If the shops just want to give away all their expired lollies to children that dress up they are welcome to. i dont see why children need to go to other peoples houses when they can just go to the malls that sell the lollies. Be smart and get it direct.

They are very different. Costumes are worn for many events, holidays and celebrations.

My favourite time of the year is Autumn, so naturally I would be drawn to something like this. In a sense, I do find it more evocative spiritually speaking. I never used to think about it when I was younger, but the veil between realms is said to be thinnest at this time of the year, especially on All Hallows Eve. My sister felt the same. I don't appreciate the actual holiday, but there are certain aesthetic qualities that I like; the colours and certain animals etc which are used. Aside from that, it's actually very sad what activities ensue during the season.

Autumn is a lovely time of year in temperate zones...thats when the harvest is in and the leaf colours are most spectacular.

As for veils I do believe that moon cycles and sun cycles affect the amount of light we receive so there is a probably a real time when dark supernatural activity is high. I used to be quite affected by the moon (my name does mean moon, so go figure) and there are people who get diagnosed with SAD...seasonal affective disorder. The cure is ...sunlight or massive dosses of vitamin D.

After all halloween the children go trick or treating in the night time they dont really do it during the day. But that doesnt work out quite the same in the southern hemisphere where its spring and we are celebrating with flowers.

I do believe some people assume the earth is flat judging by their posts and that the usa is the centre of the universe and that everyone else on the planet is just the enemy. It kinda disturbs me. But then...in China, everyone who isnt chinese and looks white get called ghosts lol.

Thank goodness theres internet and that now people can chat with others who actually dont live in the same part of the world they do. And learn more about what happens on the other ends of the earth...peoples different customs and traditions.

Apparently for every day of the week there is a saint for that day. Some are more popular than others. Eg st valentines, saint patrick, saint David. If you do follow the christian liturgical calendar, there are all sorts of days that you could celebrate. Pancake day, white sunday, bible day. Epiphany, pentecost, all saints day...to name but a few. Martin luther King Junior day is a recent one. Its really up to you how you celebrate and if you choose not to thats ok too.

Indian people are celebrating diwali at the moment.

I used to like halloween before when it was cute and fun and all the kids would show up in their costumes. Some of them were really good and the little ones were always so adorable. But now they all go to the malls. No one at all showed up the last 2 years and before that, there were only 2 or 3 who showed up at the door. I understand the allure and safety of trick or treating in the mall, but now it's just one more thing that is gone from the past. Also not a fan of the really gorey realistic makeup that some folks do. So I voted 'dislike'.

I like handing out candy to the kids and seeing all the families that have gathered together to escort with kids through the neighborhood... I like asking the kids about their choice of costumes and yes - I enjoy dressing up to hand out candy...
When the kids were younger, I used to enjoy decorating the house and the garage with a few eye catching displays that made it fun for the participants...
I really like when I tend to buy too much candy - and I have left overs for the week...

I wish... I wish... I wish somebody would make big pans of fudge, cut them into little squares, wrap them in cling wrap and give THAT to kids on halloween. That would be much better than the prefab candy they market for the season, and kids would see what REAL candy is like.

I wish somebody else would do it because I don't live in an area that gets trick-or-treaters. Like, none at all. If I lived in town I would do it myself.

I like candy but I don't really like Halloween. I just try to think of God and his perspective on it. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't celebrate it himself.
But I don't judge anyone who does like it. I just don't feel comfortable with it myself. I believe evil spirits exist and I don't like to open any doors to that kind of stuff.
I don't know how people do it to watch scary movies like Annabell and It. YIKES!!!

I like Halloween because by that time of year bugs have died by the truck load and the grass is not growing for me to be mowing.

I hate Halloween because the only available candy is junk. You can't even find good chocolate in October. You have to wait for the Christmas displays.

I give out caramel apples... kids seem to dig them.. LOL

Call me a heathen if you must but I've always liked it. I dont celebrate halloween, but seeing kids all excited and dressed up is fun and candy is good any time of the year.

Ar schools the kids are clamouring for challoween a combination of both. Theres going to be a scary disco.

Am not sure what Im going to do. I dont want them coming round to my house and scaring me. Should I scare them back. Also I dont want santa coming round either. I had been reading the 3 little pigs story and I think santa is kinda like the big bad wolf. Grooming the pig to be eaten but the third pig was clever and boiled him up when he came down the chimney.

Tell the kids this story when they come to visit. this will scare them forever!!! LOL!!!

This is quite old now Cbn brings up two perspectives on Halloween people who celebrate and people who dont basically decide for yourself...still as someone with scruples I will feel wrong and conflicted in either one I choose

Unfortunately anything homemade gets thrown out for fear of poisoning etc. Unless we knew that neighbor we were told not to trust it. Mom wasn't too worried about the inevitable toothbrush lol

I enjoy it. When I was a child I trick or treated with family, ran around in costumes in my youth, and now still dress up but for kids fall festivals.

I like the innocent and childlike aspects. The scary things like haunted houses and horror movies, whatever else dark stuff goes on, no. Nor do I like the Day if the Dead.
