It was cold turkey for me too, but I WAS TOTALLY CONVINCED that GOD wanted me to quit. Therefore I relied on Him to get me through the rough spots. When I knew I had it made was about a year later, when I could smell a dirty ash tray across a large living room.

I gave up cold turkey in March last year after 35 years of cigs and cigars

But as our family holiday approached in August I found my thoughts going towards one of my favourite pastimes whilst on holiday.

I would have my own time about 4 in the afternoon.
Couple of beers and a smoke.

So my thoughts were, ok I can still do that and not have a smoke when my holiday finished.

Knowing that I have an addictive personality and that I would return to smoking small cigars I decided to buy a vape.

I went in at the lowest strength.
Still use it but not all day.

I heat the cold turkey up.
Butter my bread (is butter sinful😎)
Stack it with sage and onion stuffing.
Then wolf it down.
Followed by a beer and a vape.
Butter is good for you (healthy fat)... that's my view and I am sticking with it!! ;)

Lovely view.

I'm on my holiday.
Only checking in cause I'm free.

Actually it's been a lot easier with the family holiday now.

Kids growing up and are happy to do their own thing.

My beautiful wife and I have enjoyed more time together. Walking hand in hand, arm in arm.

Been 20 years before we can now do this.

We are at the seaside as well.
Had a lovely walk around Weymouth and the harbour.

My knees are sore, big toe aching but it's worth it.

This is the first year that we have an add on to our holiday.

Our Katie boyfriend is with us.

It's funny.
Mum and dad still act like teenagers who first met.

"Get a room you two" they say.

It seems us old parents can't hold hands, and walk arm in arm in public.

When I was 23, in my younger and stupider days, I drank an ENTIRE bottle of Southern Comfort, without chasers.. Needless to say, I spent the better portion of the night sitting outside, puking my guts out. Then when I finally felt able to crawl (YES, CRAWL) into the house and up the stairs to my room, I kept saying "please God do NOT let me throw up again". Our bathroom was downstairs but my bedroom was upstairs..

After that, I've never gotten drunk ever again. NOPE NOPE NOPE... after the hell I went through that night, fuhgeddaboudit!!! lol

I have prayed to quit but God didn't answer my prayers because it was not a sincere prayer. There is nothing easy or fast about quitting smoking. A few years ago I quit for 3 months before snapping and resuming my habit. It did not get easier after 3 days, or 3 months for that matter. It will probably not be easy even after 3 years. I am glad that your father was about to kick the habit. That is commendable.
