I've probably shared this one before but my favourite bit of foolish words happened in my 20s. I was standing with some of my friends at church, and a fellow I'd never spoken to before, approached us and started with, "You know what the problem with you girls is?" (and let me tell you guys, any woman would be so receptive with that as an opening line, "You use too many big words. Guys don't like girls who go spouting off. Makes 'um uncomfortable." Needless to say, none of us chose to make ourselves more attractive to this fellow. In later years my inside voice thought of different replies like "You mean words like "submissive" or "obedient"?", or "Well sir, if I have to use flash cards to communicate, then I don't think the relationship has much of a future." In truth I know that none of us were loud or prideful. I also know, even if I'd thought of those things then, I would not have said them. The only truth was that none of us were his forever lady. I can live with that. This history major thinks words are a beautiful gift.
