds you hear that are unmistakable. You might hear a summer cicada bug rattling and think for a second it's a rattlesnake, but when it's really a rattler, there's no mistaking it. Same is true for a flat tire. It's that quick and rhythmic thump thump thump that rolls your stomach south and your mind starts reviewing plans.

That was me last weekend ago and it was my passenger front. I limped into a parking lot and went about changing the tire and it was so hot. The asphalt was like a stove top and heat radiated off the ground and cooked my knees. Add the heat from the engine and it was a thoroughly miserable affair.

I was finishing up when a county police car rolled by. There were two troopers in the car and the passenger asked if I needed help. I told them I was about done. They said they were sorry they didn't see me earlier and held a gatoraid out the window. "Here ya go, man" and I told them I had something in my truck. "Go on take it, you look hot", said the driver. "Thanks, really, but I got plenty to drink". Then the driver says "I ain't asking" and it made me laugh and I got up and took the gatoraid. Then I looked at the other cop and said "Driver's a pest" and he let out a laugh and right then I hear a WOOP WOOP when the driver turned on his siren. They were both laughing.

I don't suppose you're going to see this on "Bad Boys, Whatcha gonna do" TV show, but I think they ought to.

I live in a cop show house. Everyone here watches cop and/or prison shows.
Could be due to our dad being a former cop and and also a former corrections officer at prisons. :unsure:
