nah. they are paraphrasing and expanding on the already given laws of the ot. what new is there?

when Jesus says "you have heard it said, hate your enemy" you have heard it said but its not actually in the bible.
For a start Jesus omits over 250 of the Mitzvot laws. I would post a list, but this is my bedtime.

Anyway, in the light of the new, we can forget the old and follow Jesus.

The commandments of Jesus as given in the Sermon on the Mount are different from the Mosaic Law.
Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah
Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:

Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
THIS IS HAPPENING IN PEOPLE TODAY. NOT ALL.

Hebrews 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people

Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
Hebrews 10:15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
Hebrews 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them

Psalm 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
Psalm 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

These are all valid and true today

I'm not a law-keeper, but I still haven't found a single piece of evidence -- in the Gospels -- that Jesus ever told us to stop keeping the Law. Should we rely solely on what Paul said?
Jesus did not write anything. Are you referring to Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John? And if so are they more authoritative than Paul? Are not they all the inspired word of God? Those who suggest Paul is less reliable than Matthew, Mark, Luke or John who quoted Jesus words are not understanding how the inspiration of the text works. They are all equal in authority and do not contradict. If one thinks there is a contradiction they are the one that is in error and it is due to hermeneutical mistakes in interpreting based on contextual, syntactical, lexical, historical, cultural, or theological contextual rules, or maybe even a violation of 10th grade reading comprehension skills which unfortunately are more common than you would think due to our poor educational system today.

I wonder if the Mitzvot laws they assert that Jesus Omitted are the ones generated by the "Traditions of the Fathers"/Talmud. If so the assertion is in a round about way plausible since nothing was to be added or deleted to the Commands/Laws of God. But this omission is by default of the Torah;

Deu 4:2 NIV

(2) Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you.

Deu 12:32 NIV

(32) See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.

And while not referring to the Pentatuch this is the same principal in Revelation;

Rev 22:18 NIV

(18) I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.

Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Hebrews 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
Hebrews 10:20 By a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh
Hebrews 10:21 And having an high priest over the house of God

Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Hebrews 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Hebrews 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

Hebrews 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith He was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Hebrews 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

simple question, Did God create "foods" that were not to be received? or Did God create both clean AND unclean? So could/should that read foods "created clean" with thanksgiving?

Hey W,

Read the article you shared. How can you go wrong in reading/Studying scripture! If you haven't heard of it there is a free Bible software you can download called esword. It is very VERY powerful for deep studies or just reading.

IF by His commands you mean the 10 commandments that were given to the people who rejected His Grace then the answer would be no, not really.

But God doesn't lead us to walk like the carnal who work at those laws either and think they fulfill them by their own understanding and strength.

Such as resting on saturdays. God doesn't lead us to that.

Instead God leads us to Rest in Christ, every day.

So does that nullify the 10 commands He gave at Sinai? No, not really. Only in the minds of those that work at the law and try to fulfill it in their flesh.
Thank you for sharing your view @Grandpa

He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.” And he said to them: “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother: ‘Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban’ (that is, a gift devoted to God), then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother. Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.” Mark 7:6-13

Do you (not refering to you)no longer let us do anything for our Father in heaven as His faithful servants by saying that those who obey the law/commandments of God are cursed, condemned, foolish works salvationist? What then shall the faithful servants of God obey if not the law or His commandments? How can they walk like Jesus did when He walked in Love on this earth? (2 John 1:6,Hebrews 5:7-9))

The law of Moses was given to the Israelites who are under that law. (Malachi 4:4)

...All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) This will take place on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares. Romans 2:1-16
The law is a schoolmaster

It was made to bring us to conviction fo sin. To leave all men with no excuse. To show the means to redemption (blood)

Since it was NOT given to show people HOW to be righteous. It can not be used as a guide, because the only result a person would see when they look to the law is how guilty they are and what they need to do (christ)

Its foolish to take what was given to PROVE guilt and use it as a means to STOP being guilty (be morally righteous or good)

Its like trying to take water and using it to gas your diesel truck. The truck will not work.. Because water was not created for that purpose.
Do you follow or obey your parents? Do you follow or obey the laws of the land (US Laws)?

Why not follow or obey your Father in heaven?

Why not follow or obey God's law and commandments?

