As a child I attended a ......southern baptist member church ......and baptism was a routine part of the service. I quit that church when I went into the army in 1958.

I have recently been made aware that the Baptist denomination has re-interpreted the Bible to say that baptism is not necessary for salvation, even though scripture says ...very clearly...it is required. In light of research this seems to have occurred since 1960....(?).
Does anyone know of baptist association teachings, publications, writings, etc prior to 1960 which reflected that position.
I can find none.

The baptism that saves is by the Holy Spirit. Two of the four
gospels say Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Baptists have never taught that baptism is necessary for salvation. You must be thinking of the Catholic Church or Church of Christ (denomination).

And, no, that is the correct interpretation of baptism. People are SAVED FIRST then baptized. So the baptism with the Holy Spirit (resulting in the the New Birth) comes first, then Christian baptism by immersion in water.

Water immersion saves no one, nor is it required to be saved eternally....it is the PICTURE of what has already taken place inwardly by faith.....end of story!

Being saved is not the baptism of holy spirit, or are you saying the disciples weren't saved until after Pentecost.

Act 8:14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
Act 8:15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
Act 8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Act 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Act 19:2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
Act 19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Act 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
Act 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Act 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Act 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Act 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Act 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
Act 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

A person can receive the Spirit before baptism, or after baptism.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs only to those who are believers. If you are not a believer in Christ, then you are none of His (Romans 8:9). You can’t even understand the gospel without the Holy Spirit (John 14:17, Romans 8:7) because “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14). This page (<- link) may help explain it a little more in depth for you :)

Scriptures does not agree with you.

Folks are...... repented ......first then baptized. ...it is properly referred to as...born again. We are...saved...when judged by Christ to be such based on the requirements in scriptures.

We are not to try to change G-d's word.

That is an opinion. Please show me factual proof.

Again, my findings so far says it has been a re-interpretation of scriptures since the 1960's.

Prove that wrong.

Any web link you can provide of this "re-interpretation"?

Long term baptist tells me that is their belief. In studying their time frame it is since the 1960's. It is my understanding that the baptist associations have taught this for several years...since 1960's. I want to validate the teaching and when it began.

Wrong...you can't change the clear Bible teaching. It is required.
See Matt., Mark, Acts, John, I Peter, etc.

having attended any church or a Baptist church does mean one is saved. Salvation is a free gift. Baptist position is rooted in the Bible. 1960 is late. Just curious, how old are you?

The disciples where not saved until the day of penticost.. Because thats when the Holy Spirit first caused them to understand the truth of the Gospel message that saves... The Holy Spirit filled them with the knowledge of salvation on that day..

Water baptism has nothing to do with salvation. Any who believe it does are the ones changing Gods Word. Water baptism is about obedience to Christ. He said for us to be water baptized. For many, it is the 1st act of obedience. Water baptism serves a specific purpose:

To serve as a witness to both the world and the Church that a person has become a believer in and follower of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. The "one Baptism" spoke of in Scripture is the baptism of the Holy Spirit thru the applying of the the precious blood of Christ that cleanses us of our sins, and allows us to become worthy to be called sons of God, and worthy to become heirs of the Promise.

"Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sin...."

Why is one being baptized?

To have their sins forgiven, or because their sins WERE forgiven upon repenting and accepting Christ as Lord and Savior? Pretty simple, but so very many get it wrong........... Hmm

Try this:

"Repent and jump for joy for the forgiveness of sin,..."

Is one jumping for joy to have their sins forgiven, or because their sins were forgiven?

Know who taught that water baptism did not save? A well known Southern Baptist Preacher, Teacher and Author:
Adrian Rogers.

(just saying)

so if they unsaved, what were they doing preaching the message, going out healing people. und

cool so unsaved people were sent out by Jesus to go preach the gospel.
Luke 10:1 (KJV)
1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

Matthew 10:5-8 (KJV)
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Amazing what unsaved people can do

Also what about the thief on the cross
Luke 23:42-43 (KJV)
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

When was he Baptised in the holy spirit so he could enter paradise.
