thats a good verse. i dont know anyone even the best christian i know who keeps Jesus' word 100%. do you?
thats a big problem because then according to that verse nobody is saved. do you want to try another interpretation?
Yes I love that verse. Well either that verse is true or Jesus is a liar. If Jesus is a liar there is no salvation in Jesus.
Jesus is not a liar. a few support verses then I will expand;
1 John 2:6, "He who says he abides in Him, is himself also obligated to walk as He walked."
1 John 3:24, “And the one guarding His commands stays in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He stays in us, by the Spirit which He gave us.”
Acts 3:22-23, " 22 Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. 23 And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’
I don't think Jesus expects 100% perfection in the flesh. He Himself preached forgiveness to others:
Luke 17:3-4, “Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day comes back to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.”
Key point: he says: ‘I repent,’ THEN = "you shall forgive him.”
I think the same with us.
Ezekiel 18:21-23, " 21 “But if a wicked person turns away from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 22 None of the transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done he shall live. 23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?"
I think it a life long process, where we will sin, that is why He did what He did:
Hebrews 10:12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God"
that is why John says:
1 John 1:8-10, "
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us
our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us."
1 John 2:1-6, " 1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so
that you may not sin. But
if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 3
And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked."
Not perfect but repentant of sin and becoming more and more like HIm. WHere is the exact line, I dont know and it is not for me to decide, He is the judge.
John 12:48, "He who rejects Me, and does not follow
My words has One Who judges him.
The word that I have spoken, the same will be used to judge him in the last day."