Walk in Love (2 John 1:6)

Old Testament law is different from the teaching of Jesus. Being a Christian means following the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ and not the teaching of Moses.

righteousness in the eyes of God doesn't change. the law points to it, but isn't it.

Most christians?

Most christians will tell you the instant their lives began was the day they were Adopted by God, made his child and given every spiritual blessing under heaven, Including the deal of the HS, And could finally rest from trying to be righteous themselves. And could rest on the knowledge that God, who began a good work in them, will complete it until the day of Christ.
"..for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God."

Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.” John 5:17

There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. 1 Corinthians 12:6

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, Colossians 3:23

I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power.
Ephesians 3:7

...and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, Ephesians 1:15-23

So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’” Luke 17:7-10

There is no one in particular that this is written to, but if you find your every waking hour searching for ways and reasons not to remain loyal and subject to the commandments of God then WHY?
why do you think of people this way?

who are these people?

what are righteous people supposed to spend all day thinking about?

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load. Galatians 6:2-5
  • what is each person's load?
    • carry each other's burdens
    • don't deceive yourself thinking you are what you're not
    • test yourself
    • don't compare yourself with others

  • what is each person's load?
    • each other's load
      • without deception
      • tested not against others

  • what is ((my)) burden?
    • ((your)) burden

Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two
(Matthew 5:41)

  • how far is one mile?
    • two miles

If you have a neighbor hurt, say fell down off their porch down the lane from you and from your home, and you hear his cries for help on the Sabbath, which commandment do you break; Love your neighbor as yourself or Keep the Sabbath unto the Lord?
it is lawful to do good on the sabbath.
the written commandment does not produce righteousness -
the Spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing.

when questioned about His disciples picking grain on the sabbath, Jesus replied by citing two examples from the law of breaking the written command yet being innocent: the priests "
desecrate" the sabbath by performing their duties every week, and David and His men unlawfully ate the shewbread. He said, His accusers would not have condemned the innocent if they understood what it means that He desires mercy, not sacrifice. He explained to Peter that the children of the King are exempt, and the price of sanctification demanded by the temple priests was found in a fishes mouth, not only for one man, but for two.

What mission were they on? And, Who sent them?
when David and his men ate what was only lawful for the priests to eat, he told the priests that he was on a mission 'from the king' -- Saul had not sent him. with haste, not having taken his own armament.
he took up the sword of Goliath from behind the ephod, and he went and dwelt among the gentiles, pretending to be insane.

Jesus calls him innocent.

when Samuel approached him after his son died, he told him his sin, his adultery and bloodguilt, was 'removed'

there is neither a sacrifice in the law of Moses for adultery nor one for murder.
the people hated God in their hearts, and went-a-whoring after idols.

when Jesus' disciples picked grain on the sabbath, He told the accusers 'One greater than the temple is here!'

He loved us while we were His enemies

I don't refer to the ten commands as those of Moses. They were given to Moses by the Father so for me they are God's law. Which is why I asked for clarification as to what you meant when you referred to the Law. Thanks for doing that. :)
what do you call His word to Noah, giving him every living creature for food?

Hey W,

I am amazed when I consider verses like the Luke 17:10 verse you put down and then like it;

Ecc 12:13 NIV Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

How through much meditation upon the scriptures we are blessed to reduce ourselves and the commendations our flesh desires for every "accomplishment" as it seeks praise and worship that belongs to God alone. I have weighed this position of NOTHING to equal the "Currency" of the Kingdom of Heaven. His kingdom is the inverted of the kingdoms of this present evil world. Where The kingdom of heaven praises humility, sacrifice, obedience, servitude, the kingdom of this present evil world praises grandeur, pride, accomplishment/attainment, success, being your own person, etc.

The obscure, the forgotten one who fades into nothing finds humble service and duty the highest possible place. The world HATES this attitude, "the humiliation of it all is absurd" they say. "Don't tell me what I have to do" as they shower praise on their "independence" from all authority.

This further recommends the humility of obedience. :)

I do not see an exception to the Apostle Saint Paul's letter to the Galatians. Chapter three verse 28.
can i help you see?

You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
(Galatians 3:26)

For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
(Galatians 3:27)
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
(Galatians 3:28)
