Hello. Not sure if this is a good place to ask, but I have a question. If someone has drank a lot in the past, is it better to completely stop drinking or to just cut back drinking and limit oneself, say two beers on a weekend or something similar?

Fair enough. It's usually a better idea to stop completely. Now days that water is safer to drink than centuries ago. Consuming more than a small enough amount to have effect on your metabolism is not a good idea, or necessary. Some times a doctor will prescribe a medication like cough syrup with alcohol in it. I'm not a doctor so I don't know why.

Well selenah, that depends on "drank a lot in the past." Did that too much drink cause problems? Was it hard to cut back or stop? Did your life take a turn for the worse? Lastly, how much do you want those two beers? Answer these and we can better help.

More just hangover/intestinal issues. Like drinking in the evening, and then waking up 8 hrs later and throwing up/dry heaves/ severe headache, sleeping another 4 hrs, and still a headache and stomach ache the rest of the day. Just general intestinal discomfort and tiredness on a regular basis from drinking. Those are the biggest issues. The feeling of being drunk is great, but it really makes me feel not good the next day and cuts back on me doing things I want to such as getting in shape, learning more, getting outside more, and just generally doing all the other things I enjoy. I do very much want the two beers.

Okay, it seems you are already having problems. What is making you so sick is withdrawal. It can get dangerous. You may need to get some help with that withdrawal. May I ask how long this has being going on?

Generally it's been happening for quite a while. Maybe a couple years, it gets worse the more I drink.

I think you fit the form of an alcoholic. I will be frank with you, you will never be satisfied with just a couple of beers. You need to get away from it. It WILL KILL you. If you truly believe in God, you must get off the devil's playground. He comes to destroy you.

Like I said withdrawal is dangerous. Check on recovery programs in your area and get some help with that. Keep us posted because we care.

The word intoxicated comes from two words, ingested toxins, as in, swallowed poison. There's lot's of help available. Since you realize it is making you sick, maybe you should ask yourself "What am I drinking at?" If you continue like you are going the expected out come is illness, both physical and mental because; Besides the fact that alcohol is toxic, it's also psycho active. It messes up our brains. Some more questions to ask yourself is how is your emotional well being? Are you depressed or do you have racing thoughts. Do you hear voices... Yet? Why is drinking so important to you? Are you trying not to remember some thing or things that happened long ago. Do you have health insurance? Have you ever been to a 12 step meeting?

Are you sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? Only YOU can answer those questions. Be honest with yourself and give yourself a break, for just 1 day at a time.

4.) We made a fearless, searching personal inventory of our constructive and self-destructive patterns.

5.) We admitted to the Lord, ourselves, and to a trustworthy adult, the specific nature of our good and fallen natures.

We can't figure out how to change until we figure out who we are and what we have become. What we need to build up and of what we need to repent of and offer them to the Lord and ask him for help! Also admitting them out loud to another trusted, understanding, non-judgmental person helps and is recommended in step 5

Hearing these things out loud as well as doing the inventory activates many more brain cells than keeping our sickness to ourselves, within ourselves. We need to get them out in order to get rid them. This isn't easy, so a sponsor that has been through these things is very highly recommended.

The traditional way of putting pen to paper and using a written guide you can get on PDF online for free from many sources has worked very well for many decades. Just getting them out into the open helps to cleanse our soul. Upon completion of this step we have a solid clean foundation to build upon and it's amazing how much better we feel after some of our skeleton's are removed from the closet and put in the trash where they should have been for so long.

"So now it’s time to allow a Higher Power to cut out these attitudes, beliefs and behaviors at the source. You get to partner up with your Higher Power and make a firm decision to let go of the character defects and flaws that have been ruling your life and seemed to have you hell bent on self destruction.
The sixth step can bring about significant and very noticeable change when it comes to the thought patterns and behavior that have been with us for a long time. It doesn’t happen overnight obviously, and there is nothing like perfection when working the twelve steps of AA. It’s about making a commitment and being content with patient improvement."

6.) We prepared ourselves to allow the Lord to transform our lives.

Once we recognize our liabilities and acknowledge the problems they that they can/have caused. We can clearly see that we are starting to have the desire to change. We can also see that our liabilities are a hinderance to Good Orderly Directions. The things that have been holding us back although well entrenched have actually been hurting us and our loved ones. They are a stumbling block to our recovery. Our coping mechanisms didn't work the ways we intended. We must become willing to set them aside in order to live happy, joyous and free.

The problem is that we have become comfortable with the old ways. We must become willing to step outside of the old comfort zone and learn new ways, that work. Willingness, commitment and faith are the keys along with the honesty that we are already practicing. Practice makes perfect, easy does it, one day at a time.

So a few years ago I set a rule on what games I shouldn't play and it suited me for awhile months ago alot of thoughts bombarded me making me question I suffer from severe OCD and anxiety and it's more likely that instead of my conscious. However today the thought of the games came up again and an awful thought came to mind towards God if I where to give em up. The thought was unwanted and of course I didn't mean it I seldom have control over my thoughts especially when I'm in a perceived mental corner which is consistantly these days. But it crossed the line regardless so I'm going to take a much needed hiatus from all games until I can get to a point where stumbling isn't happening and I can get my increasing mental issues under control. I've went a few months without games before so I should be able to do it again but I could use some prayers if you dont mind.

I never mind praying for or with anyone regarding a true need like help in regards to a problem. It sounds to me like you have a gaming addiction. Your brain is flesh and blood just like your nose and your toes but it has much more practice at getting what it wants than your young spirit so you are at war with your self and will power isn't enough to overcome the self-deceptive part of your mind. I ask the Lord to give you the spiritual help to overcome the sinful nature and disease of the flesh in your mind. Don't start by giving yourself permission to relapse at a future date, your mind will look forward to that date. Rather you should start today, today. 1 day at a time in Jesus precious name.

BTW; I haven't been in a casino in over 11 years. One day at a time. Praise the Lord. My other suggestion would be Gamblers Anonymous because addiction to games is quite similar to gambling. The same parts of the brain are involved. Via con Dios mi Hermano! (Go with God my brother.)
