The 12 steps of CRA.
(adapted from AA, DRA and Celebrate Recovery)

1.) We recognize and admit the unmanageability of our lives due to problems, which we are powerless over.

2) We came to believe that the Lord could restore our lives and sanity.

3.) We made a commitment to turn our 'self-will' over to God's will with care and guidance of the Lord.

4.) We made a fearless, searching personal inventory of our constructive and self-destructive patterns.

5.) We admitted to the Lord, ourselves, and to a trustworthy adult, the specific nature of our good and fallen natures.

6.) We prepared ourselves to allow the Lord to transform our lives.

7.) We humbly asked the Lord to make the corrections necessary for us to live happy, joyous and free.

8.) We made a list of all people to whom we’ve done wrong to and became willing to make things right.

9.) We made direct amends for our misdeeds and misbehaviors, whenever possible, to those we had wronged or harmed. Unless in so doing so we would cause further harm to them or others.

10.) We continue to take personal inventory and when are wrong, we quickly admit it, while continuing to recognize our progress in C.R.A.

11.) We continually seek through prayer and meditation to increase our conscious connection, with the Lord, asking only for His will to be revealed to us, and for His power to help us carry that through.

12.) Having had a spiritual revival through following these steps, we now carry the Good News to those who also suffer the enigma of multiple disorders, as we practice these principles in all our affairs.

“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,

then all these things will be added unto you."

I'd like to start a new thread for people in recovery who have figured out that the best way to start building a home is on solid ground. The rock.

This is a christian site and I feel identifying Krishna, Mohamed, Buddha, ash trays or group conscience as the higher power is a LIE. The only real higher power is the one and only triune God. Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The only problem is how to filter out the haters, law mongers and deniers'.

In the words of William Booth paraphrased "It takes more than a clean pair of breeches, a bath and a job to save a mans soul."

This is a deadly disease. We have to become deadly serious in dealing with it. Our best thinking got us into the mess we got ourselves into. We need help! Jesus has the power, we surrender to him.

Please join me friends and family welcome too. It's not like Christians don't get ensnared or those of us that become ensnared don't come to Jesus. We need to share, testify and help each other.

My name is Bob. I'm a grateful recovering addict/gambler/sinner. Please help/join me in my and others who are anonymous effort to bring some recovery without condemnation to Christian Chat.

I'm sure there's more to you than addict/gambler/sinner.

There is, but you may have noticed that Bob identified addict/gambler/sinner as aspects he is gratefully recovering from with the help of our Lord :) Have you ever attended any 12 step meetings?

I did pick up on that Magenta, although the OP mentioned he was recovering and not in fact recovered. Which means his opinion and data won't be reliable evidence until he is fully recovered. Since no one can make a analysis on their condition while in transition, that comes after, not before, and not in the middle.

The term recovering has become a constant. The reason is because Having a Drink at an after funeral reception/wake or making a bed on the Super Bowl and/or going into a depression after a significant loss is considered normal. We will never be normal or go back to that kind of normalcy again. It considered a relapse. Recovery is a life long choice. It's like sin, although we may stop sinning we can never go back to what most people do. That's why I slain saved by grace. Being a Christian is a life long journey and constant struggle against human We are always tempted in our flesh and often falter. That dosn't condemn us to hell it reminds us we need Jesus more. So rather than claim I perfectly well and getting full of myself by claiming such. I freely admit I'm still sick. It's like diabetes, a lifelong struggle against my flesh. I will always be an alcoholic. Abstinence is not a cure. It's only the treatment. Give ma a beer, I can prove it! Just joking, sort of. This meeting is open. We are NOT AA feel free to be open and/or disagree or voice a dissenting opinion, as long as you give God the glory... It's all good. Come let us reason together. I'm calibob the OP. Who's next.

"Hi, and welcome. I am 'Bingo' Bob...a grateful recovering alcoholic.
We should be reminded, unless qualified by personal experience of precisely the subject
in question...then in fact one is not qualified to render random opinions with an attitude
of any pertinent knowledge surrounding the complex subject of in recovery, recovering
or recovered, as millions of men and women are precisely on the side of recovering with
profound knowledge and understanding of where we are, not where 'newbies' may think
we are. Anyone stating they are completely recovered from an addiction, are flirting with
an arrogant and dangerous attitude."

I know where you're coming from here, but what I'm stating is that it is very difficult to determine the cause & effect's of this type of disorder while you are still under it's influence. Because the disorder itself can alter your estimates & evaluations when making your determinations on what is occurring.

But there's hope, you can be completely cured, if you learn the correct formula for your type of addiction.

Goodluck to you :)

Just to clarify something about the term DEPRESSION. We are not talking about talking about simply being simply being, 'bummed out' over circumstances that may or not be beyond our control. It's the medical term for clinical problem (as in medical) that effects our attitude and ability to deal with life on life's term. I often leads to isolation and even suicide when it becomes extreme. It's far more than an emotional response to a depressing situation. It becomes an effective disorder and may even require medication sometimes. Mine DID, (past tense) The 12 steps along with Jesus helped my beyond terms I can explain within most peoples attention span. Simply put I have an incurable but treatable disease but I am getting better and you can too. The requirements are Faith, honesty and willingness to cooperate and do the work explained it the 12 steps. It's illegal to copy and publish a copywrited 12 step workbook. but they are available free online in PDF form. There are countless 12 step programs on line to choose from. Were not trying to sell books here. We're just trying to save lives which also means souls, for the glory of God! Call me Cali. please share if you wish.

Thank's but you still don't get it. I'm no longer under the influence but it's like a shadow that follows me everywhere, and will until the Lord takes me home.

To claim otherwise would be arrogant and self righteous on my part. Denial is not an option for me.

Trying to escape was part of the problem. Admitting the truth is part of the solution. Peace out, Cali.

@Riven I want to especially thank you for posting what you did. It brought some things, I've been wrestling with on how to share about in a realistic way, but I didn't know how to start. You're opinions are valid and common among many who haven't dealt with the same or similar problems at the same severity. Or have been trick by the name it and conspiracy, who claim they were healed while they are still ill. Thanks again.

I have 33 semester units of substance abuse psychology plus 10 months working a as treatment professional plus countless hours of volunteer work for the City of Long Beach, Taking it to the streets + service on Hospitals and Intuitions boards as a representative for Dual Recovery Anonymous + thousands of meetings + internships in both fields. Isn't that enough qualification to lead such meetings? What did Bill W. have to start AA with?

"I have learned, I am not obligated and it is not necessary to try and explain to those
that are not in the know, for without the first hand experience, I realize it can't be fully
understood nor examined without personal experience. Comments are always welcome,
as it is interesting to hear from those that make claim of their intellectual knowledge.
So often, many are just immune to real life reality from lives that have personal life
experiences...it has to be lived."...... Neutral.png

As Christians, we know the cause and effects (we live in a fallen, sinful world), and we know the solution is God, and living by spiritual principles. It seems you would disqualify anyone and everyone, including yourself, from having an opinion while in transition, which is counter-productive. How can a person ask for help if they cannot trust their knowledge of self as being in a state requiring help? Likewise, how could anyone at any time determine that they were getting better, when none of us have arrived at a condition of complete knowledge? God understands us absolutely, and the 12 steps help us understand ourselves better than we did without the steps as a tool of investigation. It is an ongoing, one day at a time journey. We are not crippled by lack of knowledge of self simply because we are in transition. We gain perspective, which adds to a sense of well being, especially when founded upon God as the Rock of our lives :)
