I dont know what to call this thread. I didnt want to say HOARDERS lest it attract undesirable attention, but lets be honest there are some people we know who are terrible hoarders and you cant do a thing about it. They are drowning hopelessly in their junk piles just moving stuff around, never chucking anything away and thats what they will do for the rest of their lives.

This disturbs me because it means I cant go visit these people without accidentally touching their stuff, of I can even get in the door, because their home is chock full of junk. They might try to hide it but the tell tale signs are there...

They give you their unwanted things and think they are being generous, but its actually more stuff to dump on you.
They keep buying new stuff cos they cant find what they already have under their piles of stuff.
You dont even know what this stuff is. Its just...STUFF. And its nothing they use. They just buy it, and stuff it in their home. Its like a giant stuffed toy house. If its empty, they will fill it.
They cant even open their home as a museum tourist attraction, because its not in any order, its just full of...stuff. And nobody can live there except for them and their stuff. There are homeless people who could use a home, but they cant even get in these houses, cos its full of stuff.
The garage doesnt have room for any car cos its full of stuff. The second shower cant be used as a shower cos its full of stuff. The spare room is full of stuff. Help!

What can you do, wait till their home is condemned as everything goes up in flames because of the fire hazard?

Ecclesiastes 3:5-7 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to throw away;
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

Well, it is spring time here. Which traditionally is the time you clear away the old to bring in the new. But some people actually dont bother to do this. Nature renews itself, but for some strnage reason some people choose to stay with all their old stuff till their home looks like something out of a halloween movie.

No. Talk to the politicians in Seattle, WA and Los Angeles, CA and just ask them to to open all the boarded up houses, that are by the 100,00's (heck here where I live in Ohio it was in the paper there are 100,00 boarded up homes in a 3 mile radius because of violence, prostitution, and drugs) and make rent low enough for SSI or Social Security to cover.... PRESTO.... 100,00"s have homes!!!

Go after the Dems in these states instead of individuals.... Where a difference could be made... just a thought!

lol... Are you from the U.S.A.?

They are boarded because people do not live in them and they do not want the homeless in them... it is illegal... (safety). The government, especially CA has millions in excess. And every state pays a lot in tax to help the homeless. Some states the rich ones like WA, CA, has the means if they, the Dem ran state wanted to really....

Hmm not sure if anybody really wants to live in a former drug den, brothel, or broken home. As renovating it might cost more than actually building a new home....

No, am not from the usa.
Why dont people live in those homes is my question, did they just move out and not bother selling them or renting them out. Or did they get too bad to maintain.

No, what about you...? Where did you live...? Most people who dont have homes just live under bridges or they might be squatting in their cars. I would live in my car if I didnt have a home. I would stay away from living in brothel or drug den. You better off askign for help at church than those places! Or staying with friends.

Fair enough! Usually the bank or government forecloses on the house because people cannot make the mortgage payment, or if they own it the property tax.

Did this happen with the GFC what they called subprime mortgages where they offered bank loans to anybody even if they couldnt pay them. That was terrible. So isnt it the bank that owns the house now?
I think if it was the govt they would take responsibilty, but if its the bank they can just do what they like with it, bust it down and build more banks I suppose.

If those people had to foreclose on their home and abandon it cos they couldnt afford to pay it ...then where did these people move to?

Or was it just an extra house for them. I dont quite understand.
