Oba 1:15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.
The day of the Lord is UPON ALL THE HEATHEN, and at that time, Israel gets her reward (punishment) returned upon her own head.

Oba 1:16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.
Just as Israel HAS DRUNK (past) on God's holy mountain (Mount Zion - figurative not the literal mountain), when the day of the Lord comes, the heathen WILL drink continually (forever) and the heathen shall be as though they had not been. They become God's people when before that, they were not a people.

Oba 1:17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
Upon mount Zion there will be deliverance (Christ) and the house of Jacob (saved Jews) will receive their inheritance (Christ).

The timing of the day of the Lord can be found by answering the following questions.

When did the heathen begin to drink on God's holy mountain?
When did the heathen become God's people?
When did deliverance come to Mount Zion?

I think you are seeing a red under every bed K16 :)

"Oba 1:16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been."

The drinking here is judgement/punishment aimed at both Jews and heathen in a "day" of judgement. Notice how the prophet says "and they shall be as though they had not been"

Compare what "drinking" means:

(Jer 49:12 For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink of it.)

(Jer 25:15 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.)

(Jer 25:16 And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.)

(Jer 25:17 Then took I the cup at the LORD'S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me)

Why do you believe drinking from mount Zion is judgement or punishment.

My Zion represents heavenly Jerusalem. I don’t follow how you see that as judgement, it’s a good thing to drink from mount Zion.

I think you are mixing concepts of Zion.

Both were under judgement. The reward for iniquity was on their own heads. Usually with Israel comes judgement and deliverance for the remnant, a mixed blessing and judgment.

But the context is principally with Edom:

(Oba 1:1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.)

First, the message is written to Edom, not Israel, so the "you" in the passage is the descendants of Esau, not of Jacob. Edom (not Israel) will receive back from the Lord punishment for her wrongdoings, particularly against Israel.

Second, there is no specific reference to "the day of the Lord" in this book... anywhere. Verse 8 says, "on that day"... meaning the day in which God visits wrath upon Edom.

The text does not say that the heathen began to drink on God's holy mountain. Rather, it compares Edom drinking wrath on God's holy mountain with the heathen drinking wrath... without reference to any location.

The text does not say that the heathen become God's holy people. Rather, it says that they shall be as though they had not been. Their latter state is contrasted with their former state. They will become as though they had never existed.

The deliverance mentioned in verse 17 is deliverance for Jacob (Israel) out from under the heel of Edom. That's consistent with verses 10 - 14.

The "as ye have drunk' is somewhat obscure (darn clouds) as to whether the Edomites are spoken of or apostate Israelites that were banished.

I think we can say the kingdoms of this world are under the god of this world. In the new Zion they will becomes his kingdoms of denominations the un seen source of faith.(Holy place) Therefore, they crucify men (what the eyes see)over and over hoping they get the right one. Satan the murderer from the beginning

. Just as in Hebrews 6 they tasted but never knew Christ ,no belief in a God not seen

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Hebrews 6:4-6

Oba 1:17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

The better thing that accompanies salvation

But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. Hebrews 6:9-10

I would think of course he uses heathen.mankind must be born again.

The Scriptures define the words used ..One of the difficulties. . Which Israel? A outward Jew according to the flesh, or an inward not seen according to the spirit Born again Israel. . or presented by Jacob.

Jacob’s deliverance born again the word change. . . Israel. As in marvel not a person must be born again.

Excellent use of a parable in name changes giving glory to God not the flesh of men

Israel . . . . One who wrestles with the things seen, flesh and blood with the power of God not seen working in him to overcome the evil of violating the laws of God

Genesis 32:28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

No offence to any one but none of the comments are remotely close to what this passage is saying.

AZ thinks drinking from Mount Zion is wrath.
I’m not sure what Garee said lol.
Dino doesn’t think the heathen drink from Mount Zion.

So my question to all of you is who is the underlined talking about, Israel or the heathen.

Oba 1:15 (KJV) For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.

Dino Edom is figurative speech the Bible uses to reference the wicked of Israel.

No offence taken K16, as I said you are confusing the concepts of Mt. Zion. You have not established your premise at all.

Verse 15 is upon the "nations" for sure, although it seems it may be the Edomite clans.

I don't see other than making the statement that Edom is a reference to the wicked of Israel has not been established.

(Oba 1:9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.)

Teman was part of Idumea/Edom and related to one of the Edomite clans.

(Isa 34:6 The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.)

The answer to the question I asked is found here.

Oba 1:16 (KJV) For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.

“For as ye“ the ye is who the last part of the previous verse was talking about... it’s Israel

When did the heathen become God's people?
When did deliverance come to Mount Zion?
Since prophecies pertaining to the Day of the LORD are all future, none of your questions has any current application.

Today is the Day of Grace, when the Gospel must be preached in all the world. Why don't you stay focused on that?

When the Lord quoted from Isaiah He stopped short of mentioning "the day of vengeance of our God" (another term for the Day of the LORD). And the reason for that is that the Day of Grace began the day Christ was born and will continue until the Resurrection/Rapture. All the heathen are invited to come to Christ and be saved., because now is the the Day of Salvation.

That's why I brought up the remnant and the disobedient of Israel. But the prophet may be speaking of a judgement already passed.

No, this is not the case at all.
Are you suggesting that the Day of the LORD has already gone into effect? Do you even know the significance of the Day of the LORD, since your response shows that you do not?

On the contrary your bold statement indicates you don't understand the significance of the days of the Lord. But then I'm dealing with a dispensationalist.

Verse 10 clearly shows that God is speaking to a nation other than Israel:

"Because of violence to your brother Jacob, you will be covered in shame,"

"Edom" means the descendants of Esau, the brother of Jacob. "Edom" cannot possibly be figurative speech for Israel, when the charge is violence done to Israel. That would be ridiculous.

It's unfortunate that you say metaphors are lies, and then argue here that "Esau" is a metaphor (figurative speech) for "Israel".

Verse 15 is talking about Edom. It's really that simple.

I very seriously doubt that you have read Obadiah from the KJV because if you had, you would not make that statement. According to Obadiah and every other prophet there ever has been, the day of the Lord happens when Edom, Esau, the drunkards of Eaphriam or whichever name God chooses to call the unsaved, God hating, Christ killing Jews...

They say that the day of the Lord happens when Edom gets recompensed on his head and THE GENTILES DRINK FROM GODS HOLY MOUNTAIN.

For those who don't know what that means, it is EXACTLY THE SAME AS saying those that are saved by grace through faith.

THAT OPTION WASN'T AVAILABLE TO THE GENTILES UNTIL CHRIST CAME THE FIRST TIME.

I'm not yelling by the way lol.... I'm just pacing major emphasis on those words.

I encourage everyone participating to take their time and read Obadiah very carefully from the KJV ONLY, I checked some of the other translations and they have it totally screwed up and you will never arrive at the truth in Obadiah reading those bibles.

For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen - read carefully, the wrath is not poured out on the heathen, it's poured out on the Jews.
