Love the title of the thread, no buts about it 😂
I like big BOOKS and I cannot lie lol.

The word BUT can be turned into a positive by using nevertheless or however.

Although phoebe the crazy lady of Friends Tv show would say 'I would like to, but I won't'

I'm like ok. Full marks for being honest, zero marks for making any sense. Well she did have asplit personality, with her evil twin sister Ursula.. That was really herself. The magic of fake tv.

Hey Everyone,

Most of us remember that the thread title is a song lyric -- so if we put a practical twist to the words, how often do we find that this applies to our own lives?

A while back, I was talking to a friend and started to say something like this: "I think things went well..." to which he dryly interjected, "Except that I'm sensing a big 'BUT' is about to be dropped." Eventually, he went on to point out that a good number of my stories start out the exact same way, only to have a big BUT plopped down immediately after the first sentence.

How many of us do this all the time?

* "I really like so-and-so, BUT."

* "I want to find another job, BUT."

* "I want to lose weight, BUT."

* "I want to get out there and find someone, BUT."

* "I want to go back to school and better myself, BUT."

To be honest, I didn't even realize how many times I say "BUT" after making a statement, and it's really had me thinking about what kinds of excuses and/or negativity I've allowed into my daily thinking, and what I need to do about it.

BUT.

I really wanted to work out this morning in order to clear my head first, BUT, here I am, writing out a thread idea on CC. :) How about the rest of you?

* What are some of the biggest BUT's in your life, and how did they get there?

* Why do you hang on to your BUT's? Do they protect you from things you'd rather not face? Do the goals you want to achieve seem too far out of reach? What would put them more within reach?

* What steps are you taking to get rid of some of the biggest BUT's in your life, or at least, shrink the down a little?

I'm really hoping to get rid of a few BUT's in my own life... What about you?

I try to avoid doing that as i am extremely decisive and relentless. It wasn't always that way though, in the beginning i used to make a lot excuses because i didn't really get into being honest with myself and practicing self talk. Also now my inner conversation is different, i don't like speaking words of want or lack. I focus on what i will have or what i will do until i am self convinced.

An example of what this might look like:
I like so and so, so i will get those digits *watch me* - goes and does it.
or
I will get another/better job when the opportunity presents itself *watch me* - looks and waits for opportunity and takes it.

There are no "buts" or "want" i just believe that i will, and God will establish/set it up for me to have, and i will just take it. (Job 22:28)
I have been practicing this mindset and relationship for years and it has never failed me.

Being self convinced and fully resolved is something that takes effort though and doesn't always come easy, sometimes i have to have no other option, or i have to be so narrow minded about something that i deny options outside of what i set out to do.
To me the word "but" after a desire simply means that i have an option/ excuse. Im not perfect at it yet, but i am getting better.

Sir Mixalot the guy who wrote that song, is actually a family friend, He and my dad both were cb-radio friends.
A lot of his fans probably don't know this but he actually made songs about cb radio under his handle of Prime minister.
